I've always called Runescape "The Poor Man's World of Warcraft". I'm not shelling out however-much money a month to be able to proudly proclaim to people "I'm a level 42 Ice Wizard!". I used to play Runescape, used to be a member (don't regret it). And then one day I just became incredibly bored with it. But yes, imo, Runescape has the best graphics of any browser game.
Ahahhahaahahahaha.
No.
Ahahahaa. Just because you're an asshole doesn't mean everyone else is.
If Diablo as added to this thread, it and Diablo 2 would reign supreme due to originality and it being the great predecessor to WoW.
Runescape is MUCH better imo, it just sucks now
While correct, this is extremely biased.
WoW > Most other MMOs > Text Based MMOs > RuneScape
They were both good.
They both have been around for too long.
They both obtained a large audience consisting almost entirely out of small children.
They both need to die.
EVE beats WoW in every category you posted.
How the fu...
Okay, you come in here, more than likely skim the OP, express blatant fanboyism, and leave.
You're comparing a space, sci-fi MMO with a player-driven economy while the game revolves primarily around PvP to a fantasy RPG with a leveling system, teamed PvP with a lot more PvE than EVE and...FUCK man, they're totally different. I could make a list but I'd be sitting here for quite a while.
I've played both WoW and EVE, and while I prefer WoW, EVE is still a good game by all means but you can't fucking compare the two. If you want to compare EVE to something compare it to Stargate Worlds or whatever.

A great deal of the WoW population is Adults.
I will either have comments upon (I kinda agree) or disagree with (I disagree with, obviously). Yes I'm for both Runescape and World of Warcraft but I'm disturbed about what I believe is bashing on Runescape, I'm not going to counter-bash as it would be very childish.
-Achievements & Titles-
WoW - Over 900 Achievements with acceptional rewards such as titles, mounts, tabards (Colors), and unlockables at vendors. Some examples of titles: Loremaster <name> or <name>, Champion of the frozen wastes.
Runescape - Runescape has achievements but you have no reason to bother getting them. (Thanks Tc3001)
Runescape has Capes of Achievements when you hit level 99 in any skill and they are extremely good pieces of equipment, pointless? NO!
-Leveling and Quests-
WoW - I guess this categorie is just a matter of opinion. Worlf of Warcraft turns to quests for leveling and/or dungeons/instances/raids. These quests give an exceptional amount of XP and also give rewards such and money and quite often useful equips. Some quests suggest you work in a group or may bring you to a dungeon. Only thing is, the quests are very repetitive. But after 5000+ quests, you know you've run out of ideas.
Runescape - Runescape turns to PvE for leveling. Most quests also give a exceptional amount of XP, but more often then not, shit rewards and the XP eventually also turns to shit and quests become utterly useless. Although, some quests do unlock certain areas and abilities for specific kinds of players. Quests are original and non repetitive, but their aren't many.
True, there are only around 155 quests in Runescape though harder ones tend to have higher skill requirements. There's also the fact that Jagex usually throws one each month or two when they're not busy patching bugs or tweaking minigames.
-Scenery & Loading (Should make more sense now, Ty Tc3001)-
WoW - One of the most awesome things in WoW would have to be the scenery. I mean come on. You can fly through all of Kalimdor or whatever and never see a loading screen (Unless teleporting). WoW has BEAUTIFUL scenery and you can often see quite far while flying.
Runescape - You can't walk for more than 2 minutes without coming across a loading screen. Now don't tell me there's no way to avoid this and it's impossible to make it so there's no loading screens. "BUT RUNESCAPE IS A BROWSER GAME!" Isn't a good excuse. The scenery is exceptional but can't be enjoyed like in WoW.
Not completely true, its inevitable to face the "loading screen of annoyance" once in a while but it all depends on your computer's processing power and your internet connection. For me, its normally a second or less.
-Travelling (As requested by Tc3001)-
WoW - Mounts, a quicker way to get around for a cost at a certain level. Normal riding is at level 30 (60% Faster), epic riding is at level 60 (100% Faster), expert flying is at 70 (60% in the air) and artisan flying is also at 70 for 5 times the price (280%-310% in the air). Mages can only teleport and open portals for party members and themselves.
Runescape - Runescape doesn't have mounts. They do have teleports though. Anyone with a high level of magic can teleport with the right regeants. Although, Runescape does lack a mass-person port. Yeah, you can teleport your friend, but you can't use the portal yourself. Thus, making you use several ports for several people including yourself.
