I have to disagree with this part right here. Most mario games manage to be pretty innovative (save for Mario Party games and Mario Galaxy 2). Look at Mario Galaxy from Super Mario sunshine (even Sunshine to SM64). They manage to keep the core formula in place, but add in something that will make it a completely new experience. The water pack changed the entire way the game went, and the galaxies made for interesting platforming. And don't forget Super Paper Mario, which has to be one of the most innovative platforming games released by a big developer ever.
Super Paper Mario wasn't that great.
Man I always thought Treyarch was kind of cool but I take back that statement now.
I wonder for how long people will buy new call of duty games each year.
Treyarch is bullshit, they don't understand that there is more beyond their own damn forums. Look at just about any other gaming company (bunjie, gearbox, bethesda) they actually look beyond their forums and fan sites and actually read the complaints and try to fix the problem or incorporate something new. Treyarch tried the voting system but don't even collect voting data to learn how to improve the game play experience from somewhere beyond the generic cod style of play.
