I've been playing violent video-games since I was 5 or 6 and I'm not violent, sick or anti-social.
I belive it's ok for kids to play violant games, if they have parents that teach them what is wrong and right.
I may have a violent mind due to shooting virtual soldiers, but I could never have the heart to kill anyone at all, let alone hurt people. I'm half-pacifist, half-aggressive.
I think it's alright for them to play, but as long as they don't start screaming or using a microphone
I don't mind children playing games as long as they try to be mature individual.
 OP.
I don't mind children playing games as long as they try to be mature individual.
What the fuck does that even mean?
1- Parents shouldn't even LET their kids play games they aren't old enough for.
The ratings are still subjective, whether reviewed by some bullshit organization or reviewed by the parent. I know my children will be allowed to play even violent games, as long as the context makes sense.
2- Any SMART kid would know that games are fake and they wouldn't get violence from the games. And if the kid isn't smart enough to know that, the parents deprive them and they're potential suicide victims.
Very simple: you teach your children what's real and what isn't. It helps if you play with or watch them and point out that it's just a game.
3- Most "violence from video games" is actually caused by parents not caring enough about their child and the child building up anger because of the deprivation.
I have no idea where you're going with this.
4- Some parents say that video games teach kids stuff they shouldn't know. But kids have a right to know whatever the hell they want. Kids may be young, and not able to take care of themselves as adults yet, but they are still people and deserve to know whatever other people know. And MOST of the parents who say that try to hide that stuff from their kids, which is an equivalent to lying. And for all we know, what they "learn" may be vital in life. And the parents won't tell them, so who will? Another example of deprivation. And it's not like video games have a dog spinning around a rainbow saying "KILL PEOPLE AND SHOOT GUNS AT YOUR MOM AND STAB YOUR SISTER WITH THAT STEAK KNIFE AND FLY PLANES INTO TRADE CENTERS"
Ideally, you wouldn't take anything from a video game but the abstract things learned, like hand-eye coordination, strategic thinking, problem solving, decision making, etc. Obviously, you shouldn't be taking much else from games unless there is an actual moral message to be had. Gaming is an amazing past time. It is usually done socially, it can teach interesting skills and help people learn to process things faster and become more observant. Games have proven to have a positive effect on the brain, especially for those having problems with memory loss. They can be a wonderful teaching tool, and all these claims that games are causing ADD are ridiculous. What games are doing is making a generation of kids that can think faster and handle more information at once. They don't want to stare at a chalkboard and learn at the rate of the retarded kids, they want to absorb information like fucking sponges. Rather than sheltering our children and relying on an antiquated school system to provide the education they need, we should be opening the world up for them, and simply acting as guides. My children will be allowed to see violence and, once they're a bit older, nudity, AS LONG AS IT IS IN CONTEXT. Porn is not my idea of "in context", but a fairly clean, short sex scene between a couple in love is normal and natural, and I won't protect them from a part of everyday life. As for violence, Saving Private Ryan might be gory as hell, but that's war. It's messy. Besides, I'd strongly prefer if people in my family didn't go and join the army.
Completely saw it coming.
Haha, yeah, I did too.
***A long post but a good read***
Are you my fucking clone or something?
I remember when I had a ps1, I was around 9? Well anyway Resident Evil 2 came out and my grandma wouldn't let me get it, but my dad let me play it. 2 years later I murdered my grandpa because I thought he was a zombie and then I killed my grandma because she was calling the police on me, I escaped and went on a mass killing spree and am now serving life in prison because of violent video games. Moral of the story, ESRB saves lives, even YOURS.

God dammit, It didn't change page on my screen... Fix'd
Shush. If we all stuck to the rules we would be the governments Bitch. Not playing violent video games makes me want to be violent towards real people. Playing violent video games means I don't have to eat the screaming baby that stays up till 5 in the morning in the house next to me. Also, saying "A video game told me to play russian roulette with my face and a knife" is just an excuse to get out of being permanantly arrested.
I remember playing Tekken 2 when I was a little kid. I never tried to imitate it or nothing, probably cause I knew I would wind up hurting myself...
Also I don't even know why I'm bothering with this thread but violent video games are some of the best stress relievers ever for me. I'd much rather just splatter bots in unreal tournament then take drugs.
Studies show that violent video games can lead to drug usage to cope with the amount of gore you see in the games
Thanks for letting us know, we couldn't guess that without your and thousands of other comments.
That wasn't very nice :saddowns:
You probably shouldn't be having those thoughts in the first place, and therefore shouldn't need to get rid of them by playing games, you know.
Then we shouldn't live, shouldn't like different things, shouldn't do anything. We play games to relive from stress and have fun, if you got no stress, you don't need to play games or have fun. Your logic is flawed. So what that he has them, he didn't do anything bad yet, so who cares.

However, if you frequently have thoughts of murdering people in next door houses, it's unnormal amounts of stress, or a bad mind. It's like the maitre'd in Stephen King's Everything's Eventual.
Completely saw it coming.
Your post reminded me of his post lol. But its true what you said. Its not the games fault. Like you said, games dont have anything that tells people to kill other people. Another thing that bothers me is, why censor some things in a game, for example L4D2, when we all know that theres much worser stuff seen on other places, like tv, or even in reality? Its just making the game worse...
Because a screaming baby totally isn't annoying and doesn't make you want to tear your hair out?
Tear my hair out? Yes. Kill the screaming baby? No. Although dead baby jokes are pretty funny.
Tear my hair out? Yes. Kill the screaming baby? No. Although dead baby jokes are pretty funny.
I once had a screaming baby next door, I wanted to tear it apart, but only in my mind, not do it in reality. Want to do =/= actually do it.
I once had a screaming baby next door, I wanted to tear it apart, but only in my mind, not do it in reality. Want to do =/= actually do it.
...I know. Otherwise I'd be bald. However, even wanting to do certain things is bad. Ask my psychologists. ( It isn't the wanting to do thing that's making me need to see them, it's the lack of wanting to do anything. )
