Try GuildWiki and PvX wiki Good stuff there. You should probably play through at least some of the story mode. Through unlocking skills in story, you unlock them in PvP-or you can buy them with faction from winning in PvP.
Go to guild wars guru for build david.. sorry but i forgot all about that site.
Try gwpvx.com Guru has builds, but it's a forum primarily, not a build repository.
Also, what's the incentive to PvP? You get all the gear you need from the get go.
So Team Fortress 2 wasn't fun in vanilla because you were competing on an even playing field. Guild wars is not a gear based game (well little things like req 7 15 AL shields, and some req 8 equipment can give a slight edge in some situations, but those are the exceptions, not the rule). Guild wars is based on coming up with a good skill set and then tooling your equipment to fine tune it. The rest of it is tactics. Anymore you can practically faceroll for the majority of builds, but there is a lot in the way of tactics as far as positioning and risk vs reward skills like frenzy. However as mentioned the meta has a lot of builds like bsurge which are basically mash shit on recharge to win unless the people on the other team aren't also terrible.
Thankyou for the suggestions, going to give a meaty warrior build a try! If anyone has any specific builds they can link to make me the toughest tank there is, please do so! I would appreciate it greatly.

There is no threat system. Anyone can perform the general role of a 'tank' with skills like shield of absorption and protective spirit on them. The only places tanking truly occurs are in clears of elite areas where the tank uses skills to make itself immune to spells and most damage. The two skills that do this are shadow form and obsidian flesh. For general pve you do not need a 'tank'. You could run defy pain on a warrior if you really wanted to, but why would you when you could just destroy stuff with hundred blades or dragon slash spam and let your natural heavy armor negate half the damage for you anyways.
Wintersday is here. New hero is Thackeray. You can witness his wedding too. New costumes.
A paragon. Yet another generally worthless hero. I suppose racway will be happy to have this once the 7 hero update finally rolls around, but outside of that this is yet another that nobody will ever use. The idea of him becoming a leader and hence a paragon is nice, but I would have preferred another necromancer.
Paragon? Isn't he a Ranger?
He learns to lead and becomes a paragon in terms of lore. It makes sense, but we really didn't need yet another paragon.
A paragon.
Goddamnit.
What....
Already made a stack of gifts from snowball dominance... Gonna be rich by january!
Seeing how I missed out on the appearances of the gods, I spent 10k to get the hats instead.
Im bored, I might as well start up Guild Wars again, where are you guys at at the moment. Or a better question is, can I catch up? :P
My main has completed prophecies, factions and EoTN, and at the Vabbin missions in Nightfall.
A relative of mine bought this for me for christmas, and I was wondering if anybody had any tips or suggestions on what to do. So far I'm playing the first campaign, and I've seen like 2 people this whole time. Do I complete the campaign, or skip right over to PvP, Factions, or Nightfall?
Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall have no relation in terms of story.
Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall have no relation in terms of story.
Wait, so you need to make a separate character for each one? Or can one character be used throughout all of them?
Or can one character be used throughout all of them?
This.
You just have to reach a certain point and then you can travel to the other continents. In prophecies it's Lion's Arch, in factions it's Kaineng Center, and in NF it's right before you get to Kourna, when you finish the Istani missions. And you must own the game you want to travel to, you can't travel to Cantha if you don't have factions.

The only one I've seen with fairly active PvE is Eye of the North because of the different dungeons and it being the newest.

Even in the big towns? If you play in the American districts you'll see more people than that, so be sure to do that if you're not. And to be honest people don't play through the PvE campaigns much anymore, except Eye of the North and maybe Nighfall if they want to do the elite endgame area in NF.
Don't kid yourself. Barely anyone hangs around in mission outposts anymore. Use heroes or henchman.
Well, I think I'm just going to start on PvP if PvE is that desolate. And yeah, I'm always in an american district.
Sup, been a while since I played GW... just made a new account due to old one going death row. [I miss my nuker. :( ] However! I GOT ALL CAMPAIGNS! Only have prophecies character due to wanting to complete the stories. Prophecies: Hiero Azguard | Lvl. 15~17 R/W HOPE TO MEET SOME NEW QUEST/STORY FRIENDS!
What helps is that Zaishen mission thing since it helps repopulate some missions for a day.
By the time I got the trilogy pack on steam I was too late and hardly anyone was on, so when the second comes out I'm going to get it right at the beginning
A shutdown of Guild Wars servers is imminent. Probably not any time much soon, but mark my words, a layered shutdown is going to go down in the next couple years. Some servers will need to stay up because of the connection of the Hall of Monuments, but it's not a good financial decision to keep dead servers up and running. Arenanet knew they were going to kill their own game once Guild Wars 2 got rolling. Maybe they will feed their servers off the success of GW2, which would be nice, but I really don't see a reason to keep a dead game going. Just look at this thread. The only way to do quests now is to have Heroes and Henchmen. Which, IMO, pretty much kills the 'MMO' experience. Think about it this way, once Guild Wars 2 comes out, are you going to continue playing Guild Wars 2 aside from getting trophies in the HoM? I know I won't. They have shut down NCsoft has shut down some of their MMO's before, and those are the ones that were self-supporting with Pay to Play plans. It's unfortunate, but unless they change something (and I don't know what.) then a shutdown of Guild Wars servers is coming through. I don't know what prompted me to write this, as I'm not trying to win an argument or anything. This thought just popped into my head, and unless I can get proven wrong (And please, prove me wrong.) I see this as an unfortunate truth that no one wants to happen... The idea popped up and I needed to write it down somewhere. TL:DR I think that a staggered shutdown of Guild Wars servers are coming in the next few years.

A-net has started shutting down servers ever since eotn sales peak had passed, which was easy to notice in 2009 and early 2010 due to many server issues, it was even confirmed in an interview by some a-net staff member.
But what I'm referring to is an entire shutdown of the game with just enough to support the HoM, which people's rewards will be transferred to a different server probably or stored in Guild Wars 2's servers. Was an entire shutdown confirmed?
