Too right, his method isn't even CSM, it's just overlaid orthographic projected textures with absolutely no view frustum splits or anything complicated. I'm sure that when Valve decide to add something, they do it the right way instead of some hacky way.
The point is that It's ridiculous claiming Valve was directly inspired by a modder that altered something that was already there. I'm not meaning to be a dick and I should have just let it go but it insults the intelligence of people working at Valve.

Yeah, even implying that they would use such a hacky method (even if it is Valve) is pretty stupid to begin with. They already had the system in place for Dota 2 without any hacky shit - all they did for CS:GO is add cascades which is easy compared to getting the basic shadowmapping stuff to work.
I don't think you were being a dick either.
VALVe isn't the team primarily developing CS:GO
We all know this shit, therefore; the lighting is that dev's choice and implementation, they probably found some easy-ish way to implement it on some website, and plugged it into source, same with FXAA.

Not really, Valve are quite capable of doing everything without much effort, it's whether they need to or not... The lighting is the same as Dota 2's, just with cascades (I'll bet Dota 2 has cascaded shadowmapping support, but it's just disabled because there's no point for a top down game.)
everytime i click quick match i get a black screen
wat do
just restart the game, that's what i had to do a few times.
[editline]26th March 2012[/editline]
also when switching maps while in a server, it slows my computer really hard and freezes a bunch of shit.

The textures look like ass and reminds me so much of the Dead Center campaign in L4D2, which I once thought were flat color textures.

because they totally are not on the same engine or anything

Not exactly sure whether you're avoiding the point I was trying to make that the textures are seriously lacking much detailing or you were born dropped on the head.
literally all i get to play is dust and nuke
because dust2 is the most balanced map there is?
because dust2 is the most balanced map there is?
and fun to play on

You never noticed how much content csgo takes from left for dead 2?
You never noticed how much content csgo takes from left for dead 2?
I was only comparing the texture quality.
So I heard a lot of pros dislike CS:GO.
im shit at CS but i can see why they would
its a lot simpler and even with the most recent update that was specifically supposed to fix the movement, it's still missing a lot of those old movement quirks like bhopping and jumping through windows and crouch hopping, etc.. it just feels like there's less to do honestly. i'm not sure why they decided to strip the most unique parts away but it seems like a bad decision. i don't see much room for a skill ceiling to improve apart from learning how to use the weapons accurately and how to navigate the maps well. a lot of the "fun" stuff seems to have been stripped away and it's a bit disappointing. i've considered just running back to CS:S a couple times honestly
So the other night when I played csgo beta, I got the last kill and won the round, when the next round started, my fps dropped to 10 - 20 fps. Curse this shitty laptop, even if it has an nvidia gtx 260m!
I'm pretty sure they removed bunny hopping because console players cannot do it.
I'm pretty sure they removed bunny hopping because console players cannot do it.
Why should it matter? We won't be playing with them.
I'm pretty sure they removed bunny hopping because console players cannot do it.
part of me thinks it makes sense but another part of me thinks that it's so easy to re-enable that valve would have added it back in as soon as cross platform play was removed from the game
Anyone want L4D2 for a beta key?
I'm pretty sure they removed bunny hopping because console players cannot do it.
But there is no cross-platform, so what would it matter? Sure you can connect keyboard + mouse to the ps3, why can't they bhop? Why does it matter if console players can't do it, I can't do it either
I dunno, something feels missing without bhopping.
I can see why valve would be weary with bunny hopping. Want to bunny hopping done wrong? Play Fortress Forever (I'm sure I'll get a disagree here). Then again, CS' bhop has never been anywhere close to that. I can see how a lot of people don't want to learn all the quirks to the game to be able to play it and survive. But bunny hopping was never that much of an advantage in CS, from what I've seen. My post probably sounds a little bipolar.
Never the less, I can see why Valve would be careful with it. We'll see what happens, these kinds of questions are why this is a public beta.

They made the bhopping way simple in FF
this is probably just me being nitpicky again, but i couldnt help but notice that the "ak-47" is using a magazine that belongs to an ak-74

the problem is that they fire a different sized bullet.
i think if they wanted to make the game a little bit more realistic they would fix that.
What I think is funny is DotA pros thought Dota 2 was going to suck and they were just going to stick to DotA in Warcraft 3, but when they tried it, they loved it.
CS pros were excited for CS:GO, but when they tried it, they hated it.

umm how exactly can you tell that the magazine belongs to an ak74
i have an ak47 mag irl that looks exactly like that, magazines come in different shapes and designs you know
