I was dual pistols engineer for the most part, using static shot to group enemies up then using grenade barrage to hammer down the crowd before finishing up everything. The elixr that gives quickness (can't remember which it was) makes it really easy to do a bunch of burst damage, and with the grenade kit out you can wipe groups of enemies very quickly.
I think dual pistols really is the way to go. Rifle is nice and all because of its tackle ability, but it does "meh" quality damage as its auto only pierces, and no conditions are applied. Blunderbuss requires you to get too close to your target for my liking.
The overcharge shot made a lot of sense though. Newtons third law. :eng101:
Is it possible to play sPvP on the european server list when your home server is in the US?
No.

The dual pistols ability that burns requires you to be similarly close, but it doesn't bother me. Engineer has a LOT of ways to increase that distance. The personal battering ram thing for example has a ranger cripple and a knockback in one handy package.
I don't understand how some of you can deal with having to reach all the way over to 'H' for skills.
When I played thief it was real simple.
'Q' was Steal (default F1)
'E' was Heal
Shift + Q was skill 7
Shift + E was skill 8
Ctrl + Q was skill 9, and
Ctrl + E was skill 0, the Elite.
It worked wonders in PvE and PvP. Helped keep my reaction time quick, to go with the copious amounts of dodge skills that I used. I was probably a real pain to fight against.
<3 Roll for Initiative and the roll backwards heal.
Unfortunately this set up doesn't work well for classes that have more than one class skill (Guardians, Elementalists, Engineers) Works well for Warriors though. Necromancers too.

Reminds me of when I was playing WvWvW and harvesting an ore node when an Asuran engineer popped up to harass me. I just popped my Sanctuary and continued mining as I wasn't in the mood for a fight but the pesky bugger kept shooting at me. So I plop down my Wall of Reflection once I'm done with the node and just as I do he fires his net shot which obviously proceeds to bounce back into him and immobilizes him.
I just stood there for about 2 seconds and then did /laugh. It felt like I was doing that thing they do in cartoons where the tall guy holds the short guy away by his head while the short guy is doing wild swings desperately trying to hit.

Yeahhh, I used to click things, but then I started to play League of Legends and now I have an allergy to clicking.
What do you guys think about putting movement keys on ESDF instead of WASD? It gives you a whole extra column of keys you can bind on the left of your movement keys, without having it feel too different to WASD (At least it's like that on most keyboards I've used).
I've gotten used to using my numpad after playing WoW for a long while like that, though every other game I always bind to IJKL (again, lefty so I have to move anyways). I never understood the idea of using shift and control of all keys for common things like run and crouch, they're stretched so far down. I'd usually bind ; to crouch/slow walk/whatever, and ' to run. / would be prone if it's an option. [ and ] were common command bits, being my Q menus in GMod or the radio commands in battlefield and such. Since I'm a bit of a map-whore and open it often, I don't mind keeping M to map, I actually set #1 on the numpad as map (underneath 8456 as movement keys) because it's a comfortable and recognizeable position
I'll see if I can re-adjust myself on release to use ijkl again, clearly it has a massive advantage. I've never been able to set the number row keys and use them efficiently alongside it in any game though, I always operate wep switching by mouse scroll, which recently sucks because my mouse's wheel has a loose notch in it now and again and you'll either not swap or you'll pass by two or three in one tick. Gotta replace that.

And to contribute, i use a naga, so 1-5 as normal, middle mouse button was heal, num6/7/8 for utitily and numpad delete for elite, all nice and easy on the thumb, elite a little way away so i don't accidently click it.
I have two extra buttons on my mouse, so I usually use those for Ctrl and Shift modifiers pretty often.
1-5 for skills, E for heal, Ctrl 1-5 for remaining utility stuff
I use the default keybinds entirely, dohoho.
1-4 and F1-4 are pressed, the rest are clicked unless it'd be quicker for me to press them for some reason.

