9x39 isn't that bad of an ammo IMO. It's pretty balanced to use since one of the guns that uses it is a full auto sniper rifle.
Silent, armour piercing and decently accurate, despite the rainbow trajectory. Ammunition for true veteran stalkers.
AMK - SE is crashing a lot for me lately.
:smith:
It's so annoying.
Thanks to a group of stalkers, I survived

I love how much of a difference 9x39 armor piercing makes. With AP rounds I can switch to single shot mode and use my VAL like a sniper rifle, and normal 9x39 is common enough to go full auto and burst-fire motherfuckers.
Did I mention I love my VAL?
VAL with a scope is like a VSS Mk2.
Now I need to resupply to raid Jupiter :sigh:
VAL with a scope is like a VSS Mk2.
Yeah, I was originally put off by the VAL's slightly lower accuracy, but the VSS is useless at close-medium range, whereas the VAL can be put to use at pretty much anything from 10-150 meters.

Yea, if you're only armed with a VSS and something comes at you from close range, you either aim for the head or you're dead because you emptied the 10 bullets into thin air or strong points of your enemy. VAL can be used in any situation by sacrificing a little weight and some accuracy.
If not for the lack of a grenade launcher (my primary armament for downing helicopters; for some reason it's easier to hit them with those instead of RPGs), i'd pack a VAL all the time. Usually I go for a Groza, VSS and Desert Eagle in 9x39 as my armament.

I need something to take out the BTR in Cordon. Only 4 or so F1 Grenades and no RPG/Grenade launcher. What to do...
Thing is, the attachable suppressor is supposed to reduce those to subsonic velocities.
I thought they were supposed to lower the initial muzzle velocity and hide the flash so that you can't see or hear where the shot is coming from, but at longer distances you'll still hear a SNAP if a bullet flies close by.

Fun fact: the SVU has a full auto mode. This isn't represented in the games though.

The grenades travel faster I think. That might be why.

Rifle grenades?

There's still a pretty audible sound if not using subsonic ammo or .22
The only true "silenced" weapon really a .22 pistol

I know this. It's a marvel, really. Used to great extent in Afghanistan, too bad the Mujahideen raped them anyway
I have killed many a stalker with a knife when we've both needed to reload :v:
Most of the time they get the clip in first though.

Also, I'm in a internet cafe, post faster so I can get more internets for my money.
I can share that I am downloading a mod called DMX mod, which I have only heard faintly of and I can't remember much of it. It looks crazy as fuck and adds lots of content.

Is it Russian?
I'm scared of how asorbing these games are, the moment I'm hungry in rl, my char is hungry, my my palms get sweaty when there are burers nearby, before I even see or hear them, it's the same with bloodsuckers, except the hairs on my neck stand up instead. When I get pounced by a bloodsucker from behind my back goes numb, and when I take psy damage my head hurts. It is a scary but intense feeling to play this game
Is it Russian?
"crazy as fuck"
"lots of content"
Sounds like it.

I knew it, no Western mod team is willing to make a twisted and insane version of a game with more content in it than my sister's wardrobe on a saturday morning.

To them, and I've handed in flint to them[/sp] what else can I do?

Gave it to owl, did I fuck up?

Yep.
I sold the special snoiper roifle svd for a vintar BC, did I make the right call?
Am I the only one who quite frankly hate the Vintar BC (Vintorez)? It's not that I have a problem killing with it, but it doesn't feel good in my hands and I definitely can't sense that "Veteran Stalker" feeling the gun is fabled for; it seems sort of glorified. I can compensate for the bullet drop, no problem, but it's still a bit off-putting. The small mag is annoying and makes the weapon hardly useful for close-range, the scope is as powerful as the SVD's but doesn't retain it's power or range, the integrated silencer smells "pussy" and the gun's design looks freaking weird. It's fit for both sniping and assault-style combat but excels at neither.
All the STALKER games also seems to sort of "want" you to use the Vintar and has you stumble across several times (there are at least 5 ways of obtaining it easily in ShoC even not counting looting or buying, and in CS you even find one sitting on the ground right in the open in the FIRST area).
I kinda wish it had worser stats so I had a better excuse not to use it. My absolute favorite weapon setup is a trusty old AK or an SVD (the original variant).

Well I normally use the VAL but since they push the VSS in your face and since it has a sexy desing I just deal with it and get it the extended magazine upgrade.
I know this. It's a marvel, really. Used to great extent in Afghanistan, too bad the Mujahideen raped them anyway
That was a tactics failure, mainly, and like Vietnam, political support failed before military capability. The coalition currently there is learning, albeit it took them about 10 years to get around to it.
VSS is indeed quite an interesting gun; though any weapon designed from scratch to be as silent as possible is going to be very good at it, rather than adapting another gun for it.
