Not sure what you mean by hotkey combat. You're going to have to press buttons no matter what game you're playing.
I probably phrased it wrong, I was referring to traditional MMO's having action bars that span across your entire screen full of 30+ buttons and abilities, I dislike that, I like the idea of having limited skillls that have a strong impact to them.
Well first of all you can set almost any skill to auto attack, so you don't have to continuously click it. You also have the choice to disable that feature too. The rest of the skills you obviously have to click to use and a lot of them are ground-targeted and actually produce effects you 'feel'.
Another feature I really enjoy is the auto targeting where it targets the enemy closest to you and in your general direction you are looking towards. Although you still have the ability to switch targets quickly.
You're right about there not being 108 skills per class. Each weapon gives a set of different skills to each class. You also have the ability to quickly and easily swap weapons in-combat (excluding Elementalist due to its attunements).
Then you have Utility Skills that are skills that you choose to use and these can be swapped easily out of combat. Think of choosing a deck of cards.
This was a great post, let me start off by saying.
This is basically what I'm talking about, this is the sort of combat I enjoy, thanks for clearing it up.

I really enjoy the concept behind weapons being the pinnacle of your abilities and skillset
~talk about skills
Also, keep in mind that while skills are tied to weapons, there seems to be a decent amount of build crafting with all the traits and utilities, in case you were at all worried about it being not enough.
oh man you can get zojja's armor... at level 80

I have the sneaking suspicion a handful of these armors will remove the character's hair though, I noticed with the gem store the tophat item would do that, kind of annoying
also diggin' the dark asuran weaponry

reminds me of the Sol Badguy sword

kickass
Destiny's Edge is all wearing racial tier 3 armour.

I was reading about the game world and saw that it isn't seamless, all the zones/regions are actually divided up into squares or rectangles with the player content inside and there is only one way in and out of any zone.
Can anyone confirm this? It seems like a major immersion breaker.

the areas are massive, aside from teleporting to other cities, I never left the first area through the beta. I'd rather cut from one loaded segment to another once in a long while than have to do something like how WoW trick-moved around it by having you walk down a long-ass hallway, which acted as an in-between area whilst it loaded the next large chunk; That's great, you can see sky and walk on foot from place to place, but now you've got these huge transition chunks that just take up your time walking point to point. They've upgraded that a bit but honestly I think the only people who'll bitch about breaking immersion on that aspect are the ones who are just out to bitch for any reason
oh god I love the inquest guns.
they are awesome

Thanks for the reply. Is there only one way in and out of all zones?

Some if not all open world zones have multiple ways to get in and out iirc.
Large zones have multiple exits, smaller ones like Hoelbrak may only have one. And Clyde, do you have any idea how massive some of these zones are?
Actually Hoelbrak has three: an Asuran gate to Lions Arch, a gate to Wayfarer Foothills and a gate to Dredgehaunt Cliffs.

How exactly is a portal to another zone which you theoretically only have to go through every 15 levels an immersion breaker?
Not to bash any other games, but I find riding a flying animal of some kind to my destination for 15 minutes much more of an "immersion breaker" than zones you can teleport through and taking a portal once in a while.
MY IMMERSION!!
Oh Fuck yes, I know what I'll be transmuting.

yeah, riding the stuff in WoW killed it for me because I had to go find food whilst it took me through a long scenic route, flying low through all of those transition segments I mentioned
I plan on keeping my Engineer's Panascopic Monocle that you get in the beginning for as long as I possibly can.
Thanks transmutation!

Worst thing is, it wasn't even a fast route, it'd be the slowest piece of shit ever.
Trams/Zeppelins were fun though

Oh hey, I didn't think about that! That's a good idea.

Even though it's WvW, the same rule applies to other zones.

I disagree actually, I found that riding on a gryphon to your destination added to the scale of the whole world. I like it for the same reason that I like not using fast travel in games like Skyrim and Oblivion.

I agree with that. The travel is probably the only thing i think WoW did better. I love the immersion and scale it brings to the world. Teleporting in Guild Wars 2 is very practical, but it's not really "cool". Travelling the trams/zeps was quite enjoyable.

W2cyber in trams plox.
Can anyone help me with A Time for Heroes? (The final mission in Eye of the North)
Can anyone help me with A Time for Heroes? (The final mission in Eye of the North)
Sure. What's your ingame name or Steam username?
Hey all, I was hoping to get a bit of help, i'm having a bit of an identity crisis.
I want to start this off by saying I like very survivable builds, and I found myself doing this on every class I tried. My three favorites were the Engineer, Mesmer, and Necromancer. I've decided it's between these three that i'll roll on the 25th. I played all three extensively during every BWE. Engineers did quite well with survivable builds, and they were quite fun (especially with grenades) but the underwater combat for them is a real mess and the fact they have no "corrupt boons" type skill (even though throw elixir c SHOULD be that, it'd fit perfectly...) really bothers me as those skills are wayyy underrated and I when I used them on the Mesmer (Arcane Thievery is really really good, try it instead of Null Field) and Necro they always lead to a kill. However, I don't really like the look of medium armor from what i've seen in endgame and that also bothers me. With the mesmer, they're very cool and unique but even with a survivable build they're a bit squishy for my tastes. Everything else was awesome, they have the best teammate revival skill in the game by miles. Necromancer definitely satisfied my survivability hunger, they had all that and more, I could live against 2+ (short term 3+) people for as long as I wanted and I could be a point defender king. However, I did almost zero damage and was basically boon/condition control duty 24/7.
Do you guys have any insight or advice? I'd love to hear your opinons about these three classes and their survivability builds that can still dish out some damage.
Also, secondary question, what was the most annoying build you fought in BWE3? Besides spirit weapon guardians, they were bugged and don't count.
You are talking about PvP, right?
Yes, in PvE i enjoyed all three classes equally.

Engineer has multiple ways to confront an enemy, the name of the game is preparation. If you are fighting a melee, keep at range with net/glue shot and simply gun them down. Blowtorch and blunderbuss if they get in your face. Overcharged shot keeps the gap between you and your opponent far. Use it when they get into an unwanted close range fest and if net shot is still on CD. Grenades are to be used against multiple opponents, and flamethrower for a "furball" fight when it is a big mess with no clear line of battle.
Mesmer is straightforward in pve. Clones will keep the mobs off of you, so only sacrifice them when said mob is about to die for a finisher. In PvP use clones as a distraction if you get in trouble. Use a stealth ability and break LOS. They will be too busy killing your clones to find you, and if they do realize you are not in the fight anymore, you will be long gone.
Necromancer is used to fill everyone's screen with conditions, use this along with minions and your flexible weapon skills to mould your fighting ability and style as you see fit.
Learn what each elite skill does, and learn when is the proper time to use it.
For survivability, take note of the passive stat bonus each tree gives you, so for example, choose an offensive ability in a tree that gives health/durability for a neat mix, and vice versa.

Pistol thief, and "attack of the clones" mesmer because of targeting issues and blinds.
Can't really help you there because I don't PvP. Ask my anything about PvE, but I'm clueless about PvP! Although I do plan on doing a lot of WvW.
I'm currently applying to join the RAF and I don't know how long the process takes before I'm fully joined.
God help me if it's anywhere near the release of GW2 I'll flip shit.
9 years of no GW2
