So I'll be getting a laptop for university soon, and I want it to run GW2 like a dream. How high-end do you guys think I'm going to have to go, and what brand should I go with?
I've got an Asus K53SV-DH51, it runs GW2 very well on low-medium settings (although I am a tad concerned about how hot it gets).
I'd say minimum you want to go with video card wise on a laptop is an Nvidia GT540M (or comparable AMD card).

I have a Dell Inspiron 17r n7110, with the i5 processor (since you can also get one with i3), cost me 650 euro last November, ran GW2 like a dream. 30-50 fps with settings on high.
Please note that it is not possible to change your account name or e-mail address at this time. However, this will become available prior to the official launch of Guild Wars 2.
For the people who were wondering about that. It's in the signup confirmation email.
Sorry if this has been asked and answered a thousand times, but is there any idea when the next BWE is gonna be? I got to play it a bit last weekend when my brother came home and its AWESOME. I can't wait to give it another go.
No one knows, not even Arenanet themselves. Arenanet specifically stated, "...we expect to have one every month or so" and that, "...there will be at least one more after this one [BWE2] we'll announce when at a later time". Also don't forget that they are most likely going to have a short 6-9 hour Stress Test before they release their new beta build.

Also, in what amounts were gems sold in the gem shop?
Not counting the 2000 free, testing gems. Two other amounts were listed, but you couldn't click them.
Not sure what amounts you're talking about. I mean they did give you a free 500 gems, and with a CC you would get another 2k. You couldn't purchase any with IRL money so maybe that's one of the options you're referring to?
I believe it was about 9 Silver for 100 gems during BWE2. A few months ago during the Public (Press) Beta the IRL price was 4.80 euro for 400 gems, that's about $6.0158 divided by 4 would give you about $1.50 for 100 gems. I found this chart:

PAGE KING, so have this:
We expect to ship Guild Wars 2 in 2012. The final release date will be determined by beta-testing feedback.
I have an ASUS K53TA which has crossfire AMD graphics and it tears through GW2 at medium settings with a solid 60FPS

At the beginning of BWE2 i had something like 3500 gems then I added my credit card to get the 2k more. I didn't spend or try to get any during BWE1 for all I can remember.

I heard some people got 2k more than they should. Wish I could have gotten more.
Out of interest, do those gems carry over to retail?
Out of interest, do those gems carry over to retail?
Probably not. It'd be an unfair advantage, for starters, and because they never said we'd get free gems for having pre-ordered the game.
I heard some people got 2k more than they should. Wish I could have gotten more.
I was rollin' in the dough. The moment I realized it I spent my time getting 125+ armorsmithing and cooking.

rate everything 5 on the next BWE
Out of interest, do those gems carry over to retail?
Retail? You mean release? If so, then no because everything will be wiped before release. Hell they're probably going to wipe for BWE3.
rate everything 5 on the next BWE
except difficulty... muwahahaha
We should consider what they have left to flush out.
First, all the races. 2 races left but there's not that much for us to test there.
PvE. Pretty much completely flushed out. I don't see much to improve upon.
Dungeons. The had their first dungeon in the beta. From that they should have a good amount of feedback that they can apply to all the other dungeons. Even considering that, We'll probably get a dungeon for each race to test but there's not really a lot to test there.
World versus World. We had some problems with having balanced WvW battles. But those are typically time dependent with worlds moving up and down the competitive ladder so that will be fixed shortly after release. This Weekend I didn't see much of the Eternal Battleground, but in the borderlands they put in the group events in the northeast/west parts of the map. Those events, after doing one didn't feel like it meant anything. They'll reiterate that in BWE3. The siege weapons felt pretty balanced this time too.
Structured PvP. Only one game mode so far, point capture. They still have tournament mode to put in and test, they'll probably organize them and offer prizes to get people in. Besides point capture, they should be putting in flag capture. Would be cool to see an original gamemode on top of that.
Crafting. Pretty much done. It can get hard to craft since finding our crafting materials can be hard with the shambled economy. It'd be fixed on release.
Balance. continual thing, they'll have to keep trying even through release.
So we have.... 2 races left, some dungeoneering, and PvP to do. Looks like 1 more BWE till they've covered all their bases. It'll be a 4th if they want to have a spic and span session or follow up on any of the changes from BWE3.
Does anyone know when the next beta is?
More than likely about a month from now if not a bit later.
the next bwe is TOMORROW GUYS GET SUPER HYpED
I suggest the three people above me to check the first post on this page again...
If that's too difficult, here's a nice fresh link:

You forgot a few things such as optimization, fixing hundreds of bugs/glitches, balanced server load, improving upon user suggestions, etc.

Well those things are constant iteration. I was noting the fields that they haven't put into the beta client for us to try out. Of course they're optimizing, of course they're fixing bugs, of course they're dealing with servers and of course they're looking over suggestions.

What I meant was the fact that they are probably not going to let you buy any amount of gems you want.
It will be stuff like 1000 gems for $___ and 5000 gems for $___. I want to know what quantities those bundles are. So, basically, I want to know the minimum gem purchase.

I suppose you're right but it still takes time to do all of those and I think it should be counted into the wait until release.

Idk, all I have is this image to go off of:

There must be a screen before that allows you to select the amount and I'm sure it's got to be in certain increments. From that image it could be by 100 gems or 200.
Okay, that helps. 400 is probably the smallest amount at about 5-6 USD.
Probably $5. People like the number five.
But then the price in € is wrong or Europeans are getting ripped off again.
I hope the price is wrong.

That screenshot was taken during the CBT so it's most likely changed since then. Although taking into consideration the price of an extra character slot in GW1 was $10, and the estimated price for GW2 is $12 (looking at the table on the first post of this page). This seems relatively accurate, so 400 gems would be about $6 if 100 gems continues to be $1.50. Although I'm sure there will be a discount percentage for buying more gems in bulk.
[editline]14th June 2012[/editline]
$2 and you can get an Exp Boost!

5 dollar isn't the same as 5 euro.
If they charge 1$ = 1€ they're just being greedy. There are 0 production costs, import laws, or any kind of weak excuse that they used with the CE. If they do it on a digital transaction in a game, they can kiss my money goodbye.

I didn't say $5, I said $6, because I was doing the calculation for 400 gems which was 4.80 Euro in the screenshot.

Guys, we don't know anything other than that image. For all we know they could make it 400 gems for 4.8 euros, and 300 gems for 5 dollars or something like that.
Just wait until we know more stuff before everyone starts freaking out.

I don't understand how people do it. Then again, I suppose it is always the same people contributing what I would say before I can say it. :v:
what the fuck I have 135?!

Since they have seperate servers, I can only assume that they'll have different options/rates for the two currencies. But that's a pretty long shot.