There are other means of travel, a good example would be the gnome glider system where you can go almost anywhere without costing anything. Usually alternative traveling methods require the completion of quests to use.
-Customer Support-
Blizzard (WoW) - You can fucking call these people about anything. Banned, Billing, problems in-game ect. That's right! If some shit went wrong, you can SPEAK to a LIVE person on the PHONE. Or, if having troubles in game, you can open a ticket to speak with a GM in-game. After waiting a couple of hours or so, you can chat with a GM in game about any problems you are experiencing in-game. And most of the time, they actually help. Do not use "Yeah well you pay 15$ a month so you better get customer support!" As an excuse, you pay 5$ (If member) a month and you still get shit.
Jagex (Runescape) - Oh god the stupidest shit that's happened to me in this fucking game. I got permabanned for typing a qp w. It supposedly LOOKED like a penis and I have no idea to defend myself. I mean come the fucking on, beckon emote looks like you're sucking someone off. No contact, some email that probably gets deleted when received, and definatelly no in-game support. Jagex is fucking terrible when it comes to customer support. Any arguements in this field will be ignored simply because you just can't do anything about anything that's happened to you.
Ha! You said only arguments will be ignored! Yeah the customer support on Runescape can be so tedious that it barely sucks off a dead man's balls and its only via the website itself, but for members it can be much less horrid. Jagex does eventually get to you if of course you are a subscribing member and would refund you, better than no shit right?
-Story-
WoW - Anyone who says WoW has no story is simply a fucking idiot. WoW was CREATED on a story. WoW was either going to be a movie or a game, a game obviously turned out to be a better choice. The story of WoW is called The Lore. If you read the lore, chances are you can know what to except in the coming years of WoW. There is WAY to much story to explain. Look it up if you're that curious.
Runescape - From my understanding, here's Runescape in a nutshell: Ohai gaiz i haz a sworded and a shield i hit people yayz lolol omg haha mage person. How fucking intense. Discuss if you think there's some kind of story behind the ENTIRE game not 1 quest chain that you do.
Are you serious? Even though Runescape did not really have any story behind it for a while barely hanging on the three main gods, it jump-started at the first 3D Runescape (also known as RS2). There are many quest chains in Runescape and they are fairly long, from the ever-growing classic of the White Knights VS Black Knights (knight wars?) to the troubled desert priests barely hanging on against the "Devourer" [sp](who is some ancient bitch trying to destroy everything, especially the kitties because of a magical allergy)[/sp].
-Classes & Races-
WoW - Okay, here goes. Undead, Bloodelf, Orc, Troll, Torn, Nightelf, Gnome, Dwarf, Human and Draenie. All of which could play as Mage, Druid, Warlock, Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, and a Deathknight at level 55. By the way, the races are split into 2 teams, Horde and Alliance. Not only could you play all of those classes, but each one can have a different talent build. You can be a frost mage, fire mage, arcange mage, boomkin, tank, ect.
Runescape - This shouldn't take to long. Warrior, Mage, Archer. Well... if you're feeling adventurous I guess you can make your character black to say he's a different race. If anyone is to have special "talents" it's only mages. Mages can get there ancient shit after a long and hard quest. But, that's about it. A warrior hits you with his sword and hopes he hits well, an archer assaults you with arrows, and a mage fires magic fury at you.
By means of combat you can hybrid between the combat classes to prepare or survive the situation. A mage could wear melee armor to better protect himself from melee and ranged attacks but suffer from damage output. Specializing? Straightforward. Hybriding? Not so.
-The combat "Triangle"-
WoW - Not so much of a triangle for WoW. You can basically kill anyone in your level range with SKILL. Yes, that's something you must possess. You need timing, powerful and quick buff techniques, access to all your damaging instant casts to take out that last bit of health, and health spells. You can also battle 1-1 as you please if the other person accepts your invite. That's right, ANYWHERE! (Well, except civilized major cities)
Ruenscape - Put simply, Warrior beats Archer, Archer beats Mage, Mage beats Warrior. If you're on the wrong end of that triangle, don't waste your time. If your fighting someone of the same class, it's basically who has more food and who hits first. Here's a demo of a runscape fight: "Haha i hit you hard that time, you're almost dead. Yeah so are you! But I have strengh pots to take you out and I got first hit. Yeah but you're outta food SAFER LOLOLOLOL SAFER WTF NOOB HAHAHA *Runs outta wildy*. Did I mention you can flee and end the fight as you please and heal in combat for everlasting battles? Fucking awesome right? <- That was sarcasm.
