I am happy with what Infinity Ward is doing with Modern Warfare 2.

Ah Wheeze, I remember playing on the Gluttony servers with you from a while ago. I remember you teaching my Wire with your unexplainably awesome Icelandic accent.
I couldn't agree more though. Just because IW are churning out the same title every two years, doesn't mean to say they can put their own features in it, that may actually prove better than previous games, desipte being a risky move.
After reading this thread, I bet most of you are still going to buy this game.
I really don't understand the removal of dedicated servers
sure they're trying to consolize the game for whatever reason (being dicks) but it's dumb from a business standpoint
Unless they're going to clog up the servers with ads (like an ad where the MOTD would be in a source game) then running the servers themselves won't make them any money. Why not just rent servers out to people, and then once the game picks up allow people to buy and use their own servers?
shit makes no sense, it's completely backwards
maybe IW is just trolling ya'all
I'm smart enough to consider they aren't by the way
I'm on the console for this one, so it really doesn't matter!
There's already a thread on MW2, why do people keep posting new threads?
Cap the players, removing the modding, kill the communities.
essentially taking the PC Gaming out of PC Gaming.
9vs9 player cap.
CoD4 was intended to be a more arcade-ish multiplayer. Not realistic ones with huge maps and 200 players online. So when you joined a server on the map Crossfire while you're playing sabotage and there would be 32 players online, it would be absolute chaos.
There wouldn't be any tactics or anything similar to that skillbase because you'd spawn and then die after 5 seconds.
So 9vs9 is a very suitable player limit.
No un-official player hosted dedicated servers.
So infinty ward will be hosting the servers for us ? Fantastic!
Now I will always get good letancy and quality servers. And no dumbass 10 year old admins who ban you for "camping".
No mods.
I'm not really happy about this one. Nor am I sad. So I could not care less about mods.
Besides.. 90% of all mods are always shit.
Now since most of you guys base your opinion on other peoples opinion and bash Infinity Ward for making these decisions:
I will propably not look at this thread again since I already know how the comments will be like.
I think I couldnt agree more with you.
Too many people in a server gets you killed right after you spawn, since you may even get spawned near enemies, and its total chaos to play with soo many people. It might sound a bit low, but I think I at least will enjoy it.
I am, however, worried that the servers might be full of latency though...
And mods? Never cared about mods in cod4, why would I now? I played a shitty alien vs marine mod and I hated it so, wont miss them...
I think its still gonna be a great game...
Ok i looked at the thread again.
And i just had to post since i just witnessed the biggest idiot of seen the past couple of months..
Because people at least little remote from the servers will have bad latency.
And I bet they are not going to host them for too long. When MW3 comes, they gonna cut the servers (or even sooner), and you will be no longer able to play MP.
Ok seriously ? Remove Multiplayer ? Thats hilarious
Don't play in a lot of people on a small map :downs:
I don't play "in a lot of people". :downs:

cod4 was shit without promod but with it the game was transformed into an extremely balanced competetive 5 vs 5 shooter. now that the new game cant be modded its gonna be shit

They probably think it will help cull piracy.
Nice thread, I agree with all of it, especially the Dedicated servers part.
Too many retards kick you for nothing
This game is going to crash and burn.
Also, your stupid for liking these changes. Why on earth would 9v9 be fun? Also, no modding? So if the game is shit and there's no patch then NOBODY can patch it? No dedicated servers, so pretty much anyone far away from servers that are probably going to be Central USA will have extreme lag?
Are you retarded or something?
I agree, but still, I'll be getting the game for the SP mostly.
Ok seriously ? Remove Multiplayer ? Thats hilarious
It has happened before, what stops it from happening again? If the game doesn't earn IW enough money they will shut the servers down.
They probably think it will help cull piracy.
In a way it will work since the game will be so shitty it won't be worth pirating.
So what happens when Infinity Ward decides to pull the plug on the IWNet service? Maybe it'll be replaced by a notice that they should really buy Modern Warfare 3.
I don't agree with everything you said, but it's refreshing to see someone being optimistic about MW2 instead of outright bashing it. So I rated you optimistic.
I've been wondering what the exact changes are, not followed Modern Warfare 2 much.
But after reading these I'm definitely not going to waste my money on it. I like big stupid 32 player matches on Crossfire.
hate the 9x9
I don't know about you but the only servers I played on were 32v32 hectic deathmatches
You need a lot of skill to survive in those (even though you'll die of a random grenade eventually)
I've seen nobody mention this so take it into consideration: since IW is going to fully control the servers and their location, how many do you think they're going to put in Australia? or how about Norway? Or what about any other remote place in the world? I have a feeling a LOT of people are going to get shafted and be stuck with high pings and absolutely nothing that you can do about it.
I want the old IW back.
If it's 9v9 that means I can't shit around. If I am playing bad people on my team is going to get pissy.
Now if it was 32v32 no one would really give a fuc if you were doing bad.
I toally agree I don't care about negative comments, this game is just awesome!
Game isn't balanced for lean.
The guns aren't balanced but they still have em.

The main thing about the mods is that it takes away the fun for the people who have fun in CREATING the mod, not the people who use them.
Also the server thing: You are getting this wrong.
With dedicated servers you get quality servers with cool admins, regular servers, fun-time servers, experimental servers, roleplaying servers(yes unlikely but I am looking at the source games servers) PLUS the crappy ones.
Now without them, you get the IW servers only.
Now I will always get good letancy and quality servers. And no dumbass 10 year old admins who ban you for "camping".
What if there is no IW server where you live? Where will you play? Edit: Disregard that, apparently it's peer2peer which is even worse.
What if someone is teamkilling all his teammates? Who will ban him?
You know every online game runs on a P2P format using a thing known as Heartbeat?
You know every online game runs on a P2P format using a thing known as Heartbeat?
Care to explain? I believe my understanding of Heartbeat doesn't apply here.
Care to explain? I believe my understanding of Heartbeat doesn't apply here.
Heartbeat and other things send signals to each other like a P2P signal. I think.
Heartbeat and other things send signals to each other like a P2P signal. I think.
That kind of heartbeat is just a keepalive. Doesn't do anything for connection and latency.
