And the numerous people who said Mount & Blade... these are all great games. For Total War, I suggest Rome: Total War and Medieval 2: Total War. Unless you have a top of the line PC you may want to avoid Empire for now, it's not optimized very well but is getting better.

Get's highly addicting though, be warned.
