I don't care if this has been mentioned before, but holy shit I did not want to read 2 more pages of bickering.
If you really wanted to compare two popular games together that have similar systems and cost the exact same, it would be EverquestII and WoW. Not Runescape and WoW.
Achievements and titles There are way too many titles in everquest, but i'm not sure if there are any achievements. I don't see why you would want them in the first place. If you want achievements, go with WoW, otherwise they are equal.
PVP They is equal, foo.
Higher level of maturity? EverquestII, as 90% of the game's population is 24 or older. I'm not saying that WoW has less mature players, or that age determines your maturity, but i've never seen trollish behavior in EverquestII.
Scenery/Loading? I suppose that's based on preference if you want cartoony(WoW) or realistic(EverquestII). The loading times are fairly similar between both games.
Customer Support. I would actually say they are equal.
Story Equal.
Servers Currently it costs $50 to transfer a character from server to server in EverquestII, however it's been rumored they would eventually just combine all of the servers. For now, i'll say WoW is better in this regard.
Guilds EverquestII has everything in the guild system that WoW has, but it has a couple of added bonuses on top of it. Unique quests to gain experience for your guild. Depending on the level of the guild you can get a emblem/design on your cloak, and your guild bank's slots increase.
Public test realm Both have one.
Mounts? Both have them.
Classes and Races? WoW[10 races, 10 classes] EverquestII[19 races, 24 classes]
I don't feel like spending more time on such a stupid subject in a stupid thread that started on a date that is somewhat old now. But if anyone wants to make a more accurate comparison, here's two sources you can look at.

It should die and never come back.
To be fair, Runescape DOES have a party system called lootshare.
Also, Runescape was most peoples first MMO because it was free and required no download.
It was quite fun and the professions were always addicting.
Mine was adventure quest, not exactly online but its in browser,I played runescape, sucked ass, then played WoW,Epic,Then Talisman Online,Even better, then everquest,Better than all.

Wow has guild tabards, and tons of guild bank slots. The only thing it doesn't have is Guild quests, which I don't think is a good Idea anyway because it would be a pain in the ass to get a bunch of people together just for the sake of XP. If I needed it I would quest myself and save the heartache of trying to round up people.
Jesus, I'm so glad you didn't add my shitty WoW vs RS video.
I made it 3 years ago for a friend, and it spawned thousands of comments, 60k+ views and too many mails to me.
I don't really think you can.
They're both different approaches on MMO's.
I've never really liked RS because of mediocre graphics alongside mediocre gameplay / game mechanics.

this is a WoW vs Runescape thread, what does everquest have anything to do with this thread?
I used to be one of the shitty players who said "Jagex ownz Blizzard lol" But now that I have played both games, Runescape has one thing over WoW: Skills. And honestly, that can be a downside depending on how you look at it.
Runescape is good for a game that is free(Well it has a alot of f2p things)
WoW is good for a game you have to pay for

I thought it would be better to compare two similar games that are on the same playing field.

-Classes & Races-
Okay, here goes. Undead, Bloodelf, Orc, Troll, Torn, Nightelf, Gnome, Dwarf, Human and Draenie. All of which could play as Mage, Druid, Warlock, Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, and a Deathknight at level 55.
OP you left Shaman out of that list of classes, which is one of the best classes IMO.
Also here's my 2 cents, I have played runescape before (for like a week), and also have played WoW for longer.
It just isn't fair to compare the games, Blizzard is a titan right now, they are making 15 dollars a month off of over 10 million people right now. MUCH more with the merchandise. They have a lot more money to spend than Jagex will ever have. They've got over 4000 employee's, thousands of computers, over petabyte of shit.
I've read Jagex horror stories about how terribad they are. Frankly, I don't understand who would care, or why when you click I agree on the ToS, you say that you'll follow the rules or there will be consequences, if they wrongfully ban you, or are very harsh, QQMOAR its a browser based game, get a fucking job, or download D&D or ROM, move the fuck on! Someone's an idiot to say "RUNESCAPE IS BETTER THAN WOW CUZ ITS FREE LAWLOLAWLO" and a WoW player is stupid to say "RUNESCAPE SUCKS IT DOESN'T HAVE NEAR THE FEATURES WOW DOES LOL!!" Money is the issue
For a free game, Runescape was probably one of the best, even though I didn't like it that much, in the week or so I played I fairly enjoyed it. It's not fair to compare it to WoW it is not fair and it never will be fair.
Runescape is free, WoW is not.
If you like Free games play runescape.
If you don't mind paying play WoW.
Also, I think WoW has a bit of a steeper learning curve.

There's no point in playing a free game when it's not fun. And Runescape just sucks balls all-around, especially compared to other free MMOs.
If runescape wasn't fun, how come so many people play?
Obviously the entire playerbase of Runescape are retarded masochists because there's no way you could be wrong.
Well, you've got half of that right.
Yeah, the first half.
Pfft, the wow learning curve is a joke.

Ok, here is my opinion: I like them both, I like wow more then runescape in some aspects though. Yes runescape has good professions and some what “pvp”. Wow may lack professions but it has: 1. Raids, 2. Good Pvp, 3. Awesome races and classes, and 4. Good character customization. With all these factors combined, and it is just my opinion to say that World of Warcraft is over all a better game, and also my favorite of the two.
-snip- I'm getting too pissed off at this...
Now, in my PERSONAL opinion, keep in mind I've played both games, is that they are incomparable. RuneScape is one of those games that you can play when you are bored or waiting for something else to happen, and it's not incredibly boring or really fun. WoW, is a completely different game! You're supposed to immerse yourself into the game world, and it's meant to be played more seriously than RuneScape is. As stated before in the thread, there is a difference between browser-based games and full on programs that take up space on your hard drive. So, in the end, they are COMPLETELY incomparable as games, and therefore should be left as such.

