• Cave Story - Best Freeware Game Ever

Ballos wasn't that hard once you figured out how to beat him relatively safely. There's even a point where you can grind for health. Playing the game a second time just made it more awesome.
I FUCKING HATE THE DRAGONS. I hate them. I can't beat the twins.
It is indeed the best freeware game ever. Ballos was a cunt of a boss though. Protip- get through the area with the rocket before it's built, either by cheating or having the machine gun and Booster 2.0. Funny little "You're not supposed to be here." easter egg.
Of course Ballos was a cunt. :v:
Mario meets Metroid.
I FUCKING HATE THE DRAGONS. I hate them. I can't beat the twins.
Just assrape them with level three missiles. Also, simply shooting them will make them stop emitting fireballs.
Looks like pure shit.
Looks like pure shit.
You should try it.
Okay.
I played up to where to fight the core the first time. When Curly died, I just had to restart because I felt bad. :v: Now that I got the good ending where you and curly escape, i'm happy.
Looks like pure shit.
Does this look better?
Does this look better?
Needs more bloom, more brown, and less color to apparently be "not look like shit".
Almost finished. The end is so hard.
Why king? Why?!
I don't really have patience for games that think intentionally looking like shit from the 80's is a good idea. Bad pix, no clix. :/ I mean, even N, the quintessential piece in pixel art looks nice and smooth because it can look nice and smooth. There's no significant processing power or other hardware or software limitations. So why should it look like shit? Yet it maintains a distinct pixel art style with no problem.

[editline]06:14PM[/editline] also why did you bump this from 2008 spaztron
I don't really have patience for games that think intentionally looking like shit from the 80's is a good idea. Bad pix, no clix. :/
Have a guess how many people were in the development team, dumbshit.
Have a guess at how hard creating 80's graphics on non 80's hardware is compared to just creating graphics then. I see before me more effort. Not less.

Balrog's Theme kicks ass.
Pixel graphics are awesome and it doesn't take away from the game at all, it adds to it.
It looks like shit to me. Definitely takes away from it, it tells me "this game is too old to be fun in 2010", or "the designers are massive douchebags who think they are cool by appealing to people who live in the past."
It's MEANT to look like old-school games. Even the music uses NES-style chiptunes. If you're going to be a graphicswhore and just bitch because the game doesn't look like Crysis or Unreal Engine 3, then would you just kindly leave already?
I don't want oldschool games, nobody should want oldshcool games. Oldschool games suck. I have no patience for these games because they aren't fun. You might say "gameplay over graphics" and all. But when they choose that visual style, chances are they chose the gameplay styles of that era too. Styles that are worn out beyond repair. Usually these shitty oldshcool graphics are accompanied by equally shitty outdated "oldschool" gameplay. I am a graphics whore yes, but nothing wrong with that, the graphics are part of the experience too. I want a whole experience, not good gameplay that looks like shit, and not shitty gameplay that looks amazing. And least of all shitty gameplay that looks like shit.

You're so ignorant and close-minded it makes me want to kill myself. Go play Modern Warfare 2 with the rest of your little friends.

For me the sheer brilliance in the story would have balanced out the "boring" gameplay and graphics if I was a graphics whore. Cave Story was one of my favorite games of all time, wayyyyy better than MW2 and most recent games out there.
Yeah I guess I am under informed to say for sure if it's good or bad. All I'm saying is that it looks bad, and that it isn't good marketing to look bad. "Bad pix, no clix" if you understand? I tend to be weary of committing to new media. I'd rather let it find me. I seem to have a bit of a sixth sense regarding what I'll like or not. Spidey-sense is tingling "bad" on this one. I don't know.

The PC version this thread links to is free, so you can just bloody download it and have it playing in a couple of minutes. Now, the Wii version on the other hand costs about 1200-1500 Wii points. But eh. This is about the PC version. Edit: By the way, it's an indie game. Pixel, the creator, did most of the work himself. Think about that.
ITT: BmB attempts to troll. He is 12.

It's charming and full of life, unlike the sterile wannabe-photorealistic environments found in games like Crysis and FFXIII. Such games have no soul, graphics wise. They're boring as fuck and they completely miss the point of what games are supposed to be. If you're too fucking stupid to understand this, you shouldn't call yourself a gamer. You're just another idiot muddying up the name of the gamer by allowing large video game companies to peddle their piles of shit to you. Furthermore, N is a flash game. It uses vector art- not pixel art. You're fucking retarded, please apply the sharpest object within reach to your face as soon as possible. It's for the good of mankind.
The only freeware game I have played that came close to Cave Story was Iji.
