Would it be any better if we just never had a Diablo 3, but Blizzard released a dungeon-crawler of a different title with this style of graphics?
To me, it makes no difference.
Actually, that is what I want.
Call the game something else, anything, but don't let it take the position of Diablo 3.
[editline]07:03PM[/editline]
Guys, have you ever thought that they went with this particular style / direction for game-play benefits? If you're looking at a screen filled with overly-dark and ghoulish demons crowded everywhere, how are you supposed to play? This style provides excellent, easy identifications for all of the characters, monsters and beasts.
Not to mention that Diablo I and Diablo II both were run on horrible (on today's standards, mind you) engines that have terrible graphics which forces the dark and gritty environments. If you were to put everything in Diablo 2 exactly how it is with a graphical update into Diablo 3, it would look terrible.
If you don't like the game, that's fine with you, nobody if forcing you to buy this game. Please don't make a big upset about it, because it's just going to start flame-wars and (some) salty comments and arguments towards you and anybody that agrees with you. If you want to start an intelligent debate about the game's art style or any other complaints you have about it, I'm sure more than just myself would appreciate it if you approached it with some opinions / facts with evidence / examples to support them.
Now, back on-topic, I agree some of the art does lean a bit more on the cartoon-ish side, but we'll see how Blizzard responds to some of the reactions from fans and beta/alpha testers. Besides, I'm all for the style as long as it doesn't hinder game-play at all and I'm enjoying it, but that's just me.
It worked with Diablo 2, and it can work with Diablo 3.
Who wants easy, simple-minded bullshit? Today's gaming community, that's who, and you belong to its band-wagon full of fecal matter.
Diablo 2's engine isn't bad. It is possible to make an updated 3D engine with the same realistic, gritty graphics style. Titan Quest did it minus the demonic look.
If I don't like the third installment of one of my favorite series of all time because a game company has been taken over by greedy, WoW worshiping ass-masters, I am going to be pissed and complain.
Here are a few main reasons why Diablo 3 will suck:
- Art direction (Bright, cartoony, mythical).
- Automatically places character stats.
- Runescape/WoW style inventory.
- Potions removed.
- Too many of the original classes have been removed.
- The game-play has been slowed down.
- Most of the creatures I have witnessed no longer even have a demonic appearance.
Right, everything should be exactly the same as the game before it with just a graphics update.
:downs:
No, but they went backwards with the game-play, not forwards.

[editline]07:04PM[/editline]
Yeah, I won't enjoy the art style if it turns into over-sized armor / weapons.
It has already done this.

Oh no, the pristine title of Diablo is now forever tainted. How will we ever continue?
[EDIT: o wait they weren't pitch black. nevermind]
Sometimes they were.

I don't know, why don't you tell me?
oh fuck oh fuck they're getting rid of the old classes to add in new ones
how will the series ever survive now
I don't know, why don't you tell me?
I'll tell you, stop crying, because it's going to happen anyway, and there's nothing you can do about it.

And he'll continue to complain about it regardless of whether or not you spur him on.
The arguments we make in this forum have as much importance to the people making Diablo 3 as a baby in a ball pit's shit does to the prime minister of malaysia.
So if you're bored enough, pick a side and weave some good arguments. "Cry More" is lazy.
OP hasn't got enough clocks tbh, this was discussed to death, there were petitions etc. While I personally think D3's art style is an abomination to the series they are obviously aiming at a wider audience with more $$ involved, and I guess you can't blame them for that.
Funny, I remember years before D3 was even announced on some fan forums there would often be a thread asking what would you love/hate to see in D3. Can you guess what most of the people said they would hate to see? you guessed it, WoW's art style. How things change.

First of all, if you're going to complain about something, at least get your facts straight. The potions are not removed, they removed the potion belt. In place of it is the skill bar for easier / more satisfying combat. This also plays into your slowed game-play point. The potions were replaced with the orb-like dropped item to quicken the pace of combat, which the skill bar I mentioned earlier does as well.
And of course some of the classes have been removed, it's a new game! Just think, if they had the same classes as Diablo II, or at least several more or them, you would be complaining about how Blizzard got lazy and you want more different classes.
retarded thread needs to be shot and gutted at the town square.
I like how the OP claims it's his opinions and he has right to share it, and if we don't like it we should leave, but when we share OUR opinions he starts freaking out and getting butthurt.

facepunch as we know and hate it. 2 minutes and he'll post about how you are a totally wrong ignorant dickhead or something, i'll even wager 20$
Make it $30.

I'm happy that we're getting new classes as well, or it'd just be Diablo 2.1

They removed MOST of the old classes, not just some, and replaced them with renamed WoW classes. The witchdoctor is the bastardized baby of the shaman and something else.

It's a pretty normal reaction when everyone's opinion consists of calling him retarded.
Just sayin.

Ahahahhahah
The witchdoctor isn't like anything in WoW.
You're an ignorant one aren't you?
I kicked Blizzard's worthless ass off of my personal favorite game developer list after they cancelled Starcraft: GHOST and went on to create not one, but two direct expansion packs for their precious overgrown, bloated, fatass cash cow, World of Warcraft. A special 'fuck you' also goes out to them for replacing the Necromancer class with the witch doctor in D3.
Im sorry but Necromancer is too overused in MMOs to really just use it even more I thought it was a good idea.

Woops, poor choice of words. I meant to say they added it as a dropped item just to quicken combat. Potions still drop, just not as often.
And how is the Witch Doctor ANYTHING like the Shaman?
:downs:

Yeah because the WoW shaman summons walls of zombies and can enchant dogs with elements. We have a genius right here.

cry a river, build a bridge and get over it. and while you're at it, don't try to make up facts when discussing with us. "eye have you"
you're the bastardized baby of boxxy and oify-tards merged into one single individual.
Witchdoctor reminds me of Necro.
I wanna play Diablo 3
Diablo 3 is going to be fucking great.
I will probably cry of joy when i have it in my hands.
I am sure blizzard will make a masterpiece out of this title.
Most of you guys are just nitpicking to the extreme.

It's also worth mentioning a majority of your "opinions" are get out, fuck you, if you don't like it don't buy it, the game isn't bad, etc, etc.
The other half are intelligent though, so that makes up for it.

This is an unintelligent thing to say, eh?
It's not a valid argument, it's an opinion, and you won't be able to know whether it's good or not until it comes out.
