Apparently they are talking about GW2 for Consoles, to be released at a later date than the PC. Unconfirmed, it was somewhere in the conference call that was had some time ago.
That's been a thought on NCsoft's and Anet's minds for at least a year now, they were merely stating that they still hadn't given up on the idea of maybe doing that.
TB just announced on facebook that he can and will be filming the beta. Footage will start posting on Monday. His channel will convert to a GW2 base. HNNNGGG.
I am in the Guild Wars 2 beta and I have filming rights. The first beta (they do not have it up 24/7) is this weekend. Just my luck, I'm in Sweden, I can't play, however I am having 2 of my team (Genna and Frank) go on a major filming spree. We've setup a system whereby they can get the footage to me and I'll have a metric ton to work with once I get back from Sweden. Best we can under the circumstances sadly, my actual impressions rather than simply analysis and commentaries will come into play once I get the chance to participate in a future event. All footage is embargoed under the NDA until Monday so streaming is an impossibility, but I get back home on Monday so I can work from that point on.
The channel will be going into major GW2 gear, Cataclysm-style. It is by far the game people want to see the most and it makes sense, bearing in mind the channel really got going as an MMO commentary and news channel, that we continue to focus on upcoming MMOs of importance, which GW2 is currently top of the pile of.
My mom is in sweden, I will tell her to kidnap TB and hold his GW2 beta access hostage for me. Then I can play it allllll daaaayy loooonnng
problem is that his team has beta access, not him.

i am going to burn your house down 2 days before the release of gw2
Why two days?
Why two days?
1st day will be shock of losing his house
2nd day he will realize he won't be able to play gw2
release day: weeping, and then suicide
maybe i will just send the gw2 team an email instead, and tell them to make the game not work on any computer he touches
and then GW2 was spanish

What makes you think the shock of losing his house comes before the realization?

I wonder if they're considering cross platform compatibility. I don't think it's disadventagious to use a controller in this style of game; it's just a matter of getting the skills.

asking too many questions, i will have to burn down your house as well

They supposedly had a small team investigating console possibility.
Just a thought, they could dedicate the left triggers and dpad for the skill bar. All four directions for four skills, the one trigger for the fifth, then hold the other trigger to use the other five.
i would have thought triggers for targeting (next, previous), direction stick for 5 skills (up, down, left, right and no direction) and hold a button + direction for other 5), jump/roll on a button
problems would be aiming spells (environment ones), quick inventory use and keeping pvp fair.
Then theres the constant stream of updates thats impossible for consoles
i can only see this (maybe) working on the WiiU because of the controller

GW2 doesn't have targeting, unless they change the mechanics just for the console.
I would think 4-5 buttons for skills, and then another button to toggle which skills are showing.
Like, A might do skill 1, but Trigger + A might do skill 6
The sticks would HAVE to be used for looking, targeting and moving.
console guild wars could be done , but you would have to use mouse and keyboard plug in, there is also no dedicated in game voice that i know of atm , people will have to use vent or something like that, plus if it was through xbox or ps3 im sure the regulations for them would screw with anet and make updates and stuff slower and more difficult to implement.
they said they have a small team looking at the possibility of GW2 on consoles, it isn't confirmed yet
GW1 was supposed to have a console port too

And now GW2guru has a huge fit about it. Fuck I cannot deal with those children. And then someone decides to make a thread about how they are reconsidering their purchase because maybe a console port is being made.
Immature motherfuckers who obviously have no faith in the developers and immediately jump on the slightest negative thing to start shit about.

I apologize for providing that can of worms. I was just relaying information.

I can see where they're coming from though, GW2 also being on console would severely impact future updates for GW2, provided that they're developing them at the same time for PC as well as consoles.
Restrictions, hardware limitations, "Charge them for it"/DLC Patches. Etc.
All of those things would hold back or scale down updates for the PC version as well.
i hope they decide to make a official guild wars forum , guru has so much stupid stuff on it. loads of them complain about how using all the skills while moving and adjusting the camera+ placing aoe on the floor will be really hard.
" Guild Wars 2 has more dimensions of control than any other game in the genre, which is largely the result of being able to move while you activate abilities. You have to target opponents, rotate your camera, move your character, interact with the environment (jump over a fence, push a button) and activate skills all at the same time. In total there are 19 unique buttons you will be to be using at any one moment just to move around and use abilities: 1-0, W, A, S, D, the right mouse button, left mouse button, the scroll wheel, plus hotkeys for dodge, reverse direction and reverse camera."
almost everyone who commented on this agreed with guys post. They clearly are either pve players, RTS players or people who just haven't played any other mmo than gw1 , which wasn't even a mmo.
this really is the bit that made me the most annoyed "Guild Wars 2 has more dimensions of control than any other game in the genre".
"Targeting is a Nightmare and then you encounter indistinguishable enemies of greatly varying sizes and shapes"
how can you not tell the different between asura char humans and norn and a catapult. Also the fact their whole armour set gets dyed a different colour dependent on team , along with a red outline.
This is just a small fraction of the rubbish i keep finding on guru.
They've apparently not played any video game in recent years, and must play GW1 using only the mouse with that weird click to move option.
I'm happy with my knowledge that a console port is likely too difficult for the reward they would get. I think any MMO that was to be sent to the consoles would have to be designed around that just to have it function well. Other than that, it's basically an entirely different audience.
Mickers, I agree with parts of that post. There are a lot of functions that need buttons (I don't agree with all the buttons they listed), and looking could be a problem. On the PC, you might be able to aim by just moving the mouse and clicking, and then if you want to rotate the camera, you might hold down right click and move the mouse. That would be a lot slower on a console, and I feel like targeting would be very difficult on a console, because it is just plain harder to aim on a console.
As for the 'indistinguishable enemies', that is obviously exaggerated, but It made me think about something. Console players are playing on televisions, and sit several feet away. Not all of the players are playing on large, or HD televisions either. It could be very difficult to read small text, see certain enemies from far away, and various other things. Take a look at Dead Rising on a small TV. If you don't have a large TV, the text is unreadable (my friend went through the entire game without being able to read any descriptions or dialog.) Now pretend it's an MMO, and think of all the item descriptions, auction listings, or player written speech you would have to read. That could cut a large chunk of their potential buyers out of the equation.
Plus, PvP would basically be non-existent. IMO, a PC Player will almost always win because of more precise controlling, better hotkeys and more. Another chunk of the game missing for any console player.

Wait what?
[editline]16th February 2012[/editline]
I mean they could port it to consoles, but I feel like it'd be a bit difficult for them to set it up to be worth it for console players. I don't know if you need a specific type of keyboard and mouse for consoles, but if you do it'll just be more money spent for just one game. Then if they don't want to alienate large parts of the console community they'd have to figure out a way to map all the keys to controllers as well, which, while I'm sure is possible in some or the other, isn't very practical. Then there's the whole issue of whether or not to have cross play with pc players, which the pc players will have a definite advantage unless the console players have the keyboard and mouse, and a big enough tv to see everything that's going on.
