If you want to support a really good indie that actually got rejected from the Steam Store, I suggest purchasing Unepic. I bought it a few months back and it is really good little action RPG sidescroller metroidvania. Got rejected from the Steam store without explanation. It deserves more recognition than it got

I think they probably didn't agree with the business rates of Steam. (I think steam takes a % of game sales.)

Nah, the guy wrote about it on several forums. He has submitted it several times to steam for review or whatever they do, and it has been rejected and they have not given him a reason, so it isn't a disagreement with pricing on his part. Which is unfortunate, because while his game has sold pretty well on Desura and his own store, I reckon it would sell like hotcakes on Steam at the current price of $9.99 or whatever he is charging.

I feel bad for these people. Spent 2 years on a game and now it's out and it's shit. But honestly, they should have seen that this game isn't on par with the current quality of any game

One thing I'm really confused about is graphics. Since it really is a Left 4 Dead 2 Mod (which by the way has good if not decent graphics) how do they fuck up the graphics so badly? It looks like less than PS2-level quality models.

The difference between a top quality developing team and a shitty 4 workers one. Valve employees meet a very distinct criteria of perfection (except maybe Chet apparently), they are competent and have years of experience on the field. They also test their games beforehand.
This team of modders doesn't have any experience, the 4 guys who do copy-pasted everything from the L4D 2 engine, but made their own texture (Read : vomit and shit on a 24 pixel by 24 pixel image), their own models (Read: Nothing loks good except maybe the crystal skull, but then you can't see it because of the next point) and the lighting is all over the place with no flashlight to clean it up (Read : So you can't see the vomit and shit). Combine that with no testing and no experience and that's what you get.
This is actually a bit more depressing than it is funny. For one, it feels like they wanted it to be good, but were just so delusional about their own creation being great that they didn't realize that it doesn't live up to any real modern standards (This is why you have external testers, guys, not just for bugfixing). It's also depressing that this even got onto the Steam store, while some fantastic Source mods (That are typically much better than this tripe) don't even get a spotlight on the store or anything of the sort.
I'd like to think that they might be trying to do a Suda51 thing where it's intentionally dumb, but even Suda51 only goes as far as having a couple minor shitty game mechanics and confusing plots in his games, he and Grasshopper Manufacture still have a fair bit of technical competence and their games still have a lot of effort put into them.
This is something I'd probably make in about a week if I wanted to try dicking around in Source SDK. There's no way you can justify this having a price tag of any sort.
