It's not pixel art per say, no. But I've never seen an art style more encompassing of the words "pixel art" than N.
But it's not pixel art. It doesn't even look like pixel art. It's boring and bland. It doesn't even focus on the art, it's not charismatic at all. http://www.pixeljoint.com/ You're a fucking idiot.
Am I the only one who didn't have any problems with ballos? I kept getting fucked up by those dragons, tough.
Am I the only one who didn't have any problems with ballos? I kept getting fucked up by those dragons, tough.
Provided that you save your life pot for the Ballos fight you should be able to survive it. I think that the Sacred Grounds / Hell is the main reason that people have such a hard time with Ballos. You have all your weapons downgraded to level 1, spikes are everywhere, and you have rocks raining down, Buttes swarming you and shooting off arrows everywhere and Presses trying to crush you. It's easy to mess up and die from too many things trying to kill you at once, and by the time people reach Ballos they're not expecting a four-stage final boss. Especially if you got the Nikumaru Counter and see the timer mysteriously activating, so you try to get though the Sacred Grounds as fast as possible. The Sisters are an optional boss though, if you leave the missile upgrade alone you can pass through that chamber without starting the fight. If you focus your fire on the Sister that has their mouth open then you should be able to survive relatively unscathed. By that point any one of the three upgraded weapons should be under your disposal and if you stand at the center and fire off to the sides you can beat them. In true Cave Story boss fighting style, the fireballs are destructable, so if you're having a ton of trouble try using the level three Bubbler to make a shield while you wait for them to attack seperately.

It's a fucking sidescroller, if you don't like it why don't you go argue opinions elsewhere? Nobody gives a shit about the marketing, if it doesn't appeal to you, fuck off.
I am tolerant of the style itself, not the eye bleeding resolution and thoughtless colours it is presented in. N is very much an excersize in what a pixel art game would look like if it wasn't pixel art.
I personally thought the presentation in this game was spot on from the art to the music Honestly, the first time that I hit the 'outside' wall-climbing level I thought that was as atmospheric as the first time you stepped outside in Fallout 3
Agh. I hate the Labriynth. Especially bloody Monster X. Doesn't help that there's no health/ammo refills beforehand besides the physician, so you have to farm the monsters for spare missiles and energy.. Also probably doesn't help that I traded for the machinegun, but eh.

She's a better shot with it and the Spur and Snake are excellent weapons. The Blade level three can provide a kind of a shield against Monster X's projectiles and if you're patient and watch the boss's movements you can destroy it without too much damage.

I have the Machine Gun, Missile Launcher, Fireball, and Bubbler. Did I miss something? And I switched because the lvl 3 boosting from the Machine Gun is so extremely helpful (cheated with it and reached the top of the starting Labriynth room in seconds without a scratch). But eh..

But eh..
I did that too when I first played through, don't worry about it. Next time though, you can trade the Fireball and the Polar Star to make the Snake, a gun that fires wavy blasts that pass through terrain. There's also a third weapon that you can get if you choose to not get either, the Spur. But the machine gun is great for cover fire and for destroying enemy projectiles, so I would keep the gun, it's rather useful. You should also have King's Blade, which is damn useful for close range fights. I relied on that alone to beat Pooh Black and Monster X when doing a hard Mode 3-heart run.
Getting a 404 when I try to download it.

Well, I loaded up an alternate save from before the Sand Zone, and reached the Labryinth Shop with the Polar Star. With the vertical boosting from the Machine Gun before, I never realized how goddamn tough Sand Zone was without it. Would anyone recommend going for the Spur or taking the Snake?

Would anyone recommend going for the Spur or taking the Snake?
Personally, I reccomend the Spur over the Snake. The Snake is a typical levelling weapon, while the Spur can never downgrade and, at its weakest, will always fire level three Polar Star shots. Holding the fire button charges the gun instead, and a one-second charge for a level three laser will obliterate most enemies and carve huge chunks out of bosses' health. If you get that you can get the Whimsical Star, which lets three small stars fly around the screen and slightly assist you in combatting enemies. The Snake can shoot through walls though, and is helpful for taking out enemies when you're hiding or under cover. Really it's your choice. Both are great weapons, but I prefer the Spur.
I wish I could undo PSP 6.20 firmware so I could get this on my PSP. Great game! Edit: Okay, I can't beat the first boss. Help? (Yeah, I know I'm awful)
Nevermind beat him just had to level up weapons. Wow, this is awesome. Especially Balrog.
I really want to finish this game, but I always get half way through the last boss, die, then completely lose interest.
I really want to finish this game, but I always get half way through the last boss, die, then completely lose interest.
Which last boss?
Which last boss?
The doctor. When he goes all hulk on my ass I always get raped.
The doctor. When he goes all hulk on my ass I always get raped.
The first Doctor fight is unique in being one of the only two boss battles in the game to not have blastable enemies, so try to keep your distance and keep firing until he loses control of his powers and becomes frenzied. In his frenzied form he'll try to physically charge you most of the time, so when he reappears from a teleport jump over him and keep moving, blasting him when he pauses. When he releases the tons of bats aim straight for him or use King's sword level 3 to clear the bats. if you have the Booster v0.8 then you can use your life pot freely, but if you have the iron bond then save the life pot for later. Because his first form doesn't release any power gems you can use the Nemesis without fear of downgrading if you traded the Blade for that. Keep shooting and dodging and you should be able to survive his onslaught.

I think there's a glitch in the sand zone. There's a puppy in the save room where Curly is, but I can't pick it up, it just keeps saying "arf". help?

Once you do that you should be able to pick him up.
fuuuuuuuuck balross, god damn. He is impossible. Probably shouldn't have traded away my blade.
Doctor is pretty predictable to be honest, if you get Nemesis, the match should be a breeze. At least, I found it easy. [editline]05:28PM[/editline] Balros is (in) the HELL.
Did you talk to the Colon in the front room about Jenka's puppies? Once you do that you should be able to pick him up.
Hooray, it worked. Thanks! Although you shouldn't have to talk to someone to pick up the item you already know you need...
This game is fucking amazing.
If any of you are either tired of Cave Story "The Underside" is a nice clone/tribute but an awesome game nonetheless. www.superfundungeonrun.com Ballos, that ball shaped sunavabitch, was quite easy if you kept the blade at Lvl 2
