Just run PvE if you aren't getting enough XP from merc. It's not too hard to get a decent group together. I've started to hate merc more and more, as I'm a beta player, and in beta, we knew how to stand on a fucking point to capture it. Now, everyone will stand [i]near[/i] the point. Not on it, just close to it. Then they get killed. I solo capped a lot as a medic, and I had a ton of objective points for it. Then I got bitched out by an assault who said "that isnt a medics job". So little faith in the new GA players
Got a question. Just started up GA using Steam, and I got that new launcher, blah blah. What's all this about adding a key? I bought the game on steam, right? So what the balls am I supposed to do? On the website it says I have an active trial.

Is there anything to do aside from queuing for random PvE or PvP missions after finishing the desert area quests? or is it all instanced team or solo play after those?

I wish the open area wasn't a desert. It's like I'm in a desert scene of a movie or post apoc bullshi- oh wait. Game takes place after WW3...
The desert is sort of a tutorial area.

I say content update, because it isn't an expansion. Expect the next expansion around February. From what I've been hearing, we're getting improved PvE experiences, as well as some PvP. They're setting double agent on a timer, like the raids are on, so people can't farm. Warzones are coming in either 3-4 months or 6 months, it depends if HiRez wants to release them in a patch or in an expansion. No news on a new open zone, though. From what I hear, though, we will be getting AvA bases to chill at, however, there's no specified time for release. New devices in 3-4 months as well, and achievements, new mods to craft (making 300 crafting useful now), new armor, flair, pets and stuff within the next 30 days (that's an approximation, though). That's a lot of what I've been told/found about the upcoming months for GA. I'd really like to see new devices with varied stats, a new open zone for higher-levels, better PvP, and more fun for AvA. It would be beyond awesome to introduce a new class or two as well. The basics of this game, I'm happy with. Just some more major mechanics that are buggy for now, but they'll come with tweaking. Oh yeah, and I'd seriously love a better storyline. I wish I could choose a faction to fight for, that would be awesome.

I thought that story was pretty thorough, I've read their mini-novels and in-game story, pretty detailed imo.
Their mini-novels and stories are beautiful. It's just, I don't feel like I'm anything in-game. I want to feel like I actually matter, and am not doing it for my own personal well-being. Or I wish I could convert to Commonwealth, and help them in attack raids against Dome City, or something awesome like that. It would spice up PvP, and future events. Commonwealth agencies versus Dome agencies fighting for control of strategic points that will determine the outcome of who's faction wins would be so much more awesome than "lol hey othr agnts lest fite agenst each otha kkkkkk???/"
Oh man I'd join The Commonwealth instantly if there was a choice.

I'm going to write a thread about it on the GA forums. I think that would be totally awesome, but so many veterans would bail on Dome City for the Commonwealth it wouldn't even be funny. Imagine AvA in terms of Commonwealth versus Agents, except all the vets fight for Commonwealth and all the new players fight for Dome City. IMAGINE THE IMBALANCE. Hi-Rez was nice enough to remove a subscription format because they knew no one wanted to pay, in return every gameplay element turns free. However they cannot just run the servers magically, who do you think pays for them? Sooner or later the money to run them dries up. To counter this they're adding a system where you pay for special upgrades/boosts/items so they can earn a bit of extra cash so YOU can keep playing. You don't even have to think about purchasing any of this, but you may want to because you seem to find getting XP and tokens hard. (Which it isn't). Apparently all of us players will have to pay LOADS of money according to you too, because ~10 USD is so much, those evil corporate pigs at Hi-Rez. Be thankful for what they did, you don't give them any credit. People like you will turn this game into Hellgate London.

Hi-Rez isn't turning the game into a cash shop. They're only looking to make money before their first paid expansion. They can't run on game purchases alone. It doesn't imbalance the game at all, it just gives people with less time a shortcut to 50. I'm all for it now.

Anarchy Online had a good 2-faction system. Train up to (usually) level 10 on the newbie island then choose to join either The Clan or Omni-Tek, Clan being good while Omni-Tek are corporation-greedy whores who I always joined but Clan had a 5% bonus EXP while OT had 10% extra cash from loot/vendoring.

Powerleveling an assault today. Also, I tried Alien Swarm last night, and it's damn addicting if you have friends to play with. I hate myself for constantly being on a mission, because I need to level up in Alien Swarm now.