With Bounty Hunter worlds there are basically no safe zones in reach of the good "hot zones" where drops are dramatically worth more but at the same time much more dangerous (higher level gap fighting), trust me if you want your visit to be worth while you MUST GO HOT (zone). In PvP minigames? Running can be more of a hazard than a safeguard, especially in Duel Tournaments (nowhere to run, HURF DURF).
-Guilds & Clans-
WoW - WoW has guilds in which many people can join ON INVITE and have a fancy shmancy guild title under their name. Guilds have their own chat and ranks in which you can access the guild bank. The guild bank rights are set by the guild leader. Anyone can deposit, most can withdraw some, few can take the whole thing. (Usually trusted people promoted by the leader) You can level with guildmates, raid with guildmates, fucking talk about what you fap to with guildmates all in the privacy of your chat.
Runescape - Clans. I'm sorry, I don't get that thing. You join someones name on demand that a lvl 3 person who just started playing can join and you basically do nothing. You can chat I guess. OH OH WAIT! You can go in the wildy to 1-1 with a nice person who just wants to have a friendly sparr. Then when you're at the end of the wildy, you and you clan thing can ambush him and then laugh at how much he sucks because he couldn't take all 7 of you on at once. Wow that nice person who wanted a 1-1 must fucking suck to not be able to take on those 7 guys at once, what a fucking noob. <- Sarcasm aswell. If only you had some AoE's...
Bias radar flying out the fucking window (sarcasm?)! Look here: when there is a bad clan, there must be a good one right? If you said "no", you are stuck staring at the desperate low-leveled "clan leaders" in Lumbridge.
-Parties-
WoW - Put simply, you can share experience from killing things in a party, leveling with parties, do instances with parties, raid with parties, and teleport others in parties.
Runescape - Last I checked, there was no such thing.
Actually parties are pretty much similar in Runescape as in World of Warcraft and I'm not even defending here, did you take a glance at a well-organized God Wars party? They got all the (good) shit to make it out of there with millions!
-Player's attitudes-
WoW - I have NEVER seen nicer people in a game. My RL friend thought it would be funny to port me to Outlands after telling to he found a great leveling spot that required me to drop my hearthstone. Some RANDOM person that I had just met walked me back to civilization. This took an hour and a half. He actually dropped what he was doing and walked me back one hour and thirty minutes. Also if you need help with a group quest, you can use the /who function to find a level 80 in the area who can be your angel for a short while. Put simply, WoW people are awesome.
Runescape - Hey can you help me kill this guy, he's tough. GTFO NOOB CAN'T YOU SEE I NEED TO DO THINGS GTFO NOOB LOLOLOL I HAZ MORE MONEY THAN YOU MAKE MONEY YOURSELF LEVELING YOURSELF COOK YOURSELF FOOD DO EVERYTHING YOURSELF BECAUSE I HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO YOU FUCKING FNOOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!@@@@!!!1one!!@
I've been on World of Warcraft and it was no different than the community in Runescape or in any MMO. If you were a member and you attened a "house party", sorry to say this but you only saw a minority of the overall community of Runescape. Most players with bad experiences with certain players often take that and assume everyone else is such and such in any MMO, you've got to find the right crowd or you could end up ranting on anyone else who doesn't deserve it.
-Insurance-
WoW - Everyday, Blizzard takes 5 screenshots of your account. If you ever get hacked, contact blizzard and they will do a full investigation and most likely endup giving back your items and money.
Runescape - Hahahahahahahahaha no.
Too damn bad, Jagex is not as big as Blizzard. Yeah I'm kinda jumping on that bandwagon but the best you could do in Runescape is to seal your belongings behind a in-game bank pin.
-Refering a friend-
WoW - In WoW, you can recruit a friend. If you do so and he/she buys a month, you get a free month, 3x XP when training together, summoning abilities, and if he gets 2 months, an exclusive epic riding mount. The link between your accounts lasts 3 months.
Runescape - Umm... Jagex couldn't give a fuck less.
From pure opinion I believe Jagex's style of increasing player count is somewhat unique. Its not that they don't care, its that the players themselves recommend it to others in varied ways (besides, why the fuck you won't give a fuck if you want to make money?).
