I love achievements. They're so simple yet add so much replayability to a game. For example, Hl2:ep2, carrying that fucking garden gnome. [editline]12:00AM[/editline]
Steamworks achievements are really the only Pc achivements that are recorded and shown to all.
Windows Live Games (GTAIV) had that too.
With the help of V.
In A vehicle on B time. I wonder how much more we can go. Also, achievements can be fun or frustrating, collection achievements aren't necessarily frustrating since they can be like in Batman: Arkham Asylum that you get a map. In my opinion all collectibles should have something like that. If you want a example of bad achievements, just look at Fallout 3.
This, but no one actuallu enjoys those Vidmaster achievments for Halo 3.
Bullshit am i not going to complete the whole campain online/solo style while not firing one shot or grenade on Legendary
I like getting achievements but I don't ever check which ones I've gotten or who has what or try to get certain ones.
I do not understand this Achievements =/= Skill stigmata. If a achievement is especially difficult and is quite a feat to get then I do not see how the obtainer of the achievement can be called "Unskilled". [editline]02:26AM[/editline] Also, I don't find PC achievement sprrticularly as satisfying as I find Achievement son the 360 or Trophies on the PS3. Well World of Warcraft had some satisfying pop ups! [editline]02:29AM[/editline] Achevements have been around forever! Just now we get pop ups and a lo of them. What is the difference of getting all orbs in crackdown or joker teeth as apposed to Stars in Super Mario 64? [editline]02:32AM[/editline] I'm also not saying your ammount of achevements is your skill. But difficult ones do say something.
I like achievements because they add a little bit more to the game and they can keep me playing a game long after I normally would have quit.
This guy is some sort of professor! Quick, fetch him a hat!
Yes, please do, but make that be a TF2 hat.
SOME achievements are cool and stuff to strive for, but there is a fine line between going an extra mile to get an achievement and spending 10 hours running around the map to find 200 little items.
Yep. Like Mile High Club vs Find All Diamonds and Scout All Outposts.
I'm also not saying your ammount of achevements is your skill. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=810224 It happened to me too, on the achievement Safety First.
Achievements are completely immersion breaking. I don't want to be reminded that I'm playing a game
I don't use them to show off. I use them to feed my achievement addiction...Blame steam...

One guy I know has got like 11k of gamerscore in XBL, He just plays lots of games and doesn't bother about achievements. This other guy is trying to beat him, he's got 9kish and every game he's bought (only about 9 or 10) He has tried and I think nearly succeeded in getting all the achievements. He re-bought COD4 after trading it in for a few months just to get the last two achievements on it. :colbert:
One guy I know has got like 11k of gamerscore in XBL, He just plays lots of games and doesn't bother about achievements.
Thats sounds like what I do. I mostly just play, and I am happy when I get an achievement by just doing that. Sometimes, I go out of my way to get achievements, but I mostly just play.
I think world of warcraft did a good job of adding acheivements in, They reward the casual player for every ten levels they get, for exploring zones and the like, while they also have achievements to kill the hardest bosses without anybody dying if every game could find that balance i think the gaming world would be a much better place
Achievements were a good idea because they give you something to do when the game just doesn't feel like it was before. Also ever since achievements, i can't really play others games now  Oh and multiplayer, i can't look a singleplayer game in the face and play it 1,000 times over like i used to [editline]02:05PM[/editline]
One guy I know has got like 11k of gamerscore in XBL, He just plays lots of games and doesn't bother about achievements. I think achievements can be fun, but a lot of people take them way too seriously. I never farm for achievements, that's just stupid. Some people are like "There's these new achievements, i have to get them ASAP or else this game is no fun", but when i get an achievment, i think "Holy shit, i managed to do something awesome!" My only experience with achievements is With Orange box games though, but i can imagine the situation isn't much different with the console games.
I love achievements. They're so simple yet add so much replayability to a game. For example, Hl2:ep2, carrying that fucking garden gnome.
Shit man, I was trying to do that today, and i accidentally dropped him down a pit and it fucking autosaved a millisecond afterwards, and I didn't have any backup saves. I was so pissed.
My bro whores GTA IV Xbox achievments, even though he doesn't have Silver or Gold membership.
it's nice to get a pop-up in the moment letting you know you achieved something. i never use them for gloating or anything at all after the first and only view, i don't farm them i just rejoice in those i bump into. (although sniping Arkansas at minefield in fallout 3 through the head with a hunting rifle at 250 feet distance REALLY NEEDS AN ACHIEVEMENT! since i've done that 2 times now, talk about lucky like fuck) violent forum wars on achievements is about as stupid as gloating at how you could spit a guy in the neck from the third floor. but then again, violent forum wars on any topic usuallu is. i really like how they give a sence of achievement in the moment, but that's it. it's a very welcome feature and i like them there as a subtle feature.
it's nice to get a pop-up in the moment letting you know you achieved something
No it isn't, it completely ruins any immersion the game achieved.
No it isn't, it completely ruins any immersion the game achieved.
maaan, your attention span sucks...
For me achievements add replay value. It's still more fun to replay with a new/different goal.
fuck! stupid automerge and wrong postbox!
Ill be the first to admit i get a warm, fuzzy feeling whenever i see an achevment unlocked, but i'm not going to pretend it shows i'm skilled. I think it brings out that little OCD-bit in all of us, that throws away usless change and has to make sure a crisp packet is empty before throwing it away.
