Ok I'd say I'm nearly ready to start a succession thread, before I do need to know 2 things. 1. What site people want to play on, if anyone wants to find a good location, then send me the map with the location like this: That'd be nice.
The ideal site (in my opinion) will have almost all features and sand in an are that is not too large.
2. How can you check what time of the year it is. I assume we'll do 1 year each, need to know how to check that.
If you set the auto save function to yearly/seasonal in the init file the game will save at the start of each year if you enable pause on save as well you won't over run. You can see the current date and season in the upper right of the status screen (z). You also receive the message 'Spring has Arrived' at the start of the year.

Sign me up to the sucession game.
Use the ingame tool instead. Press Esc, then "Export Local Image" and go from there. Make sure you use the "Compress Bitmaps" exe file in your DF folder.
That only gets you fort pictures, i'm talking about pictures of things like item descriptions which can't be done with that tool.
That only gets you fort pictures, i'm talking about pictures of things like item descriptions which can't be done with that tool.
Ah, then no, it works for me I'm afraid.
My first Goblin Child Snatcher came, I turned all my dwarves into soldiers (like 35 or so). And they just zerged the goblin, before the goblin died, it enraged. Dwarves: Oh look, a goblin! ATTACK!!! Goblin: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- And then I looted the corpse :v:
Sign me up for the sucession game as well. We can work one year each, and pass the save once the game hits the "Spring has arrived" message. If you want a pregenerated world, I found this one called Zaludoram which hasn't let me down yet.
Im up for it http://dwarf.lendemaindeveille.com/index.php/Pregenerated_Worlds#Smata_Sagus.2C_The_Realms_Of_Dawn but i find this better or even better find a hellhole do start a fort in
Haunted volcanic glacier should prove fun. [editline]11:00PM[/editline] also that dawn of whatever is 33g
I've been dieing to play a succession game. I need to get in there. :black101:
I will give it a shot this time...though I just played a round with Dig Deeper..and I had twenty something dwarves...three chamion wrestlers..no weapons or armor and ORC RAID...so emergency mass conscripting,,,,,and..I win!...with..three...survivors...the original leader...who is a miner....a mason..and a wood burner... Oh there was also a dwarf caravan, so yay tons of free stuff now :P ..if i survive somehow... [editline]08:22PM[/editline] Here, I uploaded a map picture to show the horrible aftermath X_X Dwarf bits EVERYWHERE X_X http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-6471-roarsglazes Well, time to abandon the fort and reclaim it, because my only walking dwarf went insane! and the other two are bed ridden...>.<
well shit i dont feel like starting over again [editline]09:50PM[/editline] I made a farm plot on peat and it seemed to work [editline]09:52PM[/editline] I'm reading up on it and it doesn't seem complicated
Thank God, finally a decent person who is WILLING to give the game a try. Trust me, once you get the mechanics of the game, you'll love it. Nothing beats seeing your soldiers close in on a Goblin ambush and swat em down like flies. My personal favorite about this game is the whole "Do it all yourself" feel. I get walls the way I want and towers and stuff... And yeah, usually the first 2 z levels will be soil, the rest will be stone. Soil can be planted on, stone needs to be wet (either by flooding it with water or whatever) before you can plant on it. Farmer, one thing, the Wiki is your friend. That is all I can say. Some questions can't be answered, so ask away here. As for everything else - www.dwarffortresswiki.net [editline]10:11PM[/editline] terrorclaw, just cause Orcs are there, doesn't mean you HAVE TO, WITHOUT A DOUBT fight them. Close up your fort and snuggle down. They should go after a season. I usually just conscript one of my guys and give him a shitty crossbow and stick him in a tower. I then make him a Marksdwarf after that.
I've gotten well into the game, everything is going well..appart from thirst...what should I do? there's a shallow river which the dwarf's cross and such but they can't drink from it often. I've been thinking about a well but I can't get metal. So my questions are, how should I get them water, and wether I need a well or not, how do I find some metal!
The easiest way to cure thirst is to brew alcohol. Here's a list of things you need: - 1 Brewer - 1 Still - Plump Helmets - Barrels You get plump helmets by, obviously, planting plump helmet spawn at a farm.
2. How can you check what time of the year it is. I assume we'll do 1 year each, need to know how to check that.
Press z and it'll tell you the date/year/season in the top right corner, usually succession games switch people at the beginning of each year.

I'd also like to sign up for the succession game if there's going to be one.
I'm sorry, but why do you need metal to make a well? A stone block, a restraint (I use rope reed) and a mechanism and a bucket is needed. No metal is required. Just channel out a section and lead it into your base. Build a fortification too, to block out unwanted carp and stuff, then build the well over it.
It sais it needs metal chain, also my drawf's want water, I've made beer.
what does channeling a tile do exactly?
Channeling a tile basically is digging a ditch. It removed the top floor layer AND the bottom layer. So, you effectively end up with something like a moat or whatever.
So anyone up for a Bloodline game?
It's not going to work. I guarantee it.
it cant go that bad
So I've come to the conclusion that my lobby is kind of like the golden gate bridge, every time someone in my fortress gets severely depressed, they just throw themselves off into the reservoir. It's not all bad though, this seems to keep most of my berserk dwarves occupied with suffocating rather than killing the nearest baby.
I'm starting out here. Do I need 6 in a skill for a dorf to actually be able to perform the task that skill requires? I found myself stuck, unable to build a carpenter's workshop
No, as long as the dwarves are given the profession, it doesn't matter if they are a novice or legendary. You're probably either not giving them enough time (they could be occupied with hauling stone) or you're doing something wrong.
it cant go that bad
An FP succession game has never been completed. We've had ones that were going along good and just suddenly died.
Why do none of my dwarfs work at the craftdwarf work shop? I have 10 bone crafts queued but they don't work on it. They just idle...
Enable bone carving on a dwarf if you haven't. You also need bones (duh), not sure if they take them from refuse piles.
