Cant compare it.
I'd have to say STALKER, Oblivion's great and all but it only gets awesome with mods and the fact that they are mods means they are really buggy sometimes but it lasts much longer because of the sheer scale of the world. STALKER has better Vanilla gameplay (though the patches are 100% necessary) but the mods it has transform it into one of the greatest games of all time.
Word dictionary: Vanilla Gameplay: You play the game without any 3rd party modification, Only patches and DLC created the the original creator Just in case before someone is wondering what it is and uses google and is distracted and googles porn
The mods make Oblivion. If you're not going to mod it, then get STALKER. Both are excellent games, but the sheer size of the mod community for Oblivion gives it an ungodly amount of replay value.
Just to let you guys know, I prefer Vanilla gameplay over mods. Not saying I wouldn't play one, but the chance of me using one is pretty low. I asked a few friends about STALKER and they said it's the best $20 they have ever spent. I don't have any friends who play Oblivion. :S
There are some shining gems amidst SHoC's many mods, namely SHOC 2009(think thats right) which is a monstrously huge mod, adding cut weapons, features and vastly improving graphics.
Thinking about it I can't find any good mods for Oblivion anyways, just a bunch of "sexy armor" mods or useless things. So I change my vote to STALKER By the way, Don't get Stalker: Call of Pripyat, because it's boring as fuck
oblicion
both are kinda buggy and unpolished in their own special way without mods. if you like shooting and/or realism, go for STALKER. if you like fantasy, swordplay, and/or a more RPG-ish experience, go for Oblivion. though as a fan of both, I'd recommend that if you're going to get ANY Elder Scroll game, you might want to check out Morrowind instead. the combat's annoying, but it's more in-depth and expansive than Oblivion. and if you're going to get ANY STALKER game, you might want to check out Call of Pripyat instead, because it's more polished and the sidequests are more in-depth and compelling. and it has free-play at the end.
Oblivion, or better yet, Morrowind.
Wow, a 50/50 split down the line, awesome! I'd have to say Oblivion though, it's more fluid and forgiving IMO.
Vote goes for Stalker. If you like a challenge, this is the game for you. Sure it may not look as good as Oblivion (If your playing it un-modded), but it has a certain charm of it's own.

Just kills the atmosphere for me, but the other parts of it are worth it.
