How about a pad that holds the rocket down and gives you info about thrust and weight. (And more maybe)
That would be useful when we get a campaign and need to save money.
MechJeb already tells you the weight, and you can add it up.
Thrust you can easily calculate based on which engines do you have running.
got my first space plane to cruise out into space:

here it is without the stages:

I can imagine an Automation style engine designer for the campaign.

Would be good to have visual cues for center of mass and thrust for VAB as well as center of lift in the space plane hangar.
Still getting the "Could not apply patch" error.

I don't know if this will help but when I tried and it failed, the folder it was in was called "KSP". I changed it to "KSP_win", which is what it is when you extract it from the rar, and then it worked.
Ok, another update now:
I think the ladder control system is about as good as it needs to be for now, although if given the chance, I'd still do some more improvements to it... For now though, there are more pressing things in need of doing.
More specifically, the next step is to have the Kerbals enter and leave crew-accessible parts. This will be the final step in integration, after which we will have pretty much all the basic features covered, and we can then move on to finishing them up.
Up until now, I've been moving forward as quickly as possible, to get all the essentials done. That meant I've been leaving behind a trail of unfinished issues... some even possibly gamebreaking ones, for the sake of being "scope-complete" with the EVA control system.
I must make clear the distinction between "scope-complete" and "done": Scope-complete means everything that needs to get done is getting done, in some way or another. That means in this case that Kerbals are able to walk, run, strafe, jump, float, land, swim, use the EVAPack maneuvering system and also use ladders. What it doesn't mean is that they do any of those things with any standard of quality.
To get from scope-complete to "done", or rather, "feature-complete", we still need to add a lot of stuff. There are animation cycles to correct, visual effects to add, GUI systems to implement, key bindings to create, the list goes on, and from there to "done" there is all the bug-fixing still, so quite a long way to go yet.
But, back to 'today' here, the next order of business is to get the Kerbals to board and disembark from other parts. That means we destroy the EVA object, add the abstract representation of the crewmember to the boarded ship, switch focus to it, and let it spawn an IVA kerbal in its internal space. We'd do the same in reverse to get them out I suppose... here's hoping it really is that simple.
More news as they come.
Cheers

hey Harv! you and the guys have been making leaps and bounds with this update, im really happy I invested in this game when i did. although i do have a question,
with all the work that has been goin on in EVA's are you guys gonna drop IVA's until the next patch? the reason i ask is that your on this dev cycle thing you guys have goin on, and according the the 0.16 update thread you posted IVA's havent even been touched yet (well at least according the to confidence level anyways).
i really wouldnt mind if you did, and i dnt think anyone else would either given that EVA's are already opening up a whole new aspect to the game that we never had before
Interesting that this question should be asked now. We are having this very discussion here today.
IVAs are a lot of work, and so far, while we have done some progress, we haven't started implementation yet on them. All our progress on IVAs this far has been with asset creation, which really is a mammoth task, and I wouldn't at all be surprised if we had to push implementation back to another update.
It wouldn't be too much of an issue I think, though. Not with EVAs getting added... And even then, the internal space assets would still be visible in flight through the crew portraits, so at a bare minimum, IVAs can be in the game already.
Right now, our main concern is solving some very important issues we've been struggling with since the last update. I want to get those issues out of the way as quickly as possible now, because these matters affect the implementation of the features we're working on, and we need to solve them now, even if it means having to stop everything else to deal with it.
It's likely there will be some tough decisions ahead.... Here's hoping we find a good solution soon.
Cheers
Is there any way to get rid of the debris littered around my KSC?

EDIT: Sorry, google chrome doesn't work for me with facepunch. I can't rate people and half the time I try to log in, it fails. If I post something it's blank. This happening to anyone else? I've tried deleting cookies.
Anyways, what I meant to say was:
"Yeah, the simplest way is to change focus to the debris then use "End Flight" in the esc menu"
Are there any docking parts that work pretty well?
Huh, this hasn't been posted yet here?
Sorry for the long wait between blog updates. The truth is, I have a confession to make.

I've been doing more than just particles. All stock parts (not spaceplane parts, of course) are undergoing a makeover, both in balance and looks.
Also, there's going to be a change in how engines work. There's a new module, LiquidFuelEngine, which, instead of a direct consumption value, works off of a given Specific Impulse (Isp) value, and calculates a consumption based on it. Right now, it assumes a constant density for fuel of 1 mass unit to 200 fuel units, but when the resource system is implemented it will take the density from whatever fuel that tank is assigned to use. As such, the old liquid engine module is now deprecated.
I've not yet completed the full part roster, but here's the replacements so far (+2 new parts):

Good, because the current stock parts look like ass, especially the plane parts.
Holy shit

Well. Textures are ok. They appear to have a seam on the side facing the camera. Small engine is meh, larger one seems fine but I would like a closer image. Landing legs are cool. These new parts are definitely a much welcomed improvement. Not sure what those boob-looking things are though they look kinda dumb.
The new fuel system sounds pretty cool.

Ugh, this is why I don't like mod parts. Those textures look far too realistic for this game and don't fit the kerbal style.

About that...
All stock parts (not spaceplane parts, of course) are undergoing a makeover
Words can not even describe how excited I am for this update.
.16 is a completely new game
Is there any idea when it will be out?
I hope there will be more stock parts, I like making things out of only stock parts.
hmm. those are alright... he really should have used normal maps more... I mean he coud have made them so much better :/ but far far better than the stock parts :D
also.

also, purteo rico and texas are fighting for who gets the new space X launch pad.

Can't read shit.
About that...
Well, here's hoping for better textures for the space planes.
I don't really have many complaints except for the cockpits, because they're pretty ugly.
I made it to the Mun with enough fuel to land then I pressed fast forward so I didn't have to wait half an hour for my craft to reach the damn thing, I held it a little too long and ended on 10 000x at 600 m/s heading to the surface.
This game hates me but it's so fucking fun.
I wonder if Squad's next game will be Kerbal Brain Surgery
Are those stock fairings I see? O:
Today I learned that planes can also work as boats
can someone explain what nova means about engines...

What would happen if you place that guy under the engine and ignite it :v:

There's a feature I forgot about! An animation for burning up in the atmosphere, falling into the engine plume (because someone's gonna eventually) and burning up in the sun.
[sp]If they ever do put one in, Jeb needs his sunglasses.[/sp]
