The only reason to join the Mages Guild is for the spellmaking and enchanting alters.
The mages guild is useless if you have mods that add spellmaking and enchanting altars.

That chest in the arch mages chamber that duplicates ingredients can be useful though. If you have maxed alchemy and can make potions from a single ingredient you can make paralyze poisons from daedra venin which is somewhat rare.
I didn't say the mages guild was the most useful, I said it was the only faction questline I had fun playing.
OK, this is really odd. I got in a fight with some goblin, and afterwards I noticed that my health wouldn't go back up all the way to full. I've got no negative status effects, and sleeping, praying, and leveling up have had no effect--I just can't get the last 12HP to come back. WTF?
Anyone?
Anyone?
Do you have any diseases? That could be the cause.
He said he was praying, too.
No, as I said, no negative status effects, so no disease. This is really odd.
Try using that one thing from the patch to restore broken attributes.
Aww, I want to play this so badly now.
But I've scratched my disk :(
Buy it again.
Yeah every time I read this thread and threads like it I always get so overwhelmed by the sheer awesomeness of this game.
Then I spend like a week installing, and downloading mods.
Then I finally play and realise that I start off completely shit and that it will take really long for me to actually get any good.
Then I just get frustrated and eventually uninstall it again until I read this thread some months in the future and it all happens again.
Play without OOO or turn down or up the difficulty.
Play with fcom with difficulty at maximum.
Okay, I installed that zombie mod people were talking about here and set it to "the horde"
When can I expect to run into some zombies?
Edit: Never mind, says I need to install OBSE for it to work. I'll do that tomorrow.

Derp.
Obse is the most important thing you can get for Oblivion, other than a good computer.
And the patches.

Which thing from what patch? The unofficial one?

Yes, I think. It should be in the spell popup menu.

Thanks, I'll look into it.

Not to disappoint you, but I actually choose a class I didn't play before. It's a good class regardless.
In other news, got a madness bow and arrows, getting amber(or whatever it is) armor now. Also did that ghost siege quest, was a lot of fun figuring out everything for myself.
[editline]07:18AM[/editline]
Also a mod I installed didn't work right, so I started with nothing but a fine steel longsword. I finally got the shit I need to make potions, so I can finally live like a king with all those potions I stored up. It did fuck up two levels though, I did get 10 INT out of it, so all is well that ends well.
I would love it, except for the voice overs during combat make me think i'm watching some sort of hentai.
Also quoting something from two pages ago. Because it really is the truth. :colbert:
Someone tell me a random class to make.
Tell me the race, birth sign, and the major skills. I don't know what to make... Everything I make turns out to be pretty bad so yeah, someone tell me a class to make. Preferably good, please.
In exchange, i'll give you a polite rating :3:

By the way, I'm playing the PS3 version, so no modded classes.
Here's my pro build:
Stealth Specialization
Major Attributes:
Luck
Personality
Major Skills:
Acrobatics
Mercantile
Speechcraft
Alchemy
Armorer
Athletics
Restoration
I call it: The Diplomat
Good luck with that one! Every time you level up your enemies become stronger and more dangerous while your offensive and defensive abilities remain almost untouched. Have fun talking your way through those Oblivion gates.

He can walk through most non-plotwise encounters with that build. All he has to do is keep healing himself constantly. Assuming in alchemy is he doesn't have the goal of earning thousands of gold and instead has the goal of making mana potions.

Shit, I WISH you could talk your way through the game, Deus Ex/Fallout style.

Nope, nothing there from the UP except the "Fix follower double-face bug" spell.
Oh, never mind. It was a different mod. I think it was the thing that makes it so you don't have to do level up screens.
