How does the spider climb? does it get on vertical with your wall or it goes jumping up?

Didn't notice there was an update, was swimming to my underwater cavern house and a squid comes out of no where oh my god I shat myself.

Is there any special way to find ores? Or do i have to keep mining on random spots and hope that i find them?
