Could probably add this into the OP, it's a huge post on all the information gathered on GW2. Quite Amazing:

Some of the info overlaps, so I'll look through it and see what is important that isn't in this OP.

Oh hell no you're not fucking up GW2 with your stupid shit M$.
This seems to happen a lot.
"Games for Windows" is just saying that the game is for windows PCs.
"Games for Windows Live" is that relatively annoying distribution/drm/etc. service that Microsoft tried to use.

"GamesForWindows" and "GamesForWindowsLive" are two different things.
"GamesForWindows" is basically just another way to say "PC DVD" .

My vision turns red whenever I see that label, I can't differentiate between them.
Plus even the normal GamesForWindows always pushes box art away or covers it up, making cases/boxes look ugly as fuck.

I hope so :I
We hadn't been talking about it because we didn't want to get too ahead of ourselves and set things up too soon.
Also, can we have different guilds on different characters now? I can't remember.

Yes you can. I'm hoping this comes out in the next few months, can't really be sure though. Just hoping that it comes out this year and not 2013.
I feel a lot of evidence is pointing to a release around June. I doubt April, and May is stretching it. Closed beta will go on till February at least, then Open Beta will be announced and could start around March(or April) or late Feb.

Begin speculation.
Well that image isn't real.
Either that or it was removed before I got a look at it. :v:

Apparently that's the story. It was up for around 25 seconds then went down quickly when steam updated the store today.
That image took me a while to notice it.
I'm glad it will probably be on steam, but I wonder if it will be like Skyrim, and only on Steam even if you get retail.

I don't think so, since Guild Wars 2 will be FTP

But you still have to buy the game. I'm not sure what you mean
But you still have to buy the game. I'm not sure what you mean
Devs see steam as piracy protection and as a sales outlet.
With Guild Wars 2 you will need a registered arena net account with Guild Wars 2 on it. With that said why have it strictly on steam other then as a download service?

You just raised my hopes and then dashed them, but I'm looking to see if this is really real or fake.

You have to buy it... and why not? GW1 is on steam.
Also steam has got several FTP titles now...

I'm sure Steam gives some kind of incentive for it, since Valve will be making more. So, why not? There are a bunch of other MMOs on Steam.
Personally I wouldn't mind steam integration, I'll probably end up getting a physical copy though, Guildwars is one of the rare franchises I prefer to buy physically.
Same, probably the collectors edition, but I do really love steam and would love if it was integrated to Guild Wars 2.
please, because this really gets me
FTP = Free to play = dont have to pay money at all to play it
GW2 = non subscription based mmo = pay for the game once and only once
now can we stop calling it FTP and instead question why its using the original gw2 symbol in the steam screenshot?

April? I've got finals damnit.

To be frank, I would rather not have steamworks integration. Guild Wars had its own integrated patching system so I expect GW2 to have one as well. Steam's auto-updating would be unnecessary. Then there's also the fact that you would have to be required to have steam online to play it. If it goes down for any reason then there goes our ability to play it.
I put up with these services since they have games I like on them, and while they're convenient, I'd rather have my stuff not be required to have some middleware that I have no control over.
[editline]9th January 2012[/editline]
I'm fine if they digitally sell it and allow people to use steam features such as chat with it, but I would not want steam to be required to play it.

I can't see them integrating steam as a required service for this game. It would be a clusterfuck with all of the NCSoft launcher crap.
Global Agenda is a good example of an annoying launcher.
I lost one of my favorite shirts, a Guild Wars shirt, and ended up ordering another one.
Yesterday the old shirt just randomly showed up.
Nobody knows where it was hiding.

I think I heard someone else tell a story really similar to that in the last thread. Spooky.