You use your right hand on IJKL? Cause in that case it's understandable but for people who use left hand for movement WASD and shift, ctrl, etc is the best way really to utilize the area of the keyboard.
yeah, I think this whole keybinding conversation started with me mentioning I'm lefty and have trouble with bindings. I think the ESDF setting sounded interesting for standard righties though, you get a bit more control with your pinky. Worth trying out, like I mentioned with IJKL I tend to use a lot of the keys only my pinky can reach.
I, surprisingly, don't have any trouble reaching number keys up to 8. It's only when I reach 9 and 0 that I start getting trouble hitting them fast enough. Maybe it's because I'm purely PvE and don't need the extra reaction speed or maybe it's because I play piano so my fingers are used to stretching strange distances.
I don't use ZXC because it's more uncomfortable for me to curl my fingers below WASD than it is for me to stretch my fingers up.
If I ever feel the need to press more buttons with my left pinky I will try the ESDF setting.

I remember always seeing people on reddit talking about how they were all looking forward to using this thing, and how it was so great.
I can't for the life of me figure out this thing is any better, or even as good as, the keyboard. I have one (didn't buy it, friend gave it to me because he never used it)
I made Ctrl+1,2,3,4 the class specific utility skills that appear above 1-5. 1-5 for skills, Q for self heal, E R T for utility, Z for elite. I left F alone because Autoloot

I won one of these during a competition in a games magazine once.
It sucks ass.
another terrible thing about being lefty, there's no specialty gear like that. They did come out with an ambidextrous thing like that (I think razorback) but the key bindings were badly laid out in a way that most games wouldn't accept some keys if you tried to mirror the bindings.
and don't get me started on mice, non-ergonomic mice are usually uncomfy as hell, and I've only seen one good left-hand mouse with proper ergonomics. Thankfully I've adapted a spider-grip method when working with right-ergo mice, I can even keep up with some of the button functions, again, using a pinky.
[editline]e[/editline]
come to think of it I developed into the numpad (and clicking abilities) style because at one time, I had a little wireless keyboard with a detatchable numpad. I could comfortably use that keypad in my lap and only have to reach up to my keyboard for sparsely used functions and chat

Its actually very good because it has a lot of buttons for your thumb to press other than just spacebar, but with a game like gw2 its not even slightly needed.
My keyboard has a detachable numpad. It can go on the left or right, but I've never heard of one that works wirelessly

Im sure they make a lefty naga now. Bah nvm 2013.
Hey I haven't played GW2 yet but I'm definitly preordering soon. I'm thinkin bout being sylvari or human mesmer.
What are your opinions on the mesmer? If not that I might go for ranger or engineer.

True but personally find it very uncomfortable to keep my hand on it for longer than half an hour, it's rather uncomfortable unless you spend a lot of time using it I imagine. Other than that it just doesn't feel right, the buttons are floaty and the lower ones are a bitch to reach from time to time, not to mention a few things getting in the way and overall a 'cheap' or 'gimmicky' feeling to the thing.
I can imagine this being very useful if you only have one hand to use, it's designed that way after all, but I hugely prefer a keyboard over that thing.

I am nearly 100% sure your oppinion will change once you get in the game. You have to try it before you can say which one you like the best.
I played every class except engineer or guardian. I think warrior was my favorite, but I still want to try out the guardian.
What are your opinions on the mesmer? If not that I might go for ranger or engineer.
The mesmer is more focused on making it difficult for attackers to damage you, while you can handle the crowd. Very useful for PvE. More skilled players will be able to distinguish you from your illusions in PvP.
But beware: a lot of people tend to think, for example, engineer = guns, warrior = melee, ranger = bows, thief = stealth, etc. You will soon find out this just is just not the case. Engineer does more than just guns, he has a large (read: huge) spectrum of abilities and roles he can fill. Remember, this game is not based around the holy trinity of dps, tank, and heal. All professions can fill all roles.
Right after you reach level 2, enter the mists and try out some abilities on some test dummies/npc sparring partners. You will get a feel of how your profession truly works.

Guardian has a little less health than your average warrior, but makes up for it with lots of blocking/defense abilities. Like slapping down a line of warding right as your teams keep door falls and holding off the zerg for an extra 5 seconds. Or reflecting a hail of arrows/trebuchet fireball. That is always fun. His offense abilities are okay. The virtues you get help you passively, and help most people around you when activated. (EX = Virtue of courage makes every 4th attack burn, and activating it makes you and all friendly players/npcs around you's next attack burn.

i honestly didnt realize how useful quickness is until i played a thief and set haste as one of my utility skills
i'll need to see how well it works in conjunction with rifle skills, but if it at least halves the 'cast' time of blunderbuss, then consider me sold
