I still like Viktor but I just can't seem to have a good game with him. Part of it's me, i'm just not used to AP mid due to being forced into tank/jungle/support since I first installed the game (I really do love jungler though) and then being too stubborn to try other roles.
But part of it's that he's buggy as shit (25% of the time the laser particle goes right through a champion and it does nothing at all, this bug's been acknowledged but Riot won't fix it since they're not making any money on Viktor anyway).
Also, his ultimate is cool but it either needs to be made a bit stronger or have a lower cooldown. At max rank it silences for .5 seconds, does 350 damage (+.55 per AP) and does 80 damage per second for 7 seconds. Compare to Annie's ult, dealing 450 (+.7) magic damage, stunning for 1.75 seconds, and summoning a pet that attacks for 130 damage and does 35 dps magic damage. Same cooldowns
Viktor also lacks non-ultimate burst at a consistent rate. His Q is a 6 second cooldown, and his E is 13 seconds at rank 1 and 9 at rank 5. It's got fantastic range and damage but it's fairly easy to dodge, has high mana cost, bugs frequently into not going off, and it's cooldown is very long for a main damage skill. It does more damage per use than the nukes of most other AP mids but in the time it takes him to use it once, other AP mids can burst him for equal damage because of their lower CD spells.
Finally, his shield animation means that by the time he gets into range to throw the spell, he'll get hit with another spell from the opposing mid. Theoretically, the shield return should allow him to win these trades. However, the animation and projectile speed are so slow that nine times out of ten, he gets nuked back before the shield even returns to him.
Furthermore, his ult's CD is even more of a problem because, unlike any other AP carry, he lacks almost any potential to get a kill without it. His cooldowns are too long to use either skill twice, and he has no CC/catching mechanism to keep enemies around long enough to be able to reuse a skill (W is short range and unreliable).
I'm determined to make Viktor work but holy shit, whoever designed him really didn't think things through.

TL;DR He doesn't burst hard enough and his cooldowns are too long for him to make up with it through sustained damage (a la Karthus)

I'm trying to remap my controls, but the in-game control mapping thing seems pretty dang borked. I want to change my smartcast and self-cast controls from shift and alt to the thumb buttons on my mouse.
Problem is, instead of just having the smartcast button be "shift," it is individually mapped to every ability. Shift+q, shift+w, shift+e, etc, etc. Same goes for the self-cast abilities. And, as far as I can tell, I can't map hotkeys through the in-game menu to make it thumb1+q, thumb2+q, etc instead. Am I missing something obvious here, or is their control mapping system really just that clumsy? Trying to jump between shift, alt, and the spacebar while juggling my skills feels like playing Beethoven on a tiny piano. It'd just be so much more convenient to map the smart- and self-cast hotkeys to my mouse instead.
Help! How do I do it?

By that logic he's not supposed to be anything. He's not supposed to be sustained damage because his CDs are long and his mana costs are high. He's not supposed to be a CC bot because his two CCs are a 120 second CD .5 sec silence and an unreliable small aoe stun. He's not supposed to be burst because he doesn't have burst. He's not supposed to be utility because he doesn't have utility.

I dunno, I do it just fine, 'cept all of my keys (QWER) are smartcast these days, 'cause having to do shift+whatever really was a stupid pain in the ass and awkward as fuck.
