I made my first working semi-space station! :D Getting into space! [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/71368030/Pictoors/screenshot2.png[/t] Time to release! [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/71368030/Pictoors/screenshot4.png[/t] In orbit, and sitting for about a minute or two [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/71368030/Pictoors/screenshot5.png[/t] Time to go down [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/71368030/Pictoors/screenshot6.png[/t] The booster rocket debris that brought the kerbals up into space [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/71368030/Pictoors/screenshot7.png[/t] Almost home [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/71368030/Pictoors/screenshot8.png[/t] Parachutes deployed [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/71368030/Pictoors/screenshot9.png[/t] Almost touchdown [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/71368030/Pictoors/screenshot11.png[/t] Touchdown! And a successful mission :D [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/71368030/Pictoors/screenshot12.png[/t] Thoughts? I can't make any large space stations because they are too heavy :c
Wow you guys sure are lucky actually having a space program Australia could launch a fucking shitload of rockets from our desert but nooooooo we gotta dick about and BE A FUCKING USELESS COUNTRY.
It's mainly because our federal government is short-sighted. We had a space program in the 50's run by the CSIRO but it was canned. We did however have an astronaut in space IIRC on one of the shuttle missions. Another big problem with it is only WA can afford it and we are too busy with mining projects to properly manage a space program. On the plus side it's a possibility we will get one in the not too distant future on the account of the big mining companies looking to put money into high tech industry in Australia (WA), that combined with the square kilometre array or should I say the 1/2 kilometre array there will be a renewed focus on Australia for premier space research and could lead to space program like stuff. But at the end of the day I would probably prefer the NBN over a space program mostly due to how terrible the internet is in Australia the second you leave a state capital or other major city, IE where I live. It would be great to have a space program but it might be a cut above our budget, at least for the time being.
What can I do to get this thing to space? [t]http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/4603/screenshot6jr.png[/t] It keeps rotating even with asas and way too many RCS thrusters. Also, how do I stop the RCS thrusters from draining certain tanks? And if that's not possible, is it possible to make them drain certain tanks before others? I actually got it to space with just that setup, but no orbit. More rockets required :D

Uh nevermind this, I though Australia was further south than it really is.
Is it true that mechanics for warp drives are already in the code? Because I read something saying that.
Hi again. Here are news: I'm continuing on with the EVA control system here. The EVA controller code is already shaping up to be about as large as the largest bits of code in the game, like the Part controller itself, or the ship construction logic controller. We're making good steady progress, but the amount of work is simply enormous. I'm feeling good about it though. Coding character control is a lot of fun, and it's an area of the game that's been waiting to get added for so long, it feels very right to be adding it, and it's put a lot of things in perspective. It's a really interesting experience. On more specific news, I started work yesterday on the ladder-climbing system. Currently, there isn't very much of it at all, but it's good to be finally starting work on it. The ladder climbing logic is the last big addition to the character control code, before we can say that Kerbals are able to do everything we want them to do for basic EVA. Mind though, that having the full control logic implemented doesn't mean that we're anywhere close to being done. I expect no less than a full week of simply polishing up the thing, correcting a few animations, tweaking the FSM design, and anything that we might find that needs attention. The ladder logic is hopefully straightforward: Basically if you approach a ladder object, you'll get the option to grab it. Once ladders are acquired, you can climb or descend, or you can push yourself off away from it. You can also land, if the ladder extends to the ground, or 'summit' it. The big challenge though, is that ladders aren't single objects. They are ladder sections, which can be arranged in several configurations. That makes things a bit more complicated, because as you move along a ladder, we need to detect other ladders in your immediate area, figure out which ones you should be using, and smoothly transitioning the character from one to the other. After that, comes actually integrating EVAs with the rest of the game. That part is fortunately already half-way done, in the sense that spawning a Kerbal EVA is already possible, as seen above, and it is possible already to control a kerbal in EVA on the main flight scene. What I mean with integrating is that we need to make this into a proper game feature. That is, the game needs to be aware of the crew going in and out of ships, we need to add UI systems to let you take a crewmember out on EVA, the EVAPack needs to have a fuel system, Kerbals need to be able to splat down if they crash too fast, and probably a lot of other such things that I'm forgetting right now. Considering all the planned features, EVAs are pretty much an entire new game unto itself. A game within a game if you will. We're hoping it will be very well worth the effort though. Even in its crude unfinished form, we here are already starting to see just how much this will change the game experience. Cheers
I'm actually a bit more excited about IVA's or whatever they're called inside the vessel. Any news about being able to move your crew out their pod to for example a habitat module?
I wonder if the IVA's will work properly with simulated gravity. [editline]19th June 2012[/editline] Or just G-forces in general.
Simulated IVA's would be a dream come true but I have a feeling it's just gonna be a virtual cockpit like Orbiter or FSX.
That Draco thruster is amazing.
Simulated IVA's would be a dream come true but I have a feeling it's just gonna be a virtual cockpit like Orbiter or FSX.
I wouldn't bet on Squad not coming up with something amazing there.

I need the kerbins to get of their lazy asses and fix that shit [editline]19th June 2012[/editline] Also why does the altimeter read 1590 meters when I am on the surface?

It's doomed many landings.
Also why does the altimeter read 1590 meters when I am on the surface?
It's distance to the base level where all the mountains start from. (I'm not sure if any area actually goes that low, it's basically 200km from the center of Mun.

Besides, there's no atmospheric pressure. How on Kerth would you be able to get an altitude above sea level
From the fanart thread on their forums
I really wish they add mars, or just some other planet that's pretty far away. What I really want though is a campaign, where you have to work your way up to get money and new parts. That way making nice, efficient, reusable ships would be very important. I think it would be fun. [editline]20th June 2012[/editline] Also I'm sending a lander to the sun right now
You truly are an innovator
I still wonder how you guys make great space stations without problems :v
:(
I was being serious! You are an inspiration to us all [editline]20th June 2012[/editline]
I still wonder how you guys make great space stations without problems :v
More thrust, more struts
First orbital rendezvous!
I still haven't even attempted a rendezvous because it seems really hard to me
I still haven't even attempted a rendezvous because it seems really hard to me
Its only hard if you don't try.
I just landed my first rover on the mun. [t]http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/6238/screenshot8t.png[/t] After the picture was taken, I proceeded to blast the landing craft with the laser.
I landed a second rover with a similar craft, met up with the first rover and followed it around a bit, it was driving down a hill. [editline]20th June 2012[/editline] And my first rover just decided to shoot off of the surface of the mun, outside mun orbit and outside kerbin orbit. Only time will bring back the kerbals who flew off into space with no engines, as they blew off when the rover propelled it self into the sky.
I havent been to space since the last big update. Fuck space. I have PLANES! I just realised that's a lie. I've made one satellite.

I think it should be a seperate "radar alitimeter" part, that when attached, allows you to toggle the altimeter from the current one, to a "true" one.
