I got the normal/first/expansion-free/core thing of this game. I remember the game being kinda fun, didn't get to play it very much because mainly my brother played it, but he quit because everyone else had expansions and he didn't bother buying them. Is it still worth downloading this game and playing it without any expansions?
right now i'm trying to make an energy storage elementalist that actually works, but i'm having to run all over creation trying to get elite skills since there are only 2-3 non elite skills in energy storage :v: [editline]6th July 2011[/editline] i did end up making an ok tank elementalist actually using master of magic and prismatic insignias
I bought the trilogy off steam because i wanted to come back to this after so many years away and im sick to death of WoW, is this game still quite active?
God damnit I'm stuck on 460 kills in vanquishing drakkar lake and I can't find the last few enemies. I don't want to rezone because it's taken me a good three hours. Any ideas on where to search? [editline]6th July 2011[/editline] Nevermind there were a couple of stupid wisp patrols on the lake that kept on moving out of my line of sight.

You practically have to go clockwise and counter clockwise on the lake and then again around the lake to snag everything, including korr windrunner. Apparently we are supposed to get a major update this weekend at some point. The rumor mill has some credible information about the next winds of change release. I'm hoping for some more neat weapon skins. A couple of guildies want some new consumables of some sort, but I don't really see what they could add at this point that wouldn't be redundant.
Now the question is, is this before or after accounting for Anet's tendency to use Valve Time™?
Seeing as he absolutely wanted to get it out before his wedding, and he's leaving for his wedding on the 9th, I figure it'll be fine.
And what do you know, it's out. First time for everything I suppose.
Hell yes, a reason to play GW again! Here's a link to the neat page on it http://guildwars.com/windsofchange/ Also, they have an FAQ for anyone who wants more info on what this is: http://guildwars.com/windsofchange/faq.html [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] fuck yeah new weapon skins [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] They better count towards HoM
Yay, kaineng doesn't have to be so empty anymore.
Does anyone else think that Arenanet hired on a new artist? The drawings for Winds of Change seem to be in a slightly more stylized artstyle compared to most of the work we've seen from Arenanet's artists. Also wow, 42 quests, and this is only one of three phases. Also since they said that Winds of Change will continue through 2011, it sounds like GW2 is aiming for more of a 2012 release.
I haven't even finished War in Kryta storyline yet, currently replaying Factions using my dervish, but this time with a friend who just bought GW Trilogy few days ago.
I feel like purchasing one of the costume sets. They look so cool

There probably wont even be a 2011 open beta (If there will even be one, based on alpha+closed beta feedback).
Wait 2012 or 2011 release?
Wait 2012 or 2011 release?
2011, Typo'd FORGIVE ME MY LORD
2011, Typo'd FORGIVE ME MY LORD
Fuck, page king. As far as I know, they're in closed/friends and family beta right now, or very soon. I still think they'll want to do a beta, since they think it will be more like a demo than a real bug testing beta.
I'm like 90% sure they'll do an open beta. The reason being not bug testing, but seeing how their system works on a large scale, such as the dynamic events, seeing how balanced the game is and sorting out any exploits crafty players discover. Specifically certain builds/techniques may turn out to be overpowered, and having an active community playing is probably the only way to discover that kind of thing.
i play mesmers for their swag armor
I made a random RoJ build to play through WoC with. I love that skill. :D
Played this game a bunch since I bought it during the Steam sale. The PvE is pretty fun, but it can be kinda annoying trying to unsuccessfully find people to run with that aren't already level 20 and have already run this mission 10 times before. Its still quite fun though. I can't get into the PvP. Too many people have been playing since like 2005, and know exactly how every single skill works on every character. Meanwhile, me just trying to play my PvE class, Elementalist/Monk, is enough trouble for me. So... I guess I'll just wait for Guild Wars 2 before I get into the PvP, so I'm not 6 years behind everyone else in learning how everything works.

I played back when Prophecies came out, but quite before Factions. I only just started again when the HoM stuff was announced, so I know what you're talking about. I had to learn the entire game. You need a really thick skin, too. I've never seen so much rage in a video game in my life. Random Arena isn't supposed to be *that* competitive...
I've never seen so much rage in a video game in my life.
Obviously you've never played APB.
Obviously you've never played APB.
Actually, I did pretty recently, but only about 20 hours or so. I didn't get raged at as much, but I did get called a hacker every single day I played. GW is just different, I guess. If you take a build that isn't "Meta" into PvP, you get called a noob, etc, and reported as a leecher. All because you want to play an unusual style.

A single person with a shitter build can, and most likely will ruin every chance of winning.
I started playing pvp about 2 weeks after getting the game, I tried dervish, its really fucking easy imo
The new derv is just a faceroll. Spam buttons to apply half the conditions in the game every 10 seconds, and have IMS, IAS, and as much armor as a warrior. If you want to get good, play shock axe and learn how to Quarter Knock people in RA. If you learn how to do that you will be able to push kills all the time in RA because of your ability to incapacitate a monk for 6 solid seconds while you wale on them in frenzy.
