Well, 1 is my favorite. And pretty much one of the only ones I like, because anything IV and after is super story focused and weird.

I really do like the Final Fantasy plots though for the ones that have a proper plot. I think FF9 ish is where FF goes downhill but the newest one looks promising even if it does look like weeaboos made it.
weeaboos lol im not tolling it's all fucken truth
You aren't funny or clever. Stop wasting your time. Everyone else in this thread is ignoring you, because you're an awful troll. After this post I will stop feeding you and you will be forgotten, and then you'll have to find a more productive use for your time then trolling threads on the internet.
Definitely 7. Also, none of the Final Fantasy games are in a series, each of their stories are totally independant from each other so it doesn't really matter where you start from. You will probably be mindfucked by the weird creatures and the story but believe me, playing the others will get you no backstory at all.
FF1-6 are actually similar in plot, though you are right that they aren't tide together in anyway. FF7 was the first to make a drastic change in plot while keeping the FF feel. From what I understand anyways. Having played FF3 and seen videos of 1 2 and 4, they all seem to revolve around the worlds crystals being harmed or something. FF7 (again haven't played it but I have seen the movie) seems to revolve around a company exploiting the earths energy for their own use, while killing the earth.
FF8 was my fucking favorite. [sp] That assassination plot was out of the RPG stereotype by a long shot. I loved the story in the game. [/sp]

It's a shame they cut out some classes like red mage, white mage, black mage, knight, lancer
FF7 (again haven't played it but I have seen the movie) seems to revolve around a company exploiting the earths energy for their own use, while killing the earth.
Yeah it's pretty much like that, but [sp]it changes drastically after a while, and the evil corporation becomes a secondary opponent[/sp]. But yeah, it's always the planet being harmed in one way or another.
Man I loved Final Fantasy. I have been really wanting to replay FF7 and FFX. I suggest you start with FF7
Out of all the 2D ones 6 was the best imo.
Start off with Final Fantasy X-2. It's the best.
You can also get the FF anthology for PSX, I have it and it's 3, 4 and 5 (I think). The 2D final fantasies are A LOT harder than the 3D ones (FF7+) [editline]06:08PM[/editline] I love the huge world in 8, also giant cactaur and king tonberry
FF Anthology has 5 and 6. Which IMO were the best out of the series.
FF7 is awful. Cloud is a horrible hero and Sephiroth is a terrible villan. However, Tifa and Barret are pretty cool. I would recommend still playing it anyway. However, if you could, I'd suggest starting at III and go all the way to X and stop. Make sure to play the Japanese III as well.
You only really need to play one or two Final Fantasies, since they are mostly rehashes of one another. Play Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy X, I'd say they were the most original ones.
I suggested FFX because he asked for PS2. I myself enjoyed it.
Unfortunately I have only played the PSX final fantasies, I never really liked PS2 or PS3s that much, but FF would be the one thing that I would buy one for
Try 1 that number is first of a series :D
Try 1 that number is first of a series :D
It isn't a series :P
FFVIII, best one of the series.
Start with 1, the remastered one for PS1 will work on PS2.
Out of all the 2D ones 6 was the best imo.
Yeah, I loved the music in 6.
FFVIII, best one of the series.
This. 8 and 7 were the best 3D FFs
This. 8 and 7 were the best 3D FFs
I'd give an advantage to 8, since it just felt more realistic then the other ones. Screw Catgirls in the later ones, I enjoyed my soldiers storming a beach whilst being shelled, it felt far more Modern then the other ones.
Quick summary of the two best Final Fantasies in my opinion: What to expect in 7: -Lego graphics (To be expected, as the game is quite old. At the time the graphics were actually top notch) -Long, deep, occasionally confusing story -Incredibly detailed and intricate character backgrounds/plots -LOTS of sequels/prequels -Lots of time killing side missions, stories, and secrets -One of those games where you can't help but investigate the story further even after beating it (For example, did you know the Japanese FF7 had a Sephiroth clone you could get in your party? It's true!) What to expect in 8: -Huge graphics jump from 7 -Story line not of the usual RPG flavor (In a good way) -Huge open world -SHITLOAD of secrets (Holy shit nostalgia wave...) -Can get somewhat cheesy/corny at times ('Specially near the end) 9 is pretty good too, but I felt that it was more on par with 1-6 (Rescue the princess!). 10 is also good, but the story isn't quite as developed as previous FF's, but it's still worth playing. 10-2 is thought of as one of the worst FF's since it's pure fanservice, but worth a shot if you're bored and liked 10. 11 is an MMO so not much story there, and I have yet to play 12, so can't tell ya much about that one.
I think making a MMO as a seperate plot was a bad move. I know the final fantasy style is that none of the games are related plotwise but for an MMO I think they should have based it on one of the previous FF worlds since you don't get much backstory from an MMO and players would be familiar with the lore like in Warcraft, where because players are already familiar to the previous WC world they actually feel like the world is changing in game.
Final Fantasy X.
Lol. No.
Play FFVII and then FFX [editline]11:09PM[/editline] Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! [editline]11:10PM[/editline] Never play XII, horrible. God damn it is so bad. [editline]11:10PM[/editline] Never play XII, horrible. God damn it is so bad.

I really hope that FFXIII will be nothing like XII. I heard it's combat system is similar to X-2's which was pretty fun. Even if you thought X-2 was silly, it's combat was pretty rad.
FF7 is one of the best know (as this thread shows very well). FF1 is good if you want a basic game (save the princess, then go fix the world, then kill an evil über-god). FF6 is also pretty cool, because the story is interesting, there are parts where your party divides (this can play out very well if you balance each group right), and it's long enough that you don't feel like you wasted your money.
FF8 was great because you were a student and your assignments were to fucking destroy. Im p baked.
