It seems that either my DF fucked up or I forgot how can I put the goddamn animals in the cages. The wiki is cryptic as fuck on this precise issue, can anyone give me a hand?
Q on cage > a > enter on animal you want to have put in the cage.
game of the year
what the hell i designated trees to cut and this dwarf randomly jumps down a pit :geno:
A goblin ambush came and triggered my bridges, at the same time my wrestlers were moving out to meet them. End result: 7 dead goblins and a dead legendary wrestler at the bottom of a pit.
I'm confused as to how to make a farm There is no muddy floor and I'm not sure how to make an irrigation system or w/e
Can someone help? Whenever i'm in fullscreen and try and use printscreen to take a picture of, say, a description of an artifact, I just get a black screen pasted into paint. What can I do to get pictures of things other than my fort?
If you have some type of soil layer you don't need irragation
Q on cage > a > enter on animal you want to have put in the cage.
Then my game is fucked. I do that but instead of analyzing the cage it analyzes the goddamn stockpile. EDIT: Impending catsplosion. Might as well ditch this goddamn fortress and start anew. Back when I started the only thing that worked for me is to keep abandoning the fortress until I found a farmable mountain.
well shit i dont feel like starting over again [editline]09:50PM[/editline] I made a farm plot on peat and it seemed to work [editline]09:52PM[/editline] I'm reading up on it and it doesn't seem complicated
Then my game is fucked.
EDIT: Impending catsplosion. Might as well ditch this goddamn fortress and start anew.
Do what I do, butcher them for meat and leather.
So no idea on the fullscreen printscreen picture thing?http://www.facepunch.com/#
well this time the game is actually getting my interest
well shit i dont feel like starting over again [editline]09:50PM[/editline] I made a farm plot on peat and it seemed to work
It's pretty simple in words, but it can be hard execute. You basically need soil or muddy rock to have farm plots on. Usually, if you're on a sedimentary map, one Z-Layer below the surface will have mostly soil, which is suitable for farming. However, if you want to dig down deeper or if you're digging into say, a mountain, then you will have to get the stones that you want to plant on wet. The way you do this is by setting up an irrigation system. You do this by first digging out your farm area. Once you have that dug out, you will need to channel a river/stream/brook/etc. into your farm area. First, dig a tunnel from your farm area to the water source, but don't actually dig into the water source. Leave one tile between the tunnel and the water source. Then, go up one Z-Level and channel the unmined tile. Before you do this, however, you have to make sure that you have floodgates installed, otherwise you'll flood your fortress. You can have one flood gate at the river source, but it's recommended that you make a reservoir. If you don't know what a reservoir is, it's basically a room filled with water, which can be used for irrigation purposes. It should be pretty close to your farm area, but it doesn't have to be right next to it. So here's how the floodgate setup should be: ~ ~-X-----------X[1]X-----X[2] ~ ~ = Water Source X = Floodgate - = Tunnel [1] = Reservoir [2] = Farm plot Also, this is very important. Make sure that you have an entrance door to your farm area and make sure it's closed when you start to irrigate your farms, otherwise you'll flood your fortress. Hopefully this cleared up some confusion [editline]01:03AM[/editline] Also, download Land Carp That goes to all of you.

making deep carp the gods of land carp
So no idea on the fullscreen printscreen picture thing?http://www.facepunch.com/#
No to sure, I'd assume it's like when you try to take a print screen of a video and you can't. Fraps works.
A helpful tutorial to Dwarf Fortress follows: http://afteractionreporter.com/2009/02/09/the-complete-and-utter-newby-tutorial-for-dwarf-fortress-part-1-wtf/ Helped me to no end.
Well i lost my fort because some gay error that cannot be fixed(it happend before)so im :crying::bang:
Tell me the exact error and what operating system you're using.
Yesterday a goblin raiding party decided to have a go at my fortress. Set it so only the military can leave the fortress, oreineted my catapult and set it to fire. The first lot of enemies died (A couple of them at the hands of a disgrunteled miner who was drinking at the time) so panic suppoedly over i restored the going outside permission. Not noticing the second party that had come in from thw other side of the map. it kinda transpired like this "Oh so we can;t go outside now 'eh? well lemmie just get a drink out the river and ill get back in my room. Ooh look, goblins, and they appear to be shooting at us. i might deal with that once i've had a drink." we lost 15 dwaves thanks to that and four more threw tantrums. the military are efective though, they laid waste to the rading parties in mere seconds. They simply toughed them and green limbs flew everywhere. I used my right as a dwavern god to trun time back the the previous save thus undoing this terrible tragedy.
So no idea on the fullscreen printscreen picture thing?http://www.facepunch.com/#
Use the ingame tool instead. Press Esc, then "Export Local Image" and go from there. Make sure you use the "Compress Bitmaps" exe file in your DF folder.
Ahahahaha oh wow. My miner dug a channel under the human guild representative and now he's stuck. I'm gonna do this like the romans. Thumb up (Let him out)? Thumb down (Leave him there)?
*thumbs down*
DmGod, if you're editing memory, it fucks up saves. Don't cheat, or use stuff like Reveal or whatever. Saves get corrupted. I used to always do that, and the furthest i'd get in a Fort is to about year 2, then i'd close it, or restart the laptop, and the save would be messed up.
the only real editing/cheats i used was none maybe dwarf manager and Just dig it out but thoes were tools
Ahahahaha oh wow. My miner dug a channel under the human guild representative and now he's stuck. I'm gonna do this like the romans. Thumb up (Let him out)? Thumbs up meant "Yes kill him" Thumbs down meant "No, don't kill him" :flashfact:
Do what I do, butcher them for meat and leather.
Doesn't that require editing the raws?
QI Nitpick In the Roman times if a gladiator pinned another gladiator he looked to the emperor. Thumbs up meant "Yes kill him" Thumbs down meant "No, don't kill him" :flashfact:
That crossed my mind as I made the post but I decided not everyone on Facepunch watches QI. I knew someone would bring it up, though.
Ok I'd say I'm nearly ready to start a succession thread, before I do need to know 2 things. 1. What site people want to play on, if anyone wants to find a good location, then send me the map with the location like this: That'd be nice. 2. How can you check what time of the year it is. I assume we'll do 1 year each, need to know how to check that.
:flashfact: [editline]07:58AM[/editline] I believe the game autosaves at each season change. All you'd need to do is upload the most recent save after the season switched back to spring or whatever you choose.
Actually you need to watch QI. It was just a misconception that came from a film (as ususal). Up did mean "You may proceed to kill him" Down meant "No you may not proceed to kill him." But ill forgive you as it's a common misconception. I'm sooo making a stupid tower
I'll be the one actually trying to succeed then, shall I? [editline]02:17PM[/editline] Goddamn people need to clean my butchery more. It keeps stinking up the place. [editline]02:20PM[/editline] I think I'll put all my rotting remains into my pit trap, that way anything that falls in will have some nice clean miasma air to breathe. [editline]03:34PM[/editline] How do you get rid of pets? This one fucker has adopted all the cats in the fortress and it's pissing me off. [editline]03:47PM[/editline] Why do doors and floodgates come under "Refuse"?
