It looks... complicated and a little hard on the eyes, does it actually use colored symbols to designate different types of objects?
If the default colours hurt your eyes, I recommend checking and installing the natural colour scheme from the DF wiki. Looks brilliant.

Message too short.
Question:
How can I go about getting water when during the FIRST YEAR in summer ALL the water dried up.
I swear I started next to a brook.
You don't need water in the first year unless you manage to injure some of your dwarves. Just brew lotsa' booze.

You might be fucked. I've started forts on areas with a bunch of water that dried up and never returned. You could create an underground reservoir, which doesn't dry up if I remember.
All the muddy pools will refill with 1 depth tiles of water at the start of one of the seasons (forget which), if it's too hot though it'll just dry up again.
Why the fuck won't they melt a steel pickaxe. I set it to melt and go to the furnace and it tells me that there's no metals to melt.
It's been a year and all I'm left with is muddy pools.

Trying do figure out how do make a windmill work automatticaly for pumping:bang:
Your defences suck. Build a longer entrance hallway, build more traps(preferably cage), make entrance hallway narrower(more people fall in to traps) and use moats, bridges and doorways to stop enemies from moving in to your fortress.
Traps along a hallway make things very boring.
Aaand 25 migrants wee.
Using bridges to insta-kill enemies is gay. Traps are only allowed if using cage traps, to host gladiatorial matches. Other than that, brute force with dwarves is the way to go.

no wait the elves got them here when i seized their goods awesome
I just got ambushed by goblins. My still-in-training wrestlers ran out and got killed along with my hunter who was hunting at the time.
Still, I caged them with my traps and took all their clothes in revenge. No one kills my dwarves and gets away with it!
Weapons traps, are go, I am going to RAPE those damned orcs this time..*has weapon traps, building crossbow traps..he is going to take them out with a vengance this time..* *Also cage traps >.>*
You don't need an anvil for cage traps. Not even weapon traps. You can build cages out of wood and obsidian short swords at a crafts workshop.
Obsidian swords make the best cost-effective weapon trap.
Obsidian would be great if I lived near a magma pipe or volcano or something.....>.<
*cough* ....I thank you for saying my defences suck, when I was unable to ever get an anvil because the first year my broker was too retarted to go to the trade depot when I told him too when they arrived, and never went, so they left before he went there because he was "on break"
The seccond year I was attacked the instant the traders finished setting up, so I never had an anvil or anything to make a lot of the needed traps, and my halls were 3 wide, thats it, not 10 wide or something, 3 wide, though I do plan on trying a bridge in my next fort.
Just use a stonefall trap or a cage trap. Neither require you to use an anvil.
OH GOD CHILD PREDATOR IN THE FORTRESS!

More like a miner and a minor, amirite?
Just use a stonefall trap or a cage trap. Neither require you to use an anvil.
Orcs are smart enough to get around stonefall traps..I found that out the hard way...

Why? can you loot them?
Why? can you loot them?
Yes because caravans tend to contain TONS of stuff to take and same goes for the bodies
SO what happens if I just attack one?
SO what happens if I just attack one?
you cant but you can take the stuff by force in the trade menu Dwarf traders get just angry elves and humans will wanto seige you soon if you kill their traders and take their stuff
I'll start playing, it'll take me a while to get it down though :v:
Hey, you. With the default avatar. Yeah, you. Change it.

Your avatar doesn't look nice either, punk.
IS there a way to plug up a tile below, my flood gate has water coming out of a corner, so I want to block it but it's filled up so I was hoping to be able from above.
