critlyn, to be completely honest was a joke build that i was planning on making which turned out to be extremely devastating when executed correctly. yes, the abundance of crits and the lack of damage with her skills does in fact turn her into a ranged autoattacker. even when playing ad caitlyn, i would barely rely on my skills for damage, even though they did significantly more than if i had been building critlyn.
1. i find most of her abilities useless in terms of damage anyways, as like you said her Q skill scales extremely poorly. her ult still does it's job, though.
2. i actually find my early game strong, but this might not be the same for everyone. i have none of my hp quints so i'm stuck at about the 400 hp range. i don't find this an issue at all, because adding 100 hp with a doran's item wouldn't make that much of a difference in terms of survivability in early game.
3. since i build regular ad items (brutalizer, bf/ie) before i even start thinking about getting criticals, i'll still be dealing pretty regular damage when the first pd rolls in. i don't rely on crits at all until late game, when everyone would be eons ahead of me in terms of dps if i had been rolling with ad
4. that's why i need to build a second pd, to increase both my critical chance and attack speed even further.

Or you can play crit Ashe/Tristana and be legendary while having useful skills
thats the basics of it.
there are better physical casters
there are better carries
thus, caitlyn is not viable as opposed to other characters

Even though Ryze and Kassadin are both nukes mages, they have very different playstyles

yeah i'm playing irelia/vlad a lot more than caitlyn.. it's a shame that i saved up for her.

Played a practice game with an AS Irelia who wrecked everything. She had to leave though, so we lost.

You'd probably increase your damage output by getting a Last Whisper with that IE. You may not think that 100 hp makes much of a difference, but think about it, long sword is 10 damage for 415 gold, while doran blade is 100 hp, 8 damage, and 6 lifesteal for 435.

i'm actually about to try a game where i get the last whisper instead of a brutalizer at the beginning, and i'm also going to try starting with the doran's blade instead

Blitzcrank, Dr. Mundo, Garen, Gragas, Malphite, Olaf, Sion and Udyr are all solid picks off the top of my head

Played my first normal match, chose Shen. We won. One of our tanks, some kind of giant fat dwarf that threw kegs of beer, disconnected mid-game and we had to fight them 4v5, but it was a good victory. Ended up with a somewhat even score of 7 kills and 8 deaths + some assists.

Also shen is a tank so assist matter more than your kills. Unless of course you play him AP or DPS.
