So I have a server right now, but it's hosted in god damn France, and that's no good. I'm tempted to get a server with brohoster, but I just have one question.
I saw this thread a while ago (when the pre-order deal thing was still going) and I thought I saw something about being able to use Minecraft Overviewer, but it seems to be gone now. That's pretty much the only thing holding me back right now. Will we be able to use the Overviewer with brohoster?
Technically all overviewer does is generate a webpage, but I can't be having websites hosted off of the minecraft boxes and I'm fairly certain overviewer is CPU intensive as well. You can however download the world via FTP and then use it locally and upload to your website of choice.

That's good enough for me. I'll be buying a server shortly.
So does that mean Dynmap isn't allowed?
And any ETA on when we can install Plugins through the Game Server Panel? Some installed(such as MCBans) are already updated.
This sounds awesome, but I'm not sure how it will work out with me as an EU user.
Just brought the 256mb Minecraft server. It's just me and a friend who will be playing on it for now, so 256 should be fine. I'm really impressed with the set up speed!
Thanks bro :D

Edit: The server seems to lag a bit, is that normal?
yeah me and my friends are getting lag spike action too
Hi Matt,
It's an issue we're currently working on - everyone is experiencing the exact same thing at the exact same time for an unknown reason.

EDIT: Server just went down & back up, maybe it's fixed.
EDIT 2: DynMap got disabled on my server, but it still appears to be having issues.
EDIT 3: Can't connect now after I timed out.
EDIT 4: Minequery & MCBans disabled, issue still there.
EDIT 5: There were 3 java processes running from my server - he removed & issue is still there, then JWJ bumped it to 1024 MB & still... Server hates us.
EDIT 6: JWJ thinks it must be the hard disk drive.
My server is currently the guinea pig of the testing, constantly down & back up. Temp changed it to 1024MB from 256MB.
How many players would the 256 support?

Lately it's been normal, their trying to figure it out.
Just bought a server. I've heard the hosting is great. I look forward to it being active!
Not having Dynmap would be a deal breaker for me :smith:
I was considering switching.
If it is eventually allowed, would 30 people run on smoothly with only 1GB of memory?
No wares intended, but would brohoster do cracked server hosting on request? Just curious, not asking for myself.
You can have as many players as you want and DynMap has nothing to do with the lag so I'll allow it.
After a few days of testing various factors (woohoo scientific method) we basically narrowed it down to the hard drives having some MAJOR writing issue. Minecraft saves constantly, and the hard drives for whatever reason always have slow speeds and very often just completely lock up. We're currently chatting with our DC about the issue and will probably have the hard drives replaced.

Yeah, the only thing we control about your server is the server IP and the amount of RAM you get. Everything else is up to you. [sp]no malicious plugins obviously[/sp]
That's our plan. I asked in the MC thread what plugins should be available for autoinstall.
www.bukkit.org Put all the plugins they have in there Bro! Also I sent a messege to ask about the services, get back to me on that one, Im planning to buy a bunch o servers from a better host.

Alright, good to know. Thanks for the reply!

I got your email, replying now. As far as putting all the plugins, that's no easy task :v:
I think they're making some sort of API or list or some sort soon? Once that's done I could look into it.

Once Fill is complete I am sure they will make something like that.
Preview release is getting close

Well i'm glad to see it's a recognised problem and your sorting it. :)

It's what I do. :c00lbert:

Problem solved. I put in a ticket to my datacenter but they couldn't find a problem.. Turns out, they left the web-based interface for my 3ware RAID card installed so I did a little snoopin. :smug:
Before:

After:
[img_thumb]http://ahb.me/1K2E[/img_thumb]
I ended up discovering that the write cache was disabled. This is basically what caches all the write operations on the harddrive to allow the computer to do other shit. That was disabled, so once the MC servers started writing all it's tiny ass 4kb files all over the place it just froze up the harddrive. The minecraft servers are now faster than they've ever been, even when they weren't lagspiking while this was still an issue. Only took 4 fuckin days :gonk:
I'm just happy this is over with and our reputation isn't terribly tarnished from this hardware failure... and the fact that minecraft servers can run on 256mb :smug:

I think I replaced like, some 100,000 blocks in about a second?

A testament to the aged old myth about the RAM being the biggest factor given light.
I'm not sure if I've worded that right.

:iiam:
RAM is still somewhat of an issue but it's not what lags a server. If your server doesn't have enough RAM, it just outright crashes. That being said, the only way that I've been able to crash a server due to not having enough RAM was when I replaced over 200,000 blocks at once.
There, have your video:

Server is fast as hell. :buddy:
That settles it. I am planning on migrating after my current host payment expires. Just one question though, you already sort of answered it, but what's the biggest server you are hosting (as far as simultaneous players connected).

Dunno, one of the servers had like 8 players when I was in it, probably not that many at the moment. Later today might be a good bet though but I probably won't be here to tell you what server is filled up :v:
I tried moving over a friends map to the server and restarting the server to confirm the changes to server.properties and load the new map. Only one thing, though. The Stop or Restart buttons don't do anything. I went in-game and I could connect to the server even when it was supposedly down.
I would've asked for live help but it was offline. blah i need sleep right now. will deal with this later unless you guys can restart it manually. name is JOHNYE
