• Portalized - Back and Better Than Ever - Scalable Movable Portals

Pure eye-sex.
You did this shit better than Prey.
One portal through another, now.
I would imagine it would come out of itself, either resulting in a crash or the portal (if it was the same size) coming out, going out into the portal again, coming out, etc, so it was a huge square shape.
I only showed portions of the WYSIWYG editor. There is no "shooting" in it, simply placement of stuff. The game play itself will be specialized - each sequence will have its own goals. Whatever they need to you use, be it scalable or movable or usual portals, they'll be specialized for easy controlling. Edit: Wow, 5 posts in my one reply. Portal through portal, if they're linked (I showed non-linked portal through portal in the video), the first will fly out of itself with its own momentum. Not entirely correct, but it works, and there are no crashes or anything. And, please, do not link to my own portal through portal video. Portalized's engine has gone a long way since then, stuff is different. Also, just because its Lua scripted, doesn't mean I can just say "hey GMod, here's some Lua portals". That's because you can script for the engine via Lua - the engine itself with all of the portals and stuff is coded in C++.
Since it is LUA, you should import it to GMod in later more developed stages... or now.
LUA is implemented into his game, but that doesn't mean the engine is coded in LUA.
He can't. Just because it's LUA doesn't mean it's able to be put into Source.
I know, but he could code it differently to make it possible.
This looks a lot better since last time I saw. Seems it's gotten a graphic update... which is definitely cool. Did you change the graphics for the character yet? Because the guy in the old videos was... meh... Needless to say, I didn't like ol' sticky very much. Other than that, this looks awesome. Movable portals, scalable portals, even more than 2 portals! This looks totally awesome.
Holy shit. You realize you pretty much just coded "The Room" tech-demo made by professional Lionhead coders? Seriously, this is mind boggling shit. I mean, the last 30 seconds of your video you had a portal... going into another larger scaled portal... Now you are thinking with portals :D
What happens when you put a portal THROUGH a portal? INFINITE LOOPING PARADOX NOO!!
Do this and make a video of what happens.
I know, but he could code it differently to make it possible.
There's currently 70 C++ engine files, totaling at 10k lines of code. While compared to actual (big) games this is very little, I am in no way "porting" it over to Lua. Firstly, because its impossible due to things I do in C++, and secondly, because I just don't feel like wasting my time ;). Edit: Yes, I know about "The Room". I reference it in my youtube video page. However, that demo is a lot more than just portals ;). I'd be some type of god if I coded time-scalable physics, where stuff decays as time goes on. Or if I made such extreme detail when you're up close, 1cm to the surfaces and what-not.
Will there be sliders and things to change the size of the portals and objects?
Will there be sliders and things to change the size of the portals and objects?
Like I said, each sequence/part will have its own specialized controls. I assure you, wherever scalable portals are needed to be player-controlled, they will be simple ways to control them.
How does the engine handle things at speed? Will you eventually tear out of the portals (Assuming your in an infinite loop drop sequence) and fly into the void, or is it stable forever? Also what happens if the room has a small hallway that you have to crouch to get in, and then you put a portal on the floor and the ceiling. What happens when you stand up?
Have you ever tried to put one of your portals in another portal?
How does the engine handle things at speed? Will you eventually tear out of the portals (Assuming your in an infinite loop drop sequence) and fly into the void, or is it stable forever?
It's stable forever. There's a high terminal velocity for the player (higher than Portal's, which I felt I was hovering down, not falling down). However, you can make limitless high terminal velocities - they are specified per-object. The engine uses NewtonGD's swept collision tests to its advantage, and portals handle things that move extremely fast without problem.
Also what happens if the room has a small hallway that you have to crouch to get in, and then you put a portal on the floor and the ceiling. What happens when you stand up?
You can't stand up. You'd be standing on yourself. @ S1N1337: Yes. Watch the video for a non-linked portal through portal, and I can assure you that linked portal through portal is pretty OK.
Drop one into the other and make a video. I double dog dare you. :)
What happens when you throw the portal through the other one? As I now see has been asked already.
Will all models that appear in the engine/game be scalable? And could we import our own custom ones and scale those?
thanks a lot, you broke my brain! :argh:
What happens when you throw the portal through the other one? As I now see has been asked already.
I wanna see this happen.
He did that already, in an earlier form of portalized, because there was a thread asking about it about 3 months ago or so.
Will all models that appear in the engine/game be scalable? And could we import our own custom ones and scale those?
Yes. It's a property of the prop scripts: [lua] -- this is the initial scale scale = [[ 1 1 1 ]] [stuff] phys_hull_mod = true [/lua] If phys_hull_mod is true, then you can dynamically scale the prop. Otherwise you're stuck with the initial scale of the script. Edit: Yes, I did the linked portal through portal in the old version, but please don't look at that video any more :D... it's so old and unstable.
You can't stand up. You'd be standing on yourself.
Bwahahah, In portal you can stand up. You fall through the portals a bit, and then land on your head. You can see the floor in two places at once. :v: Then you crouch and start falling again. I've had it kill me two times and throw me out into the void. Nice one valve.
I can assure you that linked portal through portal is pretty OK.
Yea that was cool and all. But we want to see what happens when you have only two portals out and throw one through the other.
Drop one into the other and make a video. I double dog dare you. :)
I TRIPLE dog dare you :downs: Also, holy Christ that's amazing. What version are you at? quit hogging the portals!
So when will this be public? :excited:
So when will this be public? :excited:
I just said that! Edit: Well, not exactly :(
This is niftier then I last remember it, with the boarderless little portals and a little grey alien in a small grey room. Huge success, keep it up.
Crazy scaling. Charlie and the motherfucking chocolate factory.
He did that already, in an earlier form of portalized, because there was a thread asking about it about 3 months ago or so.
Link? I'm a lazy bastard.
