5 hours is an intro? Hahahaha, no.
A game should introduce most of its combat elements within the first one or two hours. And yes, FF13 was complete ass until the combat system decided to not suck as much, and the game was still bad.
5 hours is not an unacceptable length for an intro for a game that is 40-50 hours long.
5 hours is an unacceptable length intro for a game that is 10 hours long.
Because the beginning of the game is totally unbearable and it's not even playable until then.
=/
You're well within your rights to dislike a game, but you're talking as if it's absolute poison to play to begin with, which is bullshit.
Can't stand a game with an intro? go back to CoD.
The story was intriguing and mysterious in the intro, i'll admit - it's what kept me playing long enough to get through the opening parts. Because goddamn, every single fight up until Paradigm Shifts basically consisted of waiting for the time gauge to fill, hitting Attack, rinse and repeat with the occasional potion. For five hours. Ironically, all the battles up until that point don't even form half an hour because of how fast they are and how much story is packed on you.
It's like Deus Ex's opening level - hard to get into and what tends to turn people away, but once you get past it you find a damn good game.

The first level is good, it's more just people don't understand the game at first, but I know what you're saying anyway.
I agree with the boring fights at the start though. It's so uneventful I really can't remember anything that happened.
I really don't think anybody is complaining about good long intros, it's just that FF13 is one of the worst examples to make a point about it over.

And that 5 hour intro is just that. An intro. The tutorial doesn't stop until after four times that amount. It beat Kingdom Hearts 2 for the award of "Longest Prologue Ever"

The only people who have complained about the intro have only complained that the length is flat out too long.
I miss turn-based Final Fantasy...
I hope they actually keep the combat system the same. things relied on actual timing instead of just having 2 attack 1 heal spam until everything is dead.
I miss turn-based Final Fantasy...
I despise it. "LOL I R SUPAH BOSS SO I GET 2 GO TWICE N FUK UR SHIT UP"
how about making games that don't suck
arent they helping work on deus ex
arent they helping work on deus ex
yeah, they "helped" make supreme commander 2 also.

How about we all talk about how Final Fantasy 14 was a complete bomb that has cemented square enix's position as king of the shitty RPGs?

Didn't it fail to bring in many players so bad that it's on its fourth month without a monthly fee now?
In 30 years people will be talking about how Final Fantasy XXXVVIII will be coming out for the PS720.
why are we releasing dozens of Playstations a year?
Trailer was blocked, here's the video again:

I thought they issued a public apology and a refund of all paid subscriptions until they improved the game to the point of being playable.

Quite an achievement, I know.
Kingdom hearts is the sign that they should just stop. The fanfiction run plot and the absolute bullshit that series crams out is simply mindboggling. One look at the entire plot of KH tells you that they lost their marbles so why are they even trying to do a serious plot.
Also for the record I despise kingdom hearts. HEY GUYS LETS GIVE THE MAIN CHARACTER NEW CLOTHES AND KEEP RENAMING HIM. NEW CHARACTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALSO THEY ARE ALL GAY BTW
Eh, it only started to go downhill after KH2. When they started to become emo angsty teenagers wearing zippers.
Why don't they make more of the Nashna Ni Game. (based on the Ring)
Final Fantasy X-2 was shit, my sister got it, and I played it as well, never played it again, due to that fucking time limit mission at the start. I mean really, this is suppose to be a final fantasy game at most.
Oh and the redemption for Tidus is that he was a dream of the past from the Fayth for Yuna.

A dream of the past, from the Fayth, for Yuna?
What?

Minor derail once again but hey look who's getting ANOTHER sidestory to muck up the stupid ass plot. This enforces exactly what I was saying

[sp]SPOILERS*
Tidus did NOT travel in time. He is in the same time period as Yuna and the rest of the party. He came to Spira via Sin (becoming "more than a dream" when he touched Sin [like Jecht], as stated by the Bahamut Fayth).
Tidus's Zanarkand, as shown in the Ultimeca Omega, is near Baaj Temple, but unknown to most (if not all) of Spira. This is being summoned by Yu Yevon, who resides in Sin. As Dream Zanarkand is a bigger Aeon than any other Aeon, it requires a huge fayth to summon something so big. This is where the Gagazet Fayth comes into it.
The Gagazet Fayth was citizen's of Zanarkand that survived a war between Zanarkand and Bevelle. Using these remaining citizens, Yu Yevon created the Gagazet Fayth, which was to be used for Dream Zanarkand. To protect himself, Yu Yevon used a Gravity spell to bring pyreflies together to make his armour, Sin. Giving Sin basic commands, Sin could act to protect Yu Yevon and Dream Zanarkand by destroying any machina or place that people gather in groups. Yu Yevon could then focus on summoning Dream Zanarkand, using the powers of the Gagazet Fayth and the dreams of the other, normal Fayth's (like the Bahamut Fayth).

Copypasta.
I hated the combat system of 8. Every time I try to play through it and finally beat it, I get tired of that damn combat system. It's soooo tedious.
And Chrono Trigger fucking rocks.

:wtc:? I knew FFX was a bit on the odd side, but just how the hell did they come up with all of this?
IX was best final fantasy :downs:
[sp]I really liked it...[/sp]
IX was great. It's a shame it is overlooked.
You know what hasn't been touched since it's release? Secret of Evermore.
I'm fucking waiting Square Enix.
I'm also waiting for current-gen recreations of 4-9 (hell, I'd take XIII and IX), no more of this releasing 20 PSP, iOS, and GBA ports.

Ever heard of Seiken Densetsu 3? Technically it was the second Secret of Mana game, made directly by Squaresoft. However, instead of bringing it to the western market like they did with the first game, they put a completely seperate and amateur team over here to make an alternative game. For good or bad (although it seems you liked it), Secret of Evermore was the result. Considering the japanese branch creates everything now, the chances of a continuation are unlikely.
It was amazing, and yes, I know all about it's creation. I can still hope a little...

To be fair to X-2, the story is mind numbing brain cancer inducing drivel, but the actual Gameplay is quite good.
You know what hasn't been touched since it's release? Secret of Evermore.
You know what they didn't since half way through it's development? Xenogears
You know what one of their best games is? Xenogears.

They're all fine, and 4 does have a current gen recreation on the DS. It's good too.
They need to go back to Xenogears and actually finish the fucking thing.
but the actual Gameplay is quite good.
And in this example, good does not equal hard. Catnip ruins that in four seconds.
I going out on limb here and going to assume that the only gameplay in this will be the "Press start" button at the title screeen
