If you have a bow and lots of arrows, it will be no problem. Just shoot any incoming fireballs, and the ghasts when you have a spare chance.

I got mine in 08 and it runs minecraft fine. It wasn't even that expensive.
My friend hosted a good Minecraft server that started to get popular and the asshole that hosted it, closed it and fucked off without no reason.

It amazes me how we relay on so much stuff for SMP to be playable. Yet notch seems to not care as much and leaves others to make stuff with no mod support at all. Why has he been adding all this new stuff to the game when he should be focusing on the main problem here. Mod support. If he adds mod support and quickly then we won't have to worry about hey0's mod (as much) or others people's plugins for hey0's mod (as much). It just amazes me how he had put this off for so long.
Plus on top of that we can get new and exciting player made stuff that just might add some fun to the game when we get board with what notch adds.
