There is this magical thing called not needing to install all games you own

ITT it's only worth the money if I get some use out of it.

and STORES! You know that place that you can buy disks for the games?
Who needs stores when you have Steam?
Who needs stores when you have Steam?
When someone has a shitty ISP that limits how much you can download a month or haveing slow internet? I have a friend that absolutely hates steam because his internet is about equivalent to dial up, due to living in the country.

I have a friend that absolutely hates steam because his internet is about equivalent to dial up, due to living in the country.
It doesn't limit you and it is faster compared to most connections where I live, but it would just be annoying downloading humongous games whenever you wanted to play them. I started downloading TF2 almost 2 and a half hours ago and it's only 75% done. And it's only 2.5gb. Imagine having to download the entire OB at speeds of only 150-250 kb/s
tf2, portal should only be bought if you care about Half life
TF2 Pros: cool team/class-based gameplay, several gamemodes, achievements - and TONS of them Cons: already have CSS which is similar, graphics which might be hard on my game-hating laptop
CSS is not even close to TF2. Example: Play TF2 like you play CSS. What happens? You die. A lot. Now play calm, think about what you're doing, do what's best with your class. What happens? You die not that often.
I fail to see how TF2 is anything like CSS.
I fail to see how TF2 is anything like CSS.
Multiplayer and has guns. That's where the similarities end.
You could have bought both of them, DLed Portal, played it, finished it, created a backup on a CD/DVD, then uninstalled and installed TF2. Then you can just install from a disk next time.
I would, but I'm running insanely low on disk space and I never really cared enough about sci-fi to get HL2. At this point, I am probably going to get TF2, but I'll just wait about another page or so because I want to see some more in-depth opinions about the two.
Since when is HL2 Sci-fi? Have you even seen the game at all? It's more of a "HOLY SHIT SHOOT THAT THING OH FUCK I'M TRAPPED WHAT DO I DO :byodood:" for a week or so.
OB at speeds of only 150-250 kb/s
Fun fact I download everything with those speeds, until May ~500kb/s :V
I have ~20 MB/s. Fiberoptic ftw :smug:
Cons: already have CSS which is similar
No.
CSS got boring way to fast. TF2 never gets boring.
already have CSS which is similar Are you batshit INSANE
This. CSS is an unbalanced piece of shit with a community that has an average age of 12. TF2 has none of that.
Correction: 8-year olds. Also yes, TF2 has the occacional annoying kid who goes screaming for his mommy whenever he gets killed.
tf2 you will finish portal in like 4 hours
45 minutes for me. :smug:
ITT it's only worth the money if I get some use out of it.
1. download portal 2. finish portal 3. uninstall portal 4. download HL2 5. play HL2 ext
1. download portal 2. finish portal 3. uninstall portal 4. download HL2 5. play HL2 ext
6. uninstall HL2 7. Install Ep. 1 8. Play 9. Uninstall Ep. 1 10. Install Ep. 2 11. Play 12. Uninstall 13. Install TF2 14. Profit.
CSS is an unbalanced piece of shit with a community that has an average age of 12. TF2 has none of that.
You know what, guys stop bitching about CSS CSS isn't only fucking de_dust2 comptetetive awp only shit you can also play custom gamemodes like Death Run, Surf, Zombie Escape and don't call CSS players "12-10 years old kids". Stop basing your dumb opinion on 2-3 "proclan dedust" servers.
I can beat Portal in like 3 hours or less. It's not that much of a challenging game once you're used to the controls. As you probably noticed, I'm saying TF2 is better. EDIT: TF2 is nothing like CS:S.
Orange Box!
Go on Amazon or Ebay and you can get the orange box very cheaply, for around 10$ :D
Portal doesn't have hats, TF2 is the clear winner.
Just get Orange Box. If you have HDD trouble, just install and uninstall at separate times. If not; TF2 will last you much longer, and is a very, very fun game, so I'd say get that, as Portal won't last you long. But they are very different games, so do a little research and see what you'd like better.
Its hard to decide TF2=Awesome multiplayer with hours of gameplay. It never gets old, with updates all the time. Portal= A puzzle game with a nice story involved. Lots of mods out there to expand the game time.
TF2 is not like CS:S at all. I'd go with TF2 for the replayability.
I'm probably not going to buy both. If the game is not as worthwhile as people say then I'd rather buy something that is. Problem is, I use the crap on my hard drive that takes up 500+ mb. My ISP sucks and it would be tedious to wait forever for something to re-download when I want to play it. I'm saving up to possibly buy a 1tb hard drive though. I'm pretty much convinced. I'm gonna go try getting TF2 now. Thanks for the answers, everyone. I was this close to buying Portal :S Edit: Just bought TF2
To add to my previous post, you can make backups of the games (yes, even fully updated) to put on multiple cds/dvds for later reinstallation. Furthermore, as a few, including me, have stated that the games on the Orange Box can be installed individually. TF2 is fun, but it is nice to have other things to play if you want take a break from TF2 and have more variety to play around with, and there are plenty of mods for all of the games in the Orange Box, and you can play them anytime whether it be now, or in the future, as long as you have a Steam account (and you are not banned). $10 more would get you the Orange Box. Since the games are downloaded individually, you can always pause the download/update process of any of those. If you do not want to download all of that, either download those at another time (if you already have the Orange Box, which is 5 games, you could download any of those anytime since you bought them all already), or get the Orange Box for retail (which all you have to download after installation is the updates, nothing more). Not worthwhile? All five on the Orange Box are worthwhile, even Portal, check reviews of the Orange Box and each game, and check the price of the Orange Box and compare that to the price of getting them individually/separately, $30 Orange Box vs. $80+ all five purchased separately. HUGE difference, and there is only a $10 difference between TF2 and the Orange Box. Orange Box = Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2:EP1, Half-Life 2:EP2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 = you just saved $50 of money getting all five together in the Orange Box instead of getting each separately. I cannot explain this any clearer.
Portal doesn't have hats, TF2 is the clear winner.
Lol. But seriously guy, get TF2. Portal was fun, had the best end credits song in a game, but you probably will never go back to Portal. You'll go back to TF2 every single day.
OP wins "Idiot of the Day" title for not purchasing the Orange Box.

You have never played HL? Its simple Portal: Singleplayer TF2: Multiplayer [editline]11:23AM[/editline]
This. CSS is an unbalanced piece of shit with a community that has an average age of 12. TF2 has none of that.
CSS Is an amazing game, its just let down by hackers and the kiddy community. Play CSS at a non-competitive LAN or with your friends and you will see its a good game. + Unbalanced? Wut... its perfectly balanced in terms of weapons/maps/bombsites.
