• Sonic Fan Remix - Sega should take note... This is how you make a Sonic Game

There's a thing called too much detail, and this game has it. It's a clusterfuck of models so you can't see where you're going half the time
It's so very visually dirty, there's just shit everywhere. Emptiness isn't bad, y'know. Also the 3d rendered crap just doesn't look half as good as well-made sprites. Looks kinda slow too.
Craving the full game now. I bet just these three acts alone with no boss fight, no checkpoints and no boxes took absolutely ages to make though.
From what I heard.. Six months. Note that Sonic 4 took a year and a half, arguably near two years.
Ah, My apologies, but I keep editing the original article with more stuff. I've never really made a thread like this before. so learnig how to use all the tags has been... fun. And I'm gonna keep editing the first post till I'm happy with it!
Thanks for posting the music - it's awesome!
Downloading. chesty get your own avatar
 Snake?
chesty get your own avatar
You really do worry about that don't you?
You really do worry about that don't you?
no it's just annoying i thought i was reading my own posts This is a beautiful game. Definitely what Sonic 4 should have been.
There's a reason the yellow tint is there.
This is a beautiful game. Definitely what Sonic 4 should have been.
Ha, we could tell straight from the first homing attack that S4 was gonna go the wrong way. Then they showed us the minecart... Then they got rid of the minecart... They still didn't fix the physics. It's like how broken Sonic 06 was ('What Sonic 06', you're quite sure that game never existed.) only we are gonna have to put up with 2 more episodes of S4. The reason Sonic Fan Remix is so Great, is cause the 2nd guy working on it, is the guy who wrote the guide to Perfect Sonic Physics.
And don't forget the torch level where it's pitch black so you can't move quickly at all. ... in a game entirely about moving quickly.
There's a reason the yellow tint is there.
What about everyone else? They're not going to see a yellow tint.
Ha, we could tell straight from the first homing attack that S4 was gonna go the wrong way. Then they showed us the minecart... Then they got rid of the minecart... I grew up playing a lot of Sonic Adventure, I love the homing attack. And I'm indifferent about phsyics, I'm not picky.
What about everyone else? They're not going to see a yellow tint.
They'll get over it.
I'm not picky.
[editline]22nd October 2010[/editline] It's not that it's just a little bit off from the old Megadrive games... it just doesn't make any sense at all in terms of momentum.

additional note: my ears started bleeding after hearing those sound effects and the music! The current musician to this project provides his own version.
Wow. This is why I want them to make the rest of the game.
And don't forget the torch level where it's pitch black so you can't move quickly at all. ... in a game entirely about moving quickly.
That level is the easiest to remember the paths.
Oh man this is awesome. As much as I like the 2d Sonic, I can't help but wish for another Sonic Adventure, sure the stories were written by someone who could be considered retarded, but the games themselves were incredibly fun. Well, that and I have a special place for Crush 40 in my heart.

I don't track fan games much. The last sonic fan game I was looking at was this one. It went dead after 2006 and only exists as a demo This one though mainly used higher res 2D textures. 3D takes a lot more time and effort- more props for the remix guys in the OP for trying to pull it off. Unlike the Chrono Trigger Resurrection- a similar fangame that got destroyed by Square Enix, these guys got the download out and people mirrored it. The one in the OP is very well done and captures 3D with 2d gameplay nicely. I'm going to give it a try when I get back home on my gaming computer, but it seems to have been received well. Sega just doesn't seem to care about good Sonic gameplay or presentation any more. I haven't had a chance to play their Sonic 4 though.
They are making a full version right? If Sonic team C&D this they've lost all my respect.
They are making a full version right? If Sonic team C&D this they've lost all my respect.
What they got out right now is the demo. The full version isn't out yet but it's all up to Sega. Sega AFAIK hasn't pulled the plug on previous fan games, but considering the quality of this one and the recent release of Sonic 4, who knows.
Nostalgia'd on sonic 2. Brb digging out sega genesis.

I like the Opening theme, which is taken from Howard Drossins album.
Okay, if you didn't see the new page 1...

Don't know stereoscopic? You need to view these cross-eyed!
Yeah!
All I want is another Sonic Adventure, where characters like Tails and Knuckles have their own stories and not 1 level playable character bullshit like they pulled in Sonic 06.
All I want is another Sonic Adventure, where characters like Tails and Knuckles have their own stories and not 1 level playable character bullshit like they pulled in Sonic 06.
There's no way I could trust Sega to such a task, considering everything after Sonic Adventure/2 was like a poor attempt to mimic Adventure (main series) till Unleased. Unleashed (daytime stages) were good, so with Colours following the same path, it looks like this is how future Sonic games are gonna be! Also, the Rush series and Colours for DS seem to be an ongoing theme. but this is all main series of course, God knows what the next Storybook game will be like.