If i had the choice, between WoW and Runescape, it would be WoW everytime. WoW is a bigger game with more fans and there are plenty of ways to play it. The game play is great the ideas are incredible. content is added regulaly, its just a very well planed game. runescape, i have played and don't say i havn't when i have. i have reached a pretty high level and i'm sad. runescape is hard to controle, the gameplays shit, the graphics are shit, the quest giving is shit, it involves more text than gameplay and its crudley put together. Yes you do pay more for WoW but if you ask me its worth it, if you don't think so, thats fine i can't say what you should think. BUT what i can do is try and make sure you don't just disregard my points and say i'm wrong. that would just be stupid and ignorent
I don't even see why there would be an argument or a comparison different people have different choices doesn't matter what anyone thinks because everyone will always have a different opinion.
Am I the only person who used to play SWG
Ever heared of "Fusion Fall" http://www.fusionfall.com/splashpage.html runs in a website to!
loading screens = zero it loads a bit every so often about every 5 minutes of walking around

Still, there are plenty of adults there.
You never picked up the awesome stuff about RS.
And the player community on RS is good, IMO. I've never met any angry people.
RuneScape can be fucking intense sometimes.
I love Rune Scape, I haven't played in a while, but that game is constantly getting updated recently, and it's really shaping up to be great. Not to mention there next MMO has been in production for 3 years and is nearing Release. (Mechscape/StellarDawn)

Hopefully they will make membership more than £3.20 so even the 5 year old can't afford it
I used to play RS, when i was younger. Looking back, the community is shit, everyone tries to talk in L337SP34K, and the victor in a fight of the same class is the one with the most money
I have to agree with this. Even though I'm currently looking to Champs Online, the community is really kind in WoW (Mind you, I only play the Horde). Short on cash? Ask and eventually a nice fellow will come along and help you out or run you through an instance. Runescape? Except for trade, there is pretty much no interaction between players that are not friends besides "You are noob"
How about testing that?
How about one person who owns world of warcraft will compare the reactions for money begging in both games?
The guide on the first page seemed quite biased. Your never going to get someone who will favour both games the same.
Runescape is free. End of story.
Runescape is a browser game bro.
Runescape is an MMO centered on adventuring. WoW is an MMO centered on being the best you can be.
[editline]03:10PM[/editline]
and runescape is a free browser mmo made in java and playable on a pentium 2
OP is a WoW fanboy.
I have played both games for years, both paying and private servers (and free for RS). I have found that while WoW obviously has a lot more content and is bigger in size, in game or out, RS is put together better. They didn't cram RS full of so much content that you could play for years and still not see everything, but they didn't leave out anything that was needed to make it a great game.
Just some examples:
Both are MMORPGs.
RS is free but you can P2P, WoW is P2P only.
RS is a browser based game, WoW requires 15GB (not including expansions).
WoW has 8 races, RS has 1.
Wow has 6 classes, RS has 3.
WoW has 15 professions (can only use 3), RS has 24(can use all(15 F2P, 9 P2P).
I could go on all day, but both are good games. RS is more for the younger crowd(but older people play it too), while WoW is the opposite. RS can be played on almost any computer, WoW can't.
It's too hard to choose what is better, both are different, but are good.
One if the things that makes RS better imo is that you can be all the classes(mage, warrior, priest, ranged, hunter) and you are not just limited to 1.
EDIT: I think I just answered the question on the topic, lol.
The only problem runescape has is that the main playerbase is ever decreasing in age and the content is becoming more and more hard to get and riciculous. Runescape is bad now because the developers caved to the 8 year old player base.
Back in middle school when everyone played, the game was a lot better because it was less moderated and the quests were accesible to everyone, now the new content requires ridiculous skills and moderators are all over the place.
I could say something about WoW's "glory days" but all that I'm going to say is that blizzard has a problem with fixing large problems (wintergrasp)
How about testing that?

Gah I love money begging reactions in WoW. If you see a beggar, tell him that a place is glitched so that if you set your hearthstone there, it will give you lots of money. (Hearthstone is the free teleport thing, It's initially set to a low level city, but you can set it to any major city/settlement/camp that you want.) Get a warlock and port them to some high level area. They set their hearthstone, and now they're stuck there with no way out. If they try to walk out, they get 1 shotted by one of the monsters around there.

They recognize this and are taking the first steps to make it more mature
(18+ worlds)
That's about as efficient as age verification for watching videos.
Having it say 18+ only attracts more kids.
