Am I the only one who thinks the art style is perfectly fine and I'll enjoy playing this game because it'll be fun?
Nah, I'm with you on that.
Two years though....
I agree with OP...
It's way too easy to see the WoW influences in D3; Blizzard themselves was quoted on saying that they had some of the same development team working on it, and used some aspects to influence the game.
Mostly, I am looking forward to D3 - but some things have that exaggerated, WoW-style look to them.
I won't be buying this for full price that's for sure. Far too much WoW-style for me.
I made some exaggerations in my op for the sake of comedy. Diablo 3 has too much WoW in it. Thats all.
I think you are confusing the references, Diablo 2 was made before WoW so WoW creatues are actually based on Diablo creatures, not the other way round
you sir, do not realize that warcraft started back in 91 and diable started in 97.
Holy shit if you hate it so much make a texture pack when it comes out and shut up already.

Just because the creatures are fat doesn't mean they have to be abominations.
OH and by the way the Grell is probably a rip-off off the fallen. Not the fallen ripped off grells.
And you try being creative with skeletons.
They are skeletons! they look the same in every game i've seen them in.
[editline]12:20AM[/editline]
You're being ridiculous.
I really think you're just picking at the corners here, a few of the similarities I can agree on but how can you say an Abomonation and Thousand Pounder look anything alike? The only similarities they share are that they're both morbidly obese and need to see the sun a bit more.
The Dark Demon looks a bit like the Fel Hound but only in the face department to be honest, the body is nothing alike and the Fallen Shamen look fucking awesome, I don't care what you say. The only similarities they share with the grell are overall stance and body color.

A company re-using resources? Unheard of! *Cough* VALVe *Cough*
lol i actually find that kind of cool.
But the game is in development. Alot of polishing up will be done.
[editline]12:38AM[/editline]
Agree with caps lock.
Valve has used props from hl2 in Left 4 dead and portal but nobody complains.
I think it's because people have waited for diablo3 for many years and now it was announced so spontaniously that they expect it to be so awesome like it was made by a god. So they nitpick every single detail of it that in reality.. doesn't matter.
Because when you will play the game. It will be loads of fun and you won't care if they used a shelf model from WoW.

World of Warcraft textures/ Released 2004
Diablo III textures/ Yet to be released 2009-?
That is like Left 4 Dead using textures from Half-Life

I would not care if there were like Diablo I or II sounds in Diablo III. WoW sounds in Diablo, not so much
I rebut
This is how to disagree with me. Give me reasons beyond "IM TIRED OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT UNIMPORTANT STUFF LIKE ARTISTIC DESIGN OR RELEVANCE TO PREVIOUS GAMES"
Yeah blizzard would defiantly not want to take some elements from their most popular game the company has ever made, and the most popular MMO ever. That would just be fucking stupid.
WoW sounds in Diablo, not so much
Next you're gonna bitch that the'swords hitting each other' sounds just like it does in wow. Why do they need to make everything from scratch? If they already have something just as good, let them use it.
Why do they need to make everything from scratch?
Your absolutely right! Why make anything from scratch? What kind of a game design team would make anything from scratch. How dumb of me.

I'm just saying, why are you forcing them to make new sounds when they already have like 100 different 'sword clashing together' sounds.
You're acting as if one sound is recycled, the whole game is shit.

But where does it stop?
"This sword model is fine, lets just use it in D3"
"This armor set is pretty well made, lets just put it in D3"
"This entire lighthearted fantasy art design seems to bring in the money pretty well, lets just put this in D3"

Guess what? It's still got ~2 years of development.
It's called placeholders.
[editline]11:20PM[/editline]
Let me clarify
They want to playtest now and not later, so they port most of the engine/textures and replace them as they go.
I would not care if there were like Diablo I or II sounds in Diablo III.
That doesn't work.
If I said hl1 sounds in hl2, that would work.
your post's logic is flawed.

This fairly true, Diablo 3 isn't coming out anytime soon and as we saw with Starcraft 2 the models are definitely subject to drastic change.
ITT: Nits are picked, straws are grasped.

They said they weren't changing the art style, so that kinda means as far as placeholder goes, it won't be terribly different.

It's not about them reusing the shelf, it's about them reusing a shelf from WoW, which is proof that they're using that particular art direction.
Shelves look the same anyway; They're still shelves.