The learning curve has mostly to do with memorizing things.

Incorrect. From the very very start of the game, common sense just takes over, and its complete easy mode.
Tips help a lot. Not to mention the TONS of players around that you can ask for help. It just seems easy, the ! and the ? the directions, the mini map and world map, It's just easy mode. From the very start, Runescape is way more steep with learning, even after Tutorial Island.
Time to base Runescape for lols:
Progress bar for skills? Who needs that! Randomly getting things while watching a repeated animation over and over is much better!
Hotkeys? BAH! That's being lazy! Why press a key when you can go through selecting the attack type THEN selecting the spell, ALL BY MOUSE!
Mounts? Who needs those! Walking is much more fun!
Why have a spirit healer when you die? Losing almost all your items and teleporting halfway across the world is AWESOME!
More to come? Maybe so!

LOL, oh man, I mean...
LOL OMFG..
Can I haz ur babiez?
Nicely done, though you are a bit hostile towards RuneScape and you seem to hate it.
But what would you expect from a browser game vs. a full retail game ?
Runescape used to be alot better. Today I hate it, WoW has so much more to offer and just keeps you paying for it. =)

My results after comparing World of Warcraft to Runescape
Weapons and Armor
In Runescape, you have almost short of nothing for armor, however in World of Warcraft, you have unlimited possibilities of armor and weapons, depending on each class and the skill you can wear on your class and race.
Races
On the Races, World of Warcraft totally beats Runescape's butt, with about 12 races, with a new 2 races coming out in Catalysm, as Runescape having one, and the customizable system on Runescape being shit, and the WoW one having unstable quantities of different charecters.
Skill
Runescape takes almost no skill, and almost all of your time, farming logs, cowhide and planks, however, World of Warcraft takes an medium ammount of skill, and less concentration, with the new abilities of autorun, autowalk and machinima, people can harness Warcraft's great power.
Total Results
Runescape gets an dimwitted 2/10 for it's bad quality features, or should I say feature.
World of Warcraft gets an outstanding review of 10/10 for it's amazing quality, features and design, a good thumbs up for the Blizzard team.

So umm you just gave WoW 10/10 because of shit most browser games don't even need to be good what kind of review is that if it was mine I'd give it at least 8/10
For Runescape you can't expect much its a browser game I give it a 5/10
I mean from what Blizzard does with WoW I would have to rate it different ways as in Character Customization is a 1/10 for me due to the fact its shit and only lets you do basic things like Facial Hair and Hair if it had more color to it I would rate it a bit better Its just so plain. Here is mine
==============================================================
Runescape Armor-8/10
Runescape Character Customization-3/10
Runescape Weapons-5/10
Runescape Travel-10/10 (Its a browser game it don't need mounts)
Class Selection-10/10
Overall-5/10
==============================================================
WoW Armor-9/10 (One off because of Armor looking gay until higher levels)
WoW Character Customization-1/10
WoW Weapons-10/10
WoW Travel-10/10
WoW Class Selection-10/10
Overall-8/10
Hey guys lets bash a game that runs on your browser that is huge knowing its on a browser.
I've been around the block with both these games and heres how I go with em'
Joey's comparison of WoW and Runescape
Player attitudes
I really can't mark how long I've played Runescape or World of Warcraft but too say the least both communties have fair attitudes from their players. Now a lot of people will look at me ,and ask "How do you mark fair?" Well to be honest I've seen the worst and the best of both games...
I remeber in WoW I was at a city, fishing ,and it got raided. I didn't realize it was under attack till a dwarf came up too me ,and got ready to fight. I turned around ,and basically said, "Hey! Hold up... I'm just fishing" when I said this the guy leaved me alone ,and didn't bug me again till he asked me too leave so they could fully conquer the city.
On the other hand, another time in WoW I was stat training with my friend Josh. Now this would of been all fine and dandy if it wasn't for the fact some little runt came along begging to be in our party. My friend Josh basically gave him two words, "Fuck you" of course the kid then flipped shit and attempted to report us while cussing us out saying "Omfg you fucking noobs you two suck dick with each other don't you?!"
Alright now that I got WoW down lets move to Runescape...
Playing Runescape I believe I've met some really great people ,and some I've come to respect till this day. I remeber before the trade balance system I lost all my money from a scam... (Fuck me) It was embarssing for the fact I was littearly walking around the streets begging for some money. When someone asked me why I was begging I told em' my story and they gave me about 50k... Now I forgot to mention this but at the time I was level thirty so 50k was pretty summed amount. The guy then left ,and I never heard from him again.
Then there was another time when I was mining and someone felt like being a little dick and coming stealing the item I was mining on.... At first it didn't bug me ,but then he did it again, and again... I eventually confronted him,and asked him to stay on the rock he was facing while I use this one. He replied, "Fu nub im ur pwnzor."
There's some decent enough people in Runescape, but as in most free MMOs you get bucketloads of immature/non-English speaking/idiot kids. That's a simple reason for me to quit.
@JoeSkylynx If you were Horde and the city was attacked by Allies, they can't understand you?
