im not even going to play asura anyway. i dont find the appeal in playing little people in mmos

So, Gate of Madness it is?
Yes, pretty much. It was between GoM and Tarnished Coast, and most people didn't seem to like Tarnished because of all the RPers that may be there.
As for EU, I haven't seen (much) resistance with just staying with Ring of Fire, everybody okay with that?
I'm hosting a mumble for this BWE. Be there or be square. (or really any shape you prefer)

im not sure really, i might go with one of the more UK heavy servers, Anyone buying gems on day one? i think i'm going to grab a few bank slots and maybe a bag slot too.
Anvil Rock is pretty much one of the places I will never choose, sorry. Having /vg/ on that list will draw far too many people - those that are actually part of whatever guild /vg/ is making, and those that will just go because "hey, /vg/ is going"
Gate of Madness actually is looking like a reasonable choice (even disregarding the fact that "it has a cool name")
The community list shows that it has a bunch of guilds, and one large (?) community. I took the time to google a handful of the guilds on the list, and visit their websites. One alliance of 8 guilds on that list seems to actually have skilled players. They all have those generic "we strive to be the best", but some of them seem to actually be good players - a few of the websites/guilds have lists of achievements they did, like Rank 1 in Rift or Blah blah blah in WoW, etc etc. Mix of PvE and PvP, but seems to focus more on PvP.
Personally I think that it seems like a good choice. The name alone probably means a decent population, because random players might choose it, plus there are those listed guilds and community. It's impossible to judge the entire server on how good they are at PvP/PvE, but I think it has a pretty good chance of being above average. I don't think we will get stomped in WvW, a few of the guilds on the list focus on WvW specifically, and some of the rest are PvP focused, but that's not really a worry - unless we're on the worst server in the game, all the matches should be pretty even (after a week or two, when the rankings are made).
My 2 cents.
Im sold on that, thats the type of realm you want, good PvPers make any realm or server on MMOs just way more enjoyable since PvP is a big focus, especially in GW2.
Name is sick also so thats a plus.
I'm liking Gates of Madness as well, for its name AND players. Count me in.
Hey guys, got a few questions about GW2.
Firstly, on the main site I can't seem to find a way to purchase a digital EU version of the game, is there anywhere going that I can get a hold of a key without waiting 3-5 days for postage?
Also, is there a recent link going for the beta client that I could download in preparation? Terribly slow internet here so I'd like to spend my time playing and not downloading over the weekend.
Well tomorrow I guess I'll hop on Gate of Madness. I put myself into the FP GW2 roster. Should I ask for an invite anyway for whomever is the guild leader for the NA version?
What time does the test begin?

i was just checking out the official forums and server transfers will be free for a short amount of time and have no waiting period between transfers. So if you guys haven't decided a guild you can all take a look around to see how the server's community is.
"World transfer will be free and unlimited from Noon July 20 to 6:00 PM Pacific on July 21. After this period, you’ll need to spend gems for a transfer. Transfers will still be unlimited. The gem costs for a world transfer after 6:00 PM Pacific on July 21:"
1800 gems to transfer to a high population world
1000 gems to transfer to a medium population world
500 gems to transfer to a low population world
I like and dislike this payment method,a $10 difference in price between a medium and high populated server is a bit too much for my liking i would much prefer 1000 gems for medium, high. and 500 or even free for low to give people an incentive to fill lower populated servers. Who the hell would pay to move to a low population server anyway, other than maybe botters and gold farmers.
Also remember that all your gems will be refunded on launch. Im guessing our home server wont be wiped for release either?
Really really tempted to prepurchase the game to get access to the beta tomorrow. I'm just on the fence, because $60 is a lot just to have two days of access early.

it would be the same price 2 days later so you aren't really spending extra, so if you are going to get it on release just buy it now.
People who pre-purchase get 3 days early access before game release, and a unique ring which gives good stats for levelling.

I guess I meant paying now as opposed to paying later. Makes me wish I hadn't blown so much on the steam sales. Terrible timing with that.
Ugh, what the hell, may as well. We can call the head start and two day beta access a way of making up for the fact that classes start a week before release.

Actually, maybe I won't be buying it at all. Didn't connect the dots with the region lock thing. I'll be in North America until January, then I move to Germany for six months.

Im not really sure about region locking but im sure they are working on a solution or already have one so you wont have to wait 6 months. Hopefully Someone else in here knows something about it.

That'd be great. I'd love to play the game here and take it there with me, but if not, I'm going to wait until I come home.
Struggling to find a place to purchase a digital copy of GW2.
The main site https://buy.guildwars2.com/en/ doesn't contain the UK in it's list so I can't carry on with the purchase, am I missing something / being a total retard or what?
I am hoping we can decide on the FP home server before the transfers lock in. Most of us have blew our money on the steam sale and I cannot spare any for server transfers.
I still think anvil rock is a good idea because the combined might of us and /v/ means we won't get our faces kicked in at WvW.
Choosing a quiet server means less universal lag though.
I think I may go ahead and buy the game, and if it knocks my socks off, I'll buy it again in Germany. I'll be working and making some money, so it's not an impossible feat.

The beta starting this weekend is a full access type deal, right? Not like, just PvP or something?
I'm so stoked for the beta weekend tomorrow! (Also hoping I didn't waste 60 bucks on a game I'll hate) Not sure what class I'm gonna roll, maybe an Engineer if the pistol sounds aren't too horrible.

All of the races and classes will be available and much of the lower-mid level content will be available too. PVP and all that will still be in.

WvW is balanced so eventually we'll be fighting the servers in our range. No need to join other servers just to be able to win a small portion of the game.
So I decide to check my email:

Night, Guild Wars 2 thread. I eagerly await seeing you guys tomorrow afternoon!
Okay, I caved and bought it. Guess it's a race to see if it can finish downloading and installing by 3 PM.
This will be my first and only beta event. Gonna check out the professions that I'm most interested in before final release.

I'm in the same boat. I'm very optimistic though. Everything I've seen about the game thus far has only further sold me to the idea of playing it.

Being the alpha dodecahedron I am I'm not going to play with you dirty scrubs or join in your stupid pleb mumble. Say whatever you want but my 12 sides make me the best.
Turns out the brand new GTX 670 i got was a faulty card and I won't be able to test it out during the beta weekend, was really hoping to get in to some hugely intense WvW battles and not have my computer slow down to 0.5fps. :( guess i'll just do SPvP all weekend again
[editline]20th July 2012[/editline]
also what server is the NA guild on?

You can get a beta code off the nvidia site.
