I suppose once you get a Gastly you can use Mean Look to stop it teleporting, and then you can whittle down its health, put it to sleep, whatever. but that's a while past Misty's gym since it's Leaf Green.
As for killing water things, what about the Pikachu you get in the forest before Brock's gym? Forget the name. I know how it's supposed to be really underpowered but Thundershock's still strong against water, right?

Am I the only one who thinks of Suicune as female? (other two dogs seem male to me) Besides I always class upon how many of said pokemon are possible to catch in the game, if it's one then it's a legendary to me. Don't say "well the stats make it not one" because thre's no set description of a legendary, it's a term open for debate as we're not all coming from a competative gaming POV (likewise my view is equal weight).

Would you call Eevee and it's evolutions legendary? You can only get one without breeding.
I always thought that Arcanine was supposed to be a Legendary at one point...
You can get Eevee from The Game Corner for 6666 coins, and I do believe that the term "legendary" is based upon the history of whichever region where the pokémon is regarded as legendary.

As in, the pokemon's legendary status is not decided upon it's ingame stats, but rather the "story", "lore" or just "history".
Legendaries seem to always be the last pokedex entries for their generation.

I meant including breeding, slip up on my side. I'd regard any pokemon that's one off and can't breed as a legendary.
