Hi guys, I want you to know our Mechanics that help with the construction. As you can see in their faces, they enjoy their work.
One year... The first time I saw KSP was in the general ingame media thread where someone posted a few screenshots of it. It looked damn interesting. I asked what the name of the game was and proceeded to download it as soon as possible. I then played for a few hours, and fell in love with it immediately. Then I said in the same thread that we needed a KSP thread (because more people had downloaded KSP by now and were posting screenshots in the media thread, meaning even more people were getting interested), but it seemed no-one was going to make one so I asked if I should make a thread myself, got rated agree, and so I did. It was my first to be megathread, or long-lasting thread ever. And oh boy, after I made that thread KSP took FP by storm fast. Nowadays it's just a small group of people that regularly post here (excluding me, I just lurk).

Wait what, why am I dumb for that? I was just trying to share with you how and why the first thread came to be. I did not mean in any way to brag about how I made a thread that became popular. I'm sorry if it sounded like that but that was in no way my intention. And never have I felt that the only reason KSP became popular on FP was because of me, someone else would have made the thread, I just did because no-one else had. [editline]a[/editline] Oh why couldn't this post be on the previous page, every page king should be about something fun.
After a full Sunday of testing I now have a spacecraft that is capable of placing a Kerbal on the surface of Minimus, then launching and landing on the Mun, and then returning him back to Kerbil safely. I lauched ten crews, one right after another, and sent them all on an orbit to Minimus. Crew 7 had a *cough* malfuction (I blame the wife) 30 seconds into launch. Thier ashes have been scattared over the sea. (32 seconds after launch) Crew 5 overshot Minimus by... a lot. Left the burn on for just one extra second and wow did that Appogee go out there! To save fuel I dicided to wait until they were further out. And in so doing pointed the wrong way and Accellerated further away. Their next interset with Kerbil is in 735 days. Crew 2 disappeard from my scopes. No idea what happened to them. Flying 10 missions at once is dangerous because I don't multi task well. The rest have made landing on Minimus. I plan to lift off one at a time and make landing on the Mun. Screen shots to follow when one of those crews makes the Mun and then splashdown.
Tonight I went through, flipped the normal map green channels and re-exported all the mbm files with the new texture settings. The improvement is pretty drastic indeed. Crystal clear textures up close now. I'll be spending the next few days finishing up the pod textures this weekend. I'll post the results when they're done .
plane normals
Thank god, that looks much better. Great that C7 found the issue of weird normal maps (and shadows)
Working on stress testing the parts to find anything I've missed balancewise... [t]http://i.imgur.com/agq0T.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/P0043.jpg[/t] Also, here's a before and after shot of the texture compression fix that C7 found: [t]http://i.imgur.com/50kpG.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/QOFBv.png[/t]
Those radial liquid engines look like elongated boobs. They even have nipples.
That's struts, not nipples :L
Those radial liquid engines look like elongated boobs. They even have nipples.
Robbaz is gonna have a field day.

Sweet. [editline]6th July 2012[/editline] Also: Do the textures on all the new objects (C7 flight textures included) look off to any of you? To me, they look much too crisp and pristine. There's no... texture to it. No noise in the background; as in scratches, scuffs and blemishes... to give them more of that "lightly used" look. (Rough and sturdy).
I have a noob question, what is the pink crosshair on the flight compass?
I have a noob question, what is the pink crosshair on the flight compass?
It's supposed to point towards the space center, but I think it's wonky and doesn't always do. I haven't checked because I rarely look at it.
It point towards a space center
Fixed

Finally after days of trial and error I've got a jet plane that can cross the ocean. The flight took over 30 minutes and the plane is really stable but I mucked up the landing as once the speed drops too much the plane falls to the ground like a maple leaf and I lose all control. All the debris in the ocean are failed versions. I'll be really happy if I eventually make a jet that can fly me to the north pole and land.
He said they were just the barebones textures at the moment, he hasnt finished them yet to add a proper texture to them, i think thats what he said, there was a quite a page or two back
I think they need to implement a date system to go along with the mission timer. That way you could time the orbits of each future planet with the dates and have specific launch times to intercept a planet like they do in real life. [editline]6th July 2012[/editline] You would also be able to launch near powerless things into space and have them intercept an object at a predetermined time like they do with all the rovers and probes. You wouldn't have to baby sit it making sure it goes along it's path and makes corrections.
Dammmn, I didn't know engine bodies and intakes don't work. I'd imagine it be a lot easier to get proper jets and turbojets going once they finally fix that. In the meanwhile, I made a couple changes and strapped on some turbojets, surprisingly the turbojets haven't changed the handling of the plane at all. I went almost twice as far this time and I managed to land. Has anyone ever made a plane that circled the earth and landed back on the runway? Not multi-stage, literally a plane that takes off and lands. This sounds like I challenge I want to undertake.
My first rendezvous where I actually knew what I was doing: Then I took it a step further with a rendezvous around the Mun. I'm ready for docking!
whoa look at that Durgun being used :D
So is it pretty much impossible to fly a plane without an ADVSAS system?
So is it pretty much impossible to fly a plane without an ADVSAS system?
It's very possible
whoa look at that Durgun being used :D
it would be awesome if you updated the durgen's solar panels to not fuck up when you rotate the craft while the panels are deployed
whoa look at that Durgun being used :D
The Failcan drinks RCS like Gatorade. It is nice though, I like the retro thrusters.
