I always make rockets with too much fuel. I make it to the mun and minmus just fine, but always with less than I thought I needed.
am I the only one who thought this? sudden urge to make freelancer parts :v:
Oh hey I remember making that picture. Maybe I should try and import the Defender into KSP. Hm... I'd have to split it up into different parts so you could assemble it correctly. It'd need the cockpit, then the wings can be functional. The body a single fuel tank, and then the two engine ports in back for the thrust. Not sure how to handle RCS, or if I should just use cockpit/capsule SAS instead. My shuttle crashed on the opposite side of the planet as the launch center. I built another plane, flew there picked up my downed kerbals and flew them back to the launch center, then my landing gear snapped causing the plane to spin off the runway and explode. All 6 Kerbals died. Feels bad man.

[editline]28th July 2012[/editline] Boy will THAT be a good mod once they ad IVAs :v:
My newest rocket fails exactly 1 minute and 12 seconds into the flight each and every time. Other than that, it works great! I have to throttle down for a few seconds I think. [editline]29th July 2012[/editline] Throttle down worked! But I believe it was the parachutes attached to the SRB's that caused the failure. So much for recycling.

[thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12876495/KSP%202012-07-29%2009-53-51-472.png[/thumb] tiny design flaw... I had to blow my engine up to land.
Made it to the Mun on my first try, with my first rocket design. I came in really hot, manually (never really tried MechJeb or other programs), and ran out of fuel about 1000m above the surface on the Mun. Luckily, I had bled of *just* enough speed before touching down... So now Bob is stranded and awaiting rescue... I still got it!~ ;D
Why do you have these awesome shadows? This is how it looks on highest settings on my machine.

I need a munbase now.
[t]http://www.manhack-arcade.net/Content_Pack/itstooheavy.jpg[/t] I need more lift!

I tend to make pretty large rockets. I've taken to using what I call disposable scaffolding to hold it together during ascent. Wings or some other light structural piece are attached by radial decouplers, one set of four low on the rocket and another set higher up, then the lower wings are joined to the corresponding upper wing via struts. Works pretty darn well and looks pretty impressive when it comes to decouple
I can't wait for cockpit view and I Hope the game begins to take more advantage of lighting and different perspectives because getting the scale of things like this: Makes the game much cooler
Would be cool if you could assign a hotkey to a certain stage. For example an escape tower, so if something went wrong you just press the hotkey and it fires off.
Nova just posted that, anybody know where it is? If not it's of utmost importance to find it. I think that, just as the Mun arch was a test of concave meshes in the terrain, "Magic Boulder" is a test of collisions with the terrain scatters. It's just speculation though.

I think he's hinting pretty strongly at an easter egg. In all honesty I wouldn't be surprised if he's trolling, he has done that exact thing before (made fake easter eggs).
Is there any way to switch a command module without losing the rest of the craft? EDIT never-mind, you can edit the parts in the .CRAFT files
Lost a kerbal in orbit last night with no fuel in the EVA, literally a foot away from his ship. Mounted a rescue mission today using a bunch of landing legs as a claw. Got into orbit, got really close, realised I had no RCS thrusters on my uppermost stage. So I had to do it all with only the rockets. Nearly there Decided to try using my rescue Kerba's EVA. Nearly nailed it from inside my rescue rocket But then I realised that the claw gaps in the claw were too big to hold the Kerbal. And also that I had no ladders on my rescue ship, so even if I got this stranded Kerbal up close to the ship for long enough to switch out and control him instead, I wouldn't have any opportunity to get him to hold on to anything.
Read through this thread: http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/index.php?topic=12601.0
Hnnnggh, it looks so sexy now. Thanks!
Bob Kerman, first kerman to successfully land using a landing stage from a sub-orbital trajectory. All vanilla parts, with the exception of mechjeb. Funnily enough, I was watching Kurt fly to the pole in his jet as I did this, and managed to beat him, despite starting some 30 minutes after him. Goes to show how much faster rockets are.

I'm back, guys. I'm working on getting the Kosmos thread up and running again on KSP.
GENTLEMEN, BEHOLD!! THE FALCON! [editline].[/editline] mfw this is actually a viable design
With MechJeb you don't even need to fly the rocket :P What fun things do you do when the game plays itself ?
With MechJeb you don't even need to fly the rocket :P What fun things do you do when the game plays itself ?
I only use Mechjeb for tricky things that I find hard to do, like circularising an orbit and landing. Everything else I do fine. Also, does anyone know how big Kerbin, the Mun or Minmus are in terms of diameter?
