I agree with LaughBann I really liked guildwars(1), probably my favorite online game ever as well, guildwars 2 just doesn't feel the same way. I played it during two beta weekends, it was fun but i will certainly miss the original guild wars.
Never played GW1. So I guess I'll never have the feeling of liking one game over the other. But I did play Age of Reckoning, and loved the shit out of it, and GW2 and Age of Reckoning are VERY similar.
Christ i go away for a few days and wtf happens to the thread!? Whiners and haters get the fuck out and let us have fun with our game that we enjoy.
This one better. No more instanced nonsense
I think you're over-analyzing what this game really is. Have you ever seen a sequel to a game that was like its predecessor? I'm glad Guild Wars 2 isn't "Guild Wars" for whatever that means.
I totally agree, I love GW to death, have everything about it you could possibly have but I'm sooooo happy GW2 isn't like GW1.
Whatever I do online I always seem to bump into something Guild Wars 2 and spend the next five hours looking up lore and everything. I really regret not getting the most of of the beta weekend now, this is probably going to be one of my favorite of all time titles. The game is very different to the original Guild Wars and people need to stop comparing it.

Maybe it's because i never truely cross-classed in GW1, and i allways felt like a third of my bar had to be filled with skills i felt i couldnt leave without (some sort of self-heal, res, and at least one defensive cooldown) that even the GW2 weapon kits just don't phase me. Don't get me wrong, i have some fucking amazing memories of prophesies, playing it around a friends house to show him, killing them drakes by the river, but that time has kinda passed. if they released another GW1 expansion i don't think i'd end up playing it, despite it being a solid game, it's in a good place to start decaying, it's not being cash-cowed, it has a solid community and i think most people who played it were fond of it. And honestly, i do actually believe GW2 is going to invoke these emotions in me in a few years, the area around divinities reach is both close enough to pre-searing to make me nostalgic, but different enough to appreciate it's charm.
This one better. No more instanced nonsense
Definitely an argument-starter right there, careful. Anyway, for sure GW2 is going to be different, but like Pie said, we've had more than enough content for GW1; it's time for a big change. And after extensively playing the beta, I can actually say that GW2 is the most fun game I have ever played. Even if it isn't exactly what every single person wanted, you have to give them mad props for what they've accomplished. I have never been this excited for an MMO, and furthermore I don't think I've ever been this excited for any videogame in general, with the possible exceptions of Skyrim and the Assassin's Creed series.
I tried playing GW1 several years ago at the request of a friend and just couldn't get into it. I've been playing it again recently so I can get the story in preparation of GW2. I really like the story of GW1 and the gameplay is pretty solid but from the BWEs I'd say I like the gameplay in GW2 more.
I like bacon.
Stop wasting your time trying to convince people that have concrete opinions that the game is bad that they're wrong. No matter what you say they aren't going to change their mind.

Also, as a new point of conversation: My toon is prettier than yours.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/lrdY7.jpg[/t] oh shit you did not just say that
I never liked the term 'toon'. Where did it even stem from in the first place?
I never liked the term 'toon'. Where did it even stem from in the first place?
I googled because i legitimately didnt have a clue, this was the most credible hint i could find
It's a shortening of the term "cartoon avatar" which was coined ten or so years ago in reference (originally) to chat programs that used avatars to represent people. It carried over into MMOs easily due to their social nature.
[sp]also i only posted that picture to distract us from paralleling GW1 to GW2. lets see if it works . :v:[/sp]
so people took the cartoon part of the term, but not
avatar
literally means the embodiment of another, or representation of one online I can understand using toon if you're talking about your user in something all cel shaded or based around cartoons like that cartoon network mmo, but not it in anything else, especially when they strive for pseudo-realism nowadays
I am sad that we can't just use char as in character, because people will just think we are dumb, and trying to say charr. [editline].[/editline] Terrible pageking.
How is the lore of Guild Wars (2)?
people used it when wow first came out as a sort of reference to warcraft 3's units looking cartoony in their portraits
I remember seeing "toon" used in City of Heroes alot more than char or character.
Just bought the game! Can't wait to play with you guys
My char is more pretty than your toon.
How is the lore of Guild Wars (2)?
Fan-fucking-tastic IMHO. Here's an overview of the events leading up to GW2. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Movement_of_the_World
All the professions and races seem to provide so much different content. In other MMO's I would always focus on an individual character, but in Guild Wars I will probably focus on all five character slots.
