I thought this game was stupid first, but once I got over the steep learning curve, it's actually pretty fun, and somewhat addicting. See, games don't need the CryTech engine to be fun, right? Anyway, in my fortress, I've made barracks, and I am wondering if you can make a food court. Is it possible? EDIT: Is there a way to make walls, other than digging them?
To build walls press [b] => [C] => [w] (case sensitive) then select size and material to make it out of.

I would wish there was a "peasant" mode, where you could be a dwarf or Elf or Human, doing the dirty work and stuff. Like a extended adventure mode..

Correction, DF will never get better graphics because that's just how it is made.

Actually I am thinking of basing something with fully 3d engine on dwarf fortress. I don't say Dwarf Fortress should change. In as an whole it's already perfect, but I would like to build something a bit different. Something like Wurm meets Dwarf Fortress. However, I have only very rough concept, and while I don't certainly have skills to do this at the moment, I already can see how I could get it working (In other words, I don't know programming/modeling enough to start making it, but I already know enough to see how I could do it)
I was wondering why there was a corpse on my statue garden. Then I realised. My Garden is under a nice natural waterfall, for the mist. Now, the platform is very near it so there is sometimes a splash of level 1 water on the floor there. I noticed this corpse just now. Turns out a fish went over the waterfall and went SPLAT onto the platform. It splattered everywhere.
You guys are way too aggressive towards tileset users. It's just a preference. You don't gain or lose anything by using one besides what you perceive in your head. On an unrelated note... (or related if you still want to bitch about tilesets) Which direction do y'all think I should build the castle in? My last location was overrun by goblins and I locked them in. I tried to build another vault like from fallout, 4 layers of flood gates at front and near a volcano, poor dwarfs, so painfully killed by falling into the water storage when the waterfall somehow flooded the residentil sector, lucky for them it also flooded the lower level too. so all that was left was 3 dwarfs and a medium food storage on the top floor, lucky for them I sealed off the other floors with flood gates I placed incase I needed to seal other levels. They ran out of food, being about to open the vault I then saw the volcano errupting and they were left for a while with no food and little booze. They made it out but then died because they couldn't produce any food because the seeds where on the third level and the farmer was on the second level, and the volcano killed all plants near the area.

Anyone have a good map site laying around? Preferably one with Lava Pipe, pits, underground water, HFS, ect., with a smaller sized embark square (3x3-5x5)? Been genning for while, but can't find a suitable site. I want to play with some new mods I put in, but need at least a good site for metalworking.

Maybe I should have built a wall around my waterfall garden. My melancholy dwarf just threw himself off because I couldn't get him some bloody metal bars. Still, I was getting tired of him emo'ing up the place. [editline]01:04PM[/editline] I just noticed that ever since I killed those traders by flooding them, there's been their Muskox right next to my waterfall (It escaped through the pipes). It's constantly struggling against the tide and so has been at a total equilibrium, the water pushing it back as fast as it moves forwards. It just gave birth to two Muskox calves, too.

I like the idea of building a fallout vault, would require a ton of mechanisms. I decided to do this, I'm going to have a 4x4 floodgate entrance. I'm also going to design an underground refuse, then my dwarfs will live underground for ever!

The can do all the jobs dwaves do and they have a crossbow instead of a flame thrower. they may even be a possible counter to the carp.

Wow, fucking fish. First my fisher gets killed by a sturgeon, then of course all my dwarves rush to grab that precious pig tail cloth sock. Then my planter goes beserk upon seeing their dead husband lying next to the pool, jumps into the water, and... drowns. Then all the other dwarves go "Free shoes!", and before I know it my carpenter jumps into the water and the rest... is history. That is, my dwarves are history. I got a whole elven caravan to be eaten by carp, hehe free stuff for me. Oh and I made a new fort, the wagon had 5 cheese in it, a racoon tried to steal it, my swords dwarf made quick work of the little bugger, we got racoon feet, head,arms,torso and lots of blood.
