I've had over 6000 hours of enjoyment from Guildwars 1.
It's worth it, even now, sure you wont have the exact same experience, but I still play often enough for it to be worth a new purchase (bought a new account a few months ago for GW2 (Partner))
The Trilogy is SLIGHTLY cheaper from NCSoft, but otherwise I think steam's prices are the same.
My only complaint is they don't have a bundle that includes EotN. I can get the trilogy for 29.99, but then EotN is another 19.99
Sad day. I could get the trilogy today, and then EotN later I guess.

You could get them from key-selling sites, if you happen to know a reputable one you can easily get trilogy for 15 and eotn for 10.
Halloween! I can't wait.
halloween is coming up,
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/List_of_Halloween_collectors
look at the above link and start gathering trophies to trade for stacks of either sweets/alcohol/party items for use to get the title
or just get trick-or-treat bags and sell them

Anyone have any tips on how to get fast/easy gold?
Do speed clears, or farm the fuck out of stuff.
FoWSC, UWSC and DoASC are quite easy money.
That is, if you have the right set up and equipment. If not I made a ton of money just going around doing things like vanquishing, dungeons, zaishen quests, etc. Its not as fast as speed clearing, but it gets the job done all the same.
Yeah I really don't have the gear/skills set up for those kind of crazy elite runs.

Doing all of the campaigns in hard mode to get hero, protector and guardian will give you enough money to nearly fill the other sections to get 30/30. If you go for a pvp title that is even better as you can save loads on armor.

Also War in Kryta is a few hours for an oppressor, worth doing.
But watch out for that final quest in War in Kryta. I had to do it before the 7 hero update with just heroes and henchmen. It felt so satisfying to finish off those smug mursaat bastards.
Ah good old steam always finding me a game to pass my time :D, Red Faction Guerilla all over again! time to destroy an entire office complex.........WITH MY FISTS!!! i just hope steam can keep doing this till GW2 comes out :(
-snip-
Started playing GW back in 09, I want to get back into it. Can I add anybody in-game? My main is a level 20 Necro/Monk, under the name Nomis Deadcaster. Might delete all my characters to free up slots, none of them are really far into the game except this one. I have a few characters in their teens, one pvp character and 2 below 10.
Just got the LDoA title. Eeyup.

Oh wow...You're good! I'm still hovering around 16 and I really want to get 30.
Pink day in LA was fun for a bit, not worth playing lots of GW1 for though.

Aw shit, I completely forgot.
I for one cannot, have not, and will not, ever be able to tolerate pre. LDoA is a decent achievement, but good god I cannot understand how people can stand it, let alone find grinding in pre fun. I don't hate grind in and of itself. I've got around six million lightbringer points for a reason after all, and I wouldn't be living in DoA if I didn't enjoy it. However, I find pre to be an insanely dull affair.
On a completely unrelated note I want to buy a shit ton of rock candies, as in, 200-400 of each kind. I'm paying decent prices for them, but will pay more if you have a lot of them.
I actually find Pre much more entertaining than Post. I used to create new characters just for Pre, delete them and create another one. I loved Pre so much.
I wouldn't mind pre too much if it wasn't so laggy. Not sure why, but I always lag like a bitch there.
I personally really like pre because it still has a little bit of that feeling I had 6+ years ago when I first started playing, all warm and cozy.
i like seeing an area in a "calm before the strom" type of state, even more so when the aftermath is so devistating
How long do you think it will take to get thru all the guild wars content (across all expansions).

Considering how many people play through the campaigns now, I'd say it all depends on your equipment, build and hero's. It could take weeks to go through Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall and EotN.

Especially if you don't have the experience, it could take much longer.

Damn... I was thinking if it was worth it to try before GW2 came out. Or only get the eye of the north expansion to receive content in GW2.

You need a campaign in order to have eotn.
And the game is still very much worth fully buying and playing.

If you want GW2 to be a great game. Purchasing GW1 (and all expansions) is a good way to support the developers! I'm planning on upgrading my GW account soon.

Not to mention, my favorite time of Guild Wars is Halloween and Christmas! The in-game events are great.
I can't find anything on this collectors edition... is that the same as the GotY?
And would you recommend the standard game followed by eotn then the rest or the others first.
And sorry about the slew of questions :D all of you are a big help.
You can only buy the CE from other websites (presumably pre-owned). Although the GoTY edition gives you some nice features as well. It really doesn't matter where you start playing since each of them has different story lines that don't relate to each other. Although if you want to stick with the release, then I suggest starting with Prophecies.
