• Why do people prefer UT2004 over UT3?

Reasons: 1) UT2004 was more versatile. Mutant, Assault, Invasion, Bombing Run, Double Domination, all the different ways to play. Plus the whole "mutator" aspect was gone - you can't do a match where everyone is using a Flak Cannon, or where damaging someone heals you, or make the game move at half speed. 2) UT2004 was faster. UT3 feels slow, at least in comparison. Slower pace, slower movement, slower combat. 3) More things. UT2004 has many more maps and more weapons. 4) Infantry combat was still viable, even on vehicle maps. UT3 focused too much on vehicle combat. 5) Art style. UT3 looks like a blur, a mess. It's too brown, dark and "real". This is Unreal - high-contrast visuals make for faster target identification, which is essential for the fast combat gamers want from Unreal. I will say one thing good about UT3: the hoverboard was a good idea. A very good idea.
I still play UT2004, it just seems to be more fun.

Also, ChaosUT was never finished for UT3.
UT2004 was amazing. I remember playing it for hours and hours, and having a great time. I might reinstall it, I still have the 6 discs somewhere.
More maps, mutators, gamemodes, characters, teams, no bullshit shoehorned story, and I don't like the visual style of UT3.
Because it's actually playable online with more than 50 ping without noticeable lag on everything (I'm looking at you, Pulse Gun). Because of the THOUSANDS of maps and mods available. Because I can disable start up videos and have the amazing UT2003 Tune play on the menu instead. Oh the times of UT2003, playing instant gib rat sized maps all day long, such as DM_Bedroom, DM_Bedroom2, DM_Bedroom3 and so on. Shame the community ruined UT2004, nearly every server is some assault trial map, Invasion RPG or the same old instant gib map. I've played the game at release and to this day there are still some maps I haven't played. Stock maps. I remember the days of UT99 on Dreamcast, and Unreal. But community, why you never play Bombing Run, or Last Man Standing. I am forced to enjoy these with bots. They are actually pretty fun to play, on the maps no one ever plays. I must reinstall ut2004, but lost my disc. I had four copies.
Assault. Hands down.
Now I feel like reinstalling Ut2004. I'm installing it but i can't find my 2nd disk. :ohdear:

UT2004 has a sense of humour (remember that assault map set in australia), and also Assault and Onslaught were awesome. (Yes I know Warfare is basically the same thing but FUCK the orb). I still like UT3 though, mostly because of the hoverboards.
