How come I can never get back into Minecraft anymore?

I remember perhaps one of my longest games in Minecraft a bit after I got it (before the nether update), I wanted to build a minecart track on a bridge across two mountains in a valley and I actually got very close to finishing it. Was a huge undertaking but I enjoyed it. Another save file I built a nice little settlement in a natural harbour.
I want to do things like that again but when I boot up Minecraft I just can't be bothered to do those kinds of things anymore, but I really want to. Nostalgia is a bitch.
Think of stuff you've never done (Redstone, mob traps, etc) and go over the top with it. A lot of people don't use all of the tools of the game and that's probably the problem.

This^^^ I think my "want" to play this game again is all from nostalgia. The game mechanics are boring to me now, and all i'm chasing is that feeling of starting out again. Mods don't help, because its usually still the same mechanics. Tekkit doesn't either, because even if I get some cool items out of it, there isn't much point.
Some new mobs and that adventure update someone mentioned would be a great change though.
If the RPG/adventure elements from Terraria came over here into a 3d building world, I'd be insanely happy.
I wish Terraria kept updating =(
play with mods or play adventure maps or minez is really good fun!

This thread has reminded me of when I first picked up minecraft, back when it was something I had never seen before. The world had a charm to it, but it felt dangerous too. You never knew what you would find, especially underground where you could come across a supercave with like 5 dungeons in it, then build a minecart system to get you to un-explored areas. Then, it just had that... magic to it. It felt really special, a feeling you couldn't get anywhere else. Plotting what to do with your cliffside house, venturing out into the wild. It was just amazing.
I don't feel that about minecraft anymore, it has since become stale, too familiar. There is no more allure to it, the world generation is dull and uninteresting. Through mods I can spruce up the gameplay and keep myself playing for a few days, but I loose interest every time.
As depressing as it is that the feeling is gone, I still hold those memories very dear. When it was new to me, Minecraft was one of the best things I had ever experienced.
Though at the same time, I can say that about any game. Being new to a game with something special about it, like Fallout 3 or TF2, it just has an amazing charm to it. It's an adventure, one you hold dear for the rest of your life.
I played minecraft for a while using a friend's account. I got bored of it after a month or two while hosting a server for bros.
Although now my friend changed the password, so I don't have access to it. Plus, now minecraft is 27 dollars. It's fucking crazy.
I only have fun in Minecraft when I play with friends with mods included. So that sort of "sealed" the coffin.
I used to play a TON of Minecraft around the time of the Halloween update, and a few other long periods some times after that. The problem is, I REALLY would like to play minecraft, but I always find myself logging in, starting a world/my server, playing for a few hours, then never going back on that world/my server for months on end.
It sucks because I love the creative element to minecraft but it gets so repetitive, I never killed the enderdragon, but it never interested me to even do so.
I've tried tekkit, couldn't get into it.
I guess i'm just burnt out. Even long extended breaks don't seem to work for me.
I think what I dislike is the lack of adventure in the game, it was fun when I was a noob, thats when creativity flowed immensely, now it runs dry ever few hours. (Plus mining all the damn time gets really repetitive)
I've tried so many things to get me back into it, but I guess I just havent been able to.
Even Creative gets boring.
What I want to ask is two things:
1- How do you keep playing without getting bored?
and
2- How can I get back into it?
Hopefully someone could mention something about minecraft that might get me back into it or something because I would love to build awesome structures, but I can never commit after a certain time passes.
Thanks for the help if you can provide any :D
My advice, play other games. From what your saying, you're burnt up of it. I felt the same way, I just got into other games, like totally different genre. Do that until you get bored of it, then go back to Minecraft. It worked for me. Good luck!
