Because those 5 FPS are totally worth the extra $75 you had to spend on the card.
You'd be surprised at how significant 5 FPS is if you are treading on the 20-30 FPS range. The difference is huge if you're playing on a PhysX enabled game.
Aw damn my friend got this for free with windows 7. I want it now :(
You can't go "beyond", you can only go different.
Give it time, in a few decades we'll have games that look SO real, WE'LL become the game. :tinfoil:
Because most games are built on and optimized for Nvidia cards.
Phahaha, since when?
Phahaha, since when?
Nvidia's market share is much bigger than AMD's, so it's very probable that he's right (though it's not as visible as it was during the 8000-series).
Fuck, I can't wait until I get this with my 5870 at christmas, looks fucking awesome.
Cause the new nvidia cards will be out by the time I decide to upgrade.
Enjoy your $900 cards
Ooooh shiny. So will my 4870x2 actually run it in DX11? Or do I need an actual DX11 card. I'm wondering since there's been word of DX11 being compatible with DX10 cards.
Enjoy your $900 cards
Am I the only one finding that ATi fanboys are getting more obnoxious than their Nvidia counterparts? I think it's because they have been repressed for a long time (especially under the Nvidia 8000-series) due to Nvidia having a larger market share than ATi, and therefore they have a greater need to vent their angst against Nvidia than Nvidia fanboys (against ATi in case of Nvidia fanboys). That said Nvidia fanboys are just as bad, they just seem to be less "active" lately.
That water didn't look that good. I mean, it looked good, but What the fuck, a car at 100mph causing a small wave? WHERE'S THE SPLASH?
Enjoy your $900 cards
Price doesn't really bother me, when I'm buying something that I know and love. And 900 is a bit, off.
If you think it looks perfect, you need glasses or new eyes.
I wish I had 20x20 vision. I've got like, 0.5x0.5 vision right now. I can't see the bloody screen without glasses
How is the fucking flag model triangle count releated to directX? I remember those stupid commercials which said that Crysis will have DX10 exclusive effects. But i could enable them with 3 console commands on my DX9 card on winXP ---___---
The whole directx thing is stupid
It's all about opengl!
That water didn't look that good. I mean, it looked good, but What the fuck, a car at 100mph causing a small wave? WHERE'S THE SPLASH?
They have to do most of the splash effect with good ol'-fashioned particles.
Ooooh shiny. So will my 4870x2 actually run it in DX11? Or do I need an actual DX11 card.
Uhm, yeah. You need a DX 11 card.
does direct x like optomize the graphics so it runs better or what? What does direct X actually do?
looks pretty good
does direct x like optomize the graphics so it runs better or what? What does direct X actually do?
DirectX is just a standard so people can code in one way for every card. Before stuff like DirectX or DirectSound devs had to code for specific cards. Granted there weren't that many back then, but DirectX made it much easier. Same with OpenGL except OpenGL runs on all platforms.
Does anyone notice the particle effects on the water when the car drives through? Really? Dx11 is just another sales pitch to upgrade your card so the Graphics Card businesses can continue to make money.

[editline]03:34PM[/editline] And it isn't like the developers of DX11 made that particle effect in this particular game. They didn't. The developers of the GAME made the effect.

I'm not a game developer, so besides the whole "Can you do any better argument" do you have anything meaningful to say to counter my point? What I'm saying is, you can work with the current Direct X to bring the same EXACT effects into games. Their pitching Dx11 with this in order to sell more new cards, so people feel the need to upgrade, because they need the latest Dx11 Driven card. Also, how many people still have Dx9? Until that number is VERY few, they shouldn't release another Direct X.
Also, how many people still have Dx9? Until that number is VERY few, they shouldn't release another Direct X.
Oh I'm sorry for pressing on with technology. Perhaps we should wait for you to catch up before working on anything new.

What I was saying about you doing better was not an offer directed solely towards you, it was an offer towards anyone to do better. You are telling me that they shouldn't upgrade to a higher direct x version JUST BECAUSE ONE GAME CHOSE TO USE PARTICLE EFFECTS? Are you fucking serious? What about all of the OTHER improvements besides that ONE thing?? Directx 9 is old. Really old. We can do better, so why are you saying that we shouldn't? Your only arguments is because of the fact that one game has splashes made out of particles. That was a game developers decision, and has nothing to do with directx. You are also acting like it is a bad thing that the developers of technology are getting money. I fail to see how this is bad. Them getting more money = them developing even BETTER technology. How is this bad in any way?
aww god dammit! ive only just upgraded to vista and a 9800! fiddlesticks........

Fuck. I'm still using DX9.
Because most games are built on and optimized for Nvidia cards.
Lets just eliminate your entire family from the gene pool. Also, that game is already pissing me off. It's so Chavtastic. Colin would be disappointing.
