Got any tips for a very very new player? I've played very little matches but I think I'm starting to get the hang of the principles a bit (people ingame were quite friendly).

Very very new aka never played any MOBAs?
Play the tutorial, and play with easier champions before venturing out into champions unknown. (Ashe, Annie, Ryze).
Watch some videos online, follow some guides online before doing your own thing, friend people who know what they're doing and ask them questions.

This, but having an experienced buddy will help you learn a lot faster.

Like I said, I'm familiar with the basics and played a few matches, 10 or something.
I already looked up quite a few champion guide (always do so when I experiment with a new champion) and I watched a few videos. And yes, I did the tutorial.
I'm just wondering if there are a few things I should know when ingame, like is there any kind of special-y chat shortcuts, things you should always do no matter what, etc etc.
Map awareness
Don't overextend
Last hit
Look at minimap
Wait for the right moment to attack, pushing your lane or chasing your enemy just to do one hit extra does not help you win the game.
